Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii an eshop download for Wii U £17.99 @ Nintendo

O yes this has just arrived unexpectedly on the Wii U eshop for £17.99 for those of you not aware this game sells for way more to obtain a physical copy and is easily one of the best games of its type and best games on the Wii .
Also If you pick it up for the usual Wii download price of €19.99 / £17.99, you're eligible to receive £9 off the eShop version of Xenoblade Chronicles X when it launches in December, too.

You can use your Wii U gamepad as a controller and for Off TV Play, just like any other Wii U game with the absence of touchscreen controls.

just spotted this on a few sites they seem to be detailing very poorly so not made it obvious that it's available on the wiiu

I assume you won't be able to use the Wii u game pad controls and have to use the wiimote still?

Na, you can use the gamepad

Good news. Do we know if a saved game from the original wii version works?

reeking of awesome

no wii u controller p

never did play this.. but so many games to play X)

Probably the best game from last gen, easily the best JRPG. More than worth £18.

At last finally the ridiculous prices on ebay will subside! Not good news for the eBay sellers these were going for £50+!
Same thing happened to marvel vs capcom few years ago was a limited print and going for ridiculous money and then digital version released and overnight they lost substantial value!

Just checked eBay still Listings ranging from £50-100! These sellers are in for a suprise once everyone realises. Strange thing is did Nintendo announced this? Never would have guessed there was a lot of speculation but Nintendo didn't comment from what I know?!

Great game, heat added, though have it on the 3DS, so will give it a miss

Still got my special edition at home. Only played it once but good price.

I guess nintendo aren't doing the £8.99 / £12.99 deals anymore like with metroid trilogy

Can't wait for Nintendo's next console so they can release all old games for that too.

Looks like my retail copy (excellent condition) just lost pounds and pounds of its value. Oh well. I actually prefer (believe it or not) games find their way into the hands of the gamers, not the scalpers.

Excellent stuff, have been wanting to play this for an age.
It may have to wait until I clear out the backlog a bit though.....

Not very pleasant to look at on the TV but actually lends itself well to the gamepad resolution.

The same with PS4 and Xbone to be fair! Pitiful choice of games for next gen really, although alot announced for the future. At least with Nintendo the handful of games that are out are stellar!

No, Nintendo hadn't mooted this release before.

Re: eBay prices, it is possible to get a physical copy more cheaply but you do have to shop around. I bought mine for £28 a couple of years ago and a friend recently picked one for £30. As I say, you do have to shop around and this eShop is a darn sight cheaper and easier but I'm doubtful how many people were willing to stump up the kind of prices that most sellers were wanting - on auctions, the final price was invariably lower.

Not all Wii games, just downloadable ones which were classic controller-compatible, so this game and a few others.

Not really. Physical >>>>> digital copy, so it's not really a loss. A physical reprint would be a loss.

At least this way more people can play the game.

Bought instantly when i saw this cant remember the last time i switch the Wii U on.

So you can't use the gamepad to control the game itself only as a display device? I still have a Wii Pro controller than I can use through the remote, the idea of playing this with the remote and chuck sounds pretty wrist straining!

Argh! Wish I hadn't bought it on the 3DS now! A sprawling RPG like this is way better on the big screen. Don't think I can justify this when I have it on 3DS and I'll probably lose money selling the 3DS version. There is the £9 discount on the Wii U one, but this is Nintendo and their eShop price for it is sure to be inflated.....

Tempting though, and heated as it is a great price for a quality game like this.

You can use the gamepad like any other Wii U game aside from lack of touch controls. So you can control it and play on your TV or on the gamepad screen.

Not to mention the HUGE amount of space it will take up if the Japanese one is anything to by.

Ah that's good, I've only bought Galaxy 2 and Prime Trilogy and I don't think either ever supported a non wii remote option so I hadn't tried, thanks!

True, still holding off on getting a PS4 or Xbox1 here.

Holy mother ! I need this game now!!!!! So can I play on my wii u???

So can we use the wii u game pad or not?? Not gonna buy if not..

Bought this for Wii on release and only ever played it using Dolphin, amazing game though!

sold my physical copy for £90 bones . can download this fatty now

Do you guys think it's worth getting if I'm getting X and don't have much time? I'm not a huge RPG fan, like Fallout 3 I did the main quests but no side quests, and Witcher 1 I thought was not great due to clunky mechanics and constant running around. KOTOR I enjoyed, though.

Fingers crossed my physical copy doesn't devalue due to this digital release. Such an awesome game that was woefully under-printed.

Hold up, can I play without the Wii controller and use the Gamepad to play the game fully?

Bit of extra info:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d9/Xenoblade_box_artwork.png

Nintendo and Monolith Soft’s Xenoblade Chronicles may ultimately have been highly successful, but it also had a very limited audience that it was selling to. A lot of this has to do with the fact that it got a very limited release on the Wii in 2011-12, when software sales for the system had all but died down; the re-release on Nintendo 3DS that ultimately came earlier this year was only for the New Nintendo 3DS systems, which also automatically limited its audience.
But now the game gets another crack at reaching out to a wide audience- it will be coming to the Nintendo eShop on Wii U in Europe, launching for £17.99. Since the game was also compatible with Classic Controller and Classic Controller Pro on the Wii, you can play it using the Wii U Gamepad, without having to tether up a Wiimote and Nunchuk to the system.
That’s not all, either-

Those who purchase this game will be eligible for a £9.00 GBP discount on Xenoblade Chronicles X if they buy it on Nintendo eShop within two weeks of the game’s launch in December.

Take a deep breath, Monolith Soft fans, as today has exciting news in Europe. Following up on previous news that Xenoblade Chronicles X will be playable at Gamescom in Germany, now more exciting news has been revealed.
First of all, it's been confirmed that there'll be a Wii U hardware bundle and special edition in Europe; these are detailed below.
Xenoblade Chronicles X Wii U Premium Pack: features a black premium Wii U console, a physical copy of the game, an Artbook and a World Map poster
Xenoblade Chronicles X Limited Edition Pack: features a physical copy of the game, a SteelBook™ cover, a World Map poster, a Cover Art Poster and the Artbook
