This card is still fairly high-end, despite the slew of new cards from Nvidia / AMD (I still call them ATI!)

(note the min fps actually beats the 6970 , in this test anyway)

Good deal but, just a heads up, these cards are massive! May be worth checking you have room in your PC buying buying one **here speaks the voice of experience**

oO

Has anyone actually bought one? My experience with Dabs is that they never have any stock for these deals they have.

EDIT: On the Dabs site =

Don't worry, it's not you, it's us...
We’re carrying out a major system upgrade this weekend, so our website is temporarily unavailable.

How effing convenient...

Did you not read the original post ?

Anyone buying an XFX branded card should be made aware of their extremely poor customer service should they ever have a problem with the card.

I've read recently that some etailers have stopped selling their cards as XFX refused to honor European warranties and demand that the card be shipped back to Canada at the owners cost and it's hit and miss if you'll receive a working replacement any time soon after that.

Best to Google 'XFX European Warranty' first before you decide to buy!

Why not put that info in the title as I missed it also! If it's a phone only deal that's key information.

good deal if you can sell the games

Id buy this instantly if it wasn't xfx :(!

If it breaks a few months down the line, I don't fancy having a £160 paper weight, coz xfx ain't gonna replace it :/!

If this was Sapphire or EVGA then i'd be all over this, but I refuse to give XFX any more of my money.

Great price, poor brand.

Hmm fancy this but also thinking about the MSI 6950 (Flashable to 6970) on OcUK for £197, at the moment I'm using a GTX 460, even considering a GTX480.

Any recommendations?

I have GTX 480 from OCUK and I love it. I think that £200 for such a card is a very good price.
With my i5-760 can play any game on high details. Medal of honor 2010 with 32CSAA look like movie. All edges nice and sharp.
People where moaning regarding temperature on GTX 480 my never reached higher temp than 76 degrees in warm room when playing Metro 2033.
HD 6950 is also good card but no Physic-X so.....but if you can live without it then no problem.

xfx are awful dont waste your money

Paid £235 for my XXX 5850 exactly a year ago

Having said that, it's no slouch and I can probably skip this generation of cards.

Serious gamers should have a dedicated Physx card anyway, so the ATI not having it isn't a huge setback.

The 6870 is about 10-15% slower than the 5870. It does consume less power, produces less noise than the 5870.

I'm not one to ignore stupid comments (I know your point was supposed to be "hardly any games have Physx").

Non of the games I play on there but can you use an ati card for eyefinity and a cheap Physx card for the Physx bit?

Not a very good list...
The two I would quite like to play with hardware PhysX are Mirror's Edge and Arkham Asylum.

You used to be able to partner an ATI card with an Nvidia but they clamped down on it.

It can be done, with the right drivers ..

Obviousy my point is not relevant for those that don't play games with Physx support, but those who do would benefit from having a dedicated Physx card, even if their main GPU supports it.

And yes, you can combine Eyefinity + and Physx card. But as already mentioned, you need the right drivers.

this is available on the dabs website btw

would I be able to use my 460GTX as Physx card and my 6970 as the GPU?

I don't think I could give up my eyefinity for Physx though

gdwelsh

would I be able to use my 460GTX as Physx card and my 6970 as the GPU?

The 460 would be overkill for a Physx card, may as well sell it and buy a second hand lower end card (not exactly how low you can go, but would have thought the upper 8000/9000 cards would be sufficient).

leedale30

You don't have to, you can have both .
I have Eyefinity with Physx, but I have a dedicated Ageia Physx PPU, which isn't as good as using a decent Nvidia card, but it does the job and I don't have to mess around getting the right drivers.
Edited by: "jukkie" 28th Feb 2011

Whoa, I've not looked at buying a video card for a little while and I'm now completely lost in this thread. Can someone explain Physx and Eyefinity, or direct me to a layman's explanation. Not after too much tech so Googling didn't help.

Using a card for Physx and another for Eyefinity - huh?! oO

Ok thanks, i'll sell the GTX 460 then, thanks.
