Well I think XFX are a solid brand and good build quality, however the warranty being 1 year and others being 2 years. If it was the same price I'd obviously go for the longer warranty. But it's £216 vs £260+ and more games for free so XFX wins it for me.

Don't forget top cash back 2.02% or something
The Sapphire is the better card, better cooler, warranty etc.

Better warranty yes. Better cooler? Why, by how much and a link to review stating that its better than the XFX cooler?

And it's £50 more and less games. Not worth it to me plus XFX build quality is much better than sapphire card.
Glad someones posted this as am in the market for one of these, and have being umming and ahhing about it recently.

Guys this is gonna be a stupid question, but i've been out of the PC loop for quite a while, so am not that well up to date. I recently got bitten by the WoW : MOP bug and loving it, but my old 6870, which is paired along side an i7 950, is starting to show it's age. If I got this, would I get a far better experience? I know it's a superior graphics card, but wanna just check beforehand.

And also how hard of a swap would it be? Between the 6870 and this? I swapped HDD's around before, but not GPU.

Thanks.

P.S Wouldn't just be for WOW. Am sad but not that far gone yet :P

Edit: heat added.

Gandalf. Just google 6870 vs 7950 and also search on YouTube. I'm on the train home so can't really look in to it enough for you here. But that i7 isn't being allowed to breath with that 6870. I'd say for £216 with all the games you can't beat this deal plus just put your 6870 on eBay and it'll help towards this
anandtech.com/ben…550

It's about 60-70% improvement according to the above specs. In terms of replacing a GPU, I'd say its pretty easy. Open the case, unplug the power connector(from the PSU to the GPU), unscrew the GPU from the expansion ports, and then unclip it from the motherboard. Then the same in reverse to install it. I think that's everything.

Just make sure to check you have enough power connectors on your power supply. I think the 6870's use 2 6-pin's, and the 7950's are the same I believe.
This card is a 6 & 8 pin
Whats better this or a Nvidia 670 OC ?
Hi,

I currently have this PSU tomshardware.com/rev…tml (a Thermaltake PurePower TWV500W) with a 5770 in. Will the PSU be able to handle a 7950, and if so does it have all the right connections?

Currently looking to upgrade but not really too knowledgeable about this stuff and don't want to buy only to run into problems later.

The sapphire is £237.99 on amazon, doesn't mention anything about the games, so if it doesn't come with them then the xfx deal is better. There is no direct comparison between the sapphire and xfx, I've heard the XFX cooler is loud.

Superb guys, good to know. Thanks for the info about the pins too. Was gonna be next question lol.
Would this be better than the NVIDIA GFX 660 (non ti)?

Also I have a VGA LCD monitor and noticed this only comes with a HDMI to DVI adapter. How would I go about this?

Thanks guys.
Yes this is much better than the GTX 660 (it's actually better than the Ti variant too, particularly when you overclock).

At this price with these games it's a fantastic offer.
tomshardware
there are better cards out there i like the HIS HD 7950 IceQ Turbo ive seen this for around £220

These drivers have made the GTX 680 the most annoying thing I've ever purchased.

- Paid over the odds to get one
- 670 is released
- AMD 'miracle' drivers released

Wish i'd just bought the 7950 I intended to buy in the first place.
MBeeching - Just sell it and get a 7950

Yes there are OC versions that are better but this is £216.97 delivered plus 2.02% cashback and more games for free. It is a great deal IMO and I can't find anything to beat it at the price even if you ignor the free games

This XFX card is not using a reference cooler and it performs very well. There is hardly any noise coming from it and compaired to my old 460gtx this is silent.

If you look for 7950 vs 660 they actually compare it to the Ti version so compared to the standard version GTX 660 the 7950 beats it up Then there is the price and the fact that all those games come free. Hitman was going to cost me £27 just for that one game.

As for the DVI to VGA... I do understand why you might have to do that but it is like buying a Sky HD box and plugging in a CRT TV, Yes you get a signal, yes it is clear but you arn't getting the full expirence that you paid for. I'm not saying you have to upgrade I'm just saying that they assume people buying this card have digital monitors.

World of Warcraft is a sad game- do not buy
XFX cards usually are cheaper than other brands. I've been looking at a lot of cards of late and settled on a Sapphire 7850. From all that I have read, XFX cards always seem to come out as the cards to avoid. This doesn't necessarily mean they are that bad, just all the advice I've read suggests to stay away from them and go for a Sapphire or AMD brand generally.

I believe their RMA service is appalling and you have to send things abroad to get them repaired/replaced. Just what I've read - not sure that is correct though.

Not a chance

It's quiet, can sustain 1200mhz and has 2.5yrs warranty left.
I'm just bitter that I went massively overbudget. No point losing even more money selling it.
Plus... I'm a PhysX **** now.

+1. I know it's mad that Nvidia haven't budged their prices since release but that does mean you should be able to sell your 680 for a fair bit to someone who 'only buys green' and pocket the difference.

Biggest problem with XFX is that RMA via the retailer only according to Nelly's sticky over at Hexus

As regards DVI>VGA, I'm fairly sure the card is actually capable of outputting analog so it's just a matter of buying one (Poundworld / Poundland / 99p store usually have them), ordering them of ebay, or asking someone since for years they came with cards and were not used.

Well I guess you could get it anyway take the games you want and flog the rest. either break even or take maybe £10 or so hit but if like me you was going to buy Hitman anyway and possibly Farcry it might work out? Every little helps
I'm sure the AMD evolved program has 3 free games +20% off MOH not 6. Unless have spare codes to give away for DiRT Showdown
Nexuiz and Dues Ex Human Revolution.

just email duncsdeals@dabs.com

680 is in a different class to the 7950 though.
Cracking price! Love my 7950
Hot! This is a great deal, but I can't find anyone who has managed to upgrade these to a 7950B with the ATI bios update. Has anyone managed to do this with one of these cards?

Why would you want to? The 7950B like the 7970GHz BIOS is a sledgehammer which cracks the OC nut by raising the voltage far too high. Basically AMD played it safe, because there might theoretically be some cards which need 1.25V to get to 1GHz - therefore that BIOS gives them all so high a voltage. Pretty crazy since tons (most?) 7950/7970 can run at 1000MHz with far lower voltages: plenty of people hitting 1GHz (which is generally not hard OC for the 7950) on voltages as low as 1.05V or so.

So manual overclocking is a far better idea than just dumping that brute force BIOS on the card.
is it worth replacing my 1gb hd6950 for this? i run 1 28" monitor with a 3930k i7 sandy bridge E processor, asus p9x79 and 16gb g. skill ripjaws Z ram. i play fifa, gta, diablo 3, halo, bf3, most racing and sports games. is it worth getting this or a gtx 670?

I've run the 3007WFP off DP. You need an active-adapter like the Bizlink, so it's powered from the usb. Honestly though, save yourself the hassle and just get a card with two DL-DVI ports. (I'm pretty shocked this calibre of card is shipping with a single-link, actually.)
Backwards comp with PCI 2.0?
Can only see that you claim four games, not six. Not that this is a deal breaker of course.

Well if you look at the listing you will see that it is part of 2 offers as per below

Offer 1: Hitman, Farcry and Sleeping Dogs. Plus 20% off MoH

And

Offer 2: DiRT, Dues Ex and Nexuiz

That would be 6 plus one 20% off discount

Yes it is
Very nice! I need to upgrade my graphics soon..
Can anybody answer a quick question?

With these types of cards, what is the best connection cable to use for the best resolution? I'll be using a 32" HD ready Samsung screen (not full HD) which comes with HDMI connections (obviously!) and a PC in connection (15 pin - D Sub?). No DVI connection on it.

I haven't thought about this until now - would HDMI give full 1900+ resolution, or would the D-Sub be better (maybe using a DVI adapter cable?).

Any help would be much appreciated.
