Hi there, was having a look around for a good card, this one seems a right bargain!! £104 in play at the moment, cheapest I can find it for is £102.

I know its 97p, but there seems to be lots of stock to buy on the website, or collect at store if you want to avoid the carriage.

I have reserved one for tomorrow. A must have and a nice card.

Bargain - I am running one of these and have been for 18 months. Plays most games happily at 1680x1050. Struggles on highest settings AAx4 etc for Far Cry 2 but that's to be expected.

swindon has loads of these in on the clearance table

i have an 8600GS and never fully use it (don't play pc games) so would be wasted on me

ugh not fanless

good 1
would this be ok to double up with a 8800gt
thanx

I would like to get a passive card for the living room PC, but does anyone know if this is a noisy fan? The XFX7600GT we're using right now can turn into a leaf blower and I'm looking for an upgrade, but for not much cash.

Thanks for this had to return a faulty 8600Gt to ebuyer. Realise its only gs but better than 8600gt i hope. Reserved in store but means nothing to pc world.

Owch.

I got a 8800GTS (note the T) ages ago for around £170, so this was highly dissappointing. Luckily this is only a 8800GS, but having said that, there is very little between them, and my GTS plays COD:WAW easily, so I see no reason to upgrade again currently.

£50 for this is a hell of a deal.

good luck finding a fanless former-top-end/middle gaming graphics card

Anyone know if this would work with my bog-standard Dell 5150, XP, 3Gb Ram, 3GHz pls?? It's got a 350W PSU I think. Thanks!
(currently got 6600 GT TDH winfast 128 MGb)

Will this card help run Windows Vista and Adobe Premiere Elements any better? Currently using on board graphics on my motherboard but processing videos is painstakingly slow

]You were saying?... Oh and with an Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 Rev 2 or Thermalright HR-03 and decent case cooling you can make any 8800GT (using this example since I'm going to replace the cooler on mine) run happily and passively.

This will be a MASSIVE improvement to using on-board graphics module.

Hi guys, I have one of these and it is a fine card and great for folding. I get around 3300 points per day on it. It needs a hefty power supply to run it, (700W recommended) and you will need a 6 pin PCI express to molex converter which is supplied usually with the PSU if you buy it new. check your PSU, if it has 22 amps on the 12 volt rail you should be fine, funnily enough none of this is mentioned on the PC world website!!! 350 W is nowhere near enough I am afraid, even if you buy a "6 pin molex converter" from ebay for a couple of pounds, it probably wouldn't even get to post. I have made a couple of dozen pc's for freinds and family, and going cheap on the PSU usually ends in disappointment. Cheers Ash

Good Point about the the PSU.

Would this be better then my Radeon HD3650?

nice find, I've been looking for a new gaming card, its not the best, but for this price, Its hard to resist! I'm running a 7900gs at the mo, but this 8800gs is a much more powerful card, and it seems a genuine bargain! Ordered one to collect in my local store! Many thanks, heat and rep added.

yes, but the power is something to keep in mind though.

i think this would be fine on a 350w power supply.

Is this much better than my current ATI X1950 Pro 256MB.

For anyone wanting to know if their current PSU will power this card, stick your details in here - web.aanet.com.au/Sno…php The GS isn't listed, so pick a GT instead, as they're basically the same card.

Anyone with a generic 350/400w PSU, I wouldn't recommend trying it, as cheap PSU's never output the amperage they say they can. On the other hand, anyone with a branded PSU of the same wattage should be fine, i.e. Enermax, Akasa, Corsair, etc, just be sure to check your 12v amps as already pointed out by acarden.

looks like a good deal
hot

cheers reserved one for store pick up

this looks a good deal but I am going to stay with my current card.

thanks for the reply.

I have a Delta DPS-300a (300w max, 17a @ 12v)

The above site says I need 19a / 225w to run it...

. Any chance of this working? Also, this PSU does not have any molex connectors, but I am struggling to find any of the SATA, newer power connectors to PCI-E cables.

Reserved, my last serious graphics card was a nVidia TNT 32mb AGP back in the days! Not a big PC gamer but for 50 quid... :w00t:

Can you put normal graphcis cards in laptops?
For example could I use this card to upgrade my Sony Vaio NS 10 L/S?

I don't think so - this will be way too big

Great card for a very little price, hot deal!

No.

Good deal - for information these cards are now called 9600GSO 384Mb, which sell for £65-70.

Your PSU isn't powerful enough I'm afraid, and as for the cables, I think you'd need to get a couple of SATA to molex cables, and then a molex to 6 pin PCI-E cable, not the tidiest of solutions!

After removing a old tv card from the list, and putting my actual CPU voltage in, it drops to 17.7v / 213w. With some room for error in his calculations, I think I can scrape by with that

I actually have a SATA to Molex from an old IDE HDD that I forgot about.

Craps all over it. HTH.

have this card on an antec 450w PSU, runs fine.

HOWEVER.....it only has a 2 pin fan connecter which means there is no controlling the fan speed so this runs with the fan on full all the time which is very loud. XFX will send you an adaptor if you ask them but all this does is half the power to the fan so it runs at a lower fixed speed. not ideal but is quiet now and has never overheated on me.

If I was to run two of these (SLI I think),would it be better than a 9800GT/GTX? I know a 9800 would be more expensive but I'm trying to find out what would be best. Only play COD 4-5 etc.

Many Thanks People.

Good price for an Alpha Dog edition - ordered one, thanks OP

if you got a lil more monies get a HD 4670 i have one and its fasssssst
plays almost all new games on top res
