Specifically designed for HDTV and HD video enthusiasts, ATI Avivo HD provides brilliant colors, sharp images, smooth playback of Blu-ray?* and HD video content, HDMI with built-in multi-channel digital audio, and on some GPUs, Unified Video Decoding (UVD). UVD is designed to enable a cool and quiet media PC with low CPU power requirements and playback of HD 1080p content. HD Monitor is required for full 1080p enjoyment. A system with an ATI Radeon? Sorry mate, I just happened upon this as I was browsing. It would've been a good first post too!

Good deal, but pity about the enormous power consumption of the card.

Welcome Criminal (didn't think I'll ever say that!)

If you can afford to spend £260 on a graphics card, you can afford a bigger case. Can't you? Just be sure your PSU is up to the job too.

don't forget quidco! 3%!

Yep, & all of £6.75 too

Not a bad deal by any stretch of the means, but its alll pittance difference now.

Reasons for low prices:

Hugely inefficient etc etc
new 40nm technology (4890),
GTX 295 is a lot better
Single PCB version of the GTX 295 is coming out in a few weeks.
Next generation ATi cards are rumoured for this summer. Specs look VERY impressive
Next generation nVidia cards rumoured some time this year. Again specs look floor wiping.

The 4890 is 55nm, just like the 4870. The only card with a 40nm GPU is the 4770.

Power consumption on this card is high, point taken.

The GTX 295 may be faster but it's also a lot more expensive, as in £100 more expensive at least and I doubt that the single PCB version would me much cheaper.

New cards are coming and they do look very impressive if the rumours are true but there's no guarantee when they'll be released. I doubt they'll be coming out this summer though.

Everyday I see a different graphics card on here, newer model with bigger number, honestly, people that upgrade everytime a new one is released, can you actually tell the difference? why not wait till the next insane graphics demanding game comes out then purchase one that plays good with that?

p.s. I want this card:-(

most people that buy this will need a new PSU to power this. cheap psu's will not cut it even if it's over 750W.

Perhaps not the best time to buy this card jus as summer is starting, bare in mind this card can easily run over 90C especially with a single fan version. which is why i think, unless you game over 1080p lcd/monitor it's better off settling for a single gpu card

Nevertheless this price is very good. hot.

Anyone got any links for these rumoured next gen cards?

How can £260 for a graphics card be a bargain?

You guys have too much money.

I want an entire PC for that amount!

HOT HOT HOT

I paid £400 for a card with a quarter of the power 4 years ago......

I bet this would eat Crysis for breakfast ! :-D

i have the single GPU version & it runs Crysis with everything on High settings, so this card should be able to easily handle everything set to Ultra

A bargain for some considering this is still over £300 everywhere else. I wouldn't buy one myself though, too rich for me! :-D

They will need a 64-bit OS too unless they want to be limited to 2GB of system memory.

you get what you pay for as is life!!

i have the power color 1GB version of this card and its off the scale as performance goes!!

you can chuck any game at it and max out every detail or resolution

yes it generates a lot of heat and i have an NZXT lexa blackline case with 6 fans which keeps the temp's down, but its made me sell off my ps3 as nothing competes with this card.

think im gonna sell my card and buy this while its on offer as its so hot my money has just randomly set on fire!!

heat and rep coming your way!! cheers!!

In response to crysis. This card runs it okay, but it does begin to struggle if you move to 1080p upwards (on ultra settings), this only applies if you use 16AF HQ and especially WITH any AA.
This is of course assuming you're running a quadcore overclocked.

quadcore overclocked?

have they patched it then as when it 1st came out and i checked occupancy settings, it was only really using 1 core.

visually impressive game VERY badly optimised

hot deal on the card but too inefficiant for me. heat added (tho not as much as the card produces i expect )

what i meant was this card coupled with an modern quadcore overclocked like the q6600 through to i7, will begin to struggle on ultra high settings from 1080p upwards (with AA and AF) , however it's still playable.

And i assume the majority of people looking to purchase this card wont be gaming at low resolutions.

Banned

yeah I would wait for the next gen cards, they will be DX11 chips.

Good price for a awesome card ...

Was going to go and pick one up but they have none in stock till tomorrow

whats the overlocking potential of this card? lol
