I know this is expensive for a graphics card but this is currently one of the best priced branded GTX 275s around. I ordered one last week and it comes with a Free copy of Far Cry 2 and 3d Mark vantage. Whilst the 4890 is a good deal, most people have nvidia based boards thus making this a good future buy for SLI. Don't forget free delivery with Av forum members etc.

Same sort of price at places like overclockers, but I'd prefer to buy from scan.

I think TBF most mobo's are single slot.

Yeah your right, but... I don't really consider overclockers Uk a valid retailer, almost like buying it without the warranty

how does this compare against a 4890, i ab going to build from scratch so i have to option of sli or xfire for now.

If you want performance for least cash buy a crossfire mobo and get a 4850x2 which are less than £150 at the moment then you can add a 4850 or 4850x2 to it later. For where it sits to the nvidea placings it sits between the 280 and 285 on performance.

The 4850x2s have gone back up in price now.

This card is faster than a 4890 see: tomshardware.com/cha…tml

Also with a 4850x2 you are relying on well coded games for performance. With this however as a single gpu solution its not a problem

The problem is that 1GB version of the 4850 x2 you have linked too, is meant to be far inferior to the 2GB version.

ocz an invalid retailer... please explain...

Never had any issues with them whatsoever...

Is it me or does anyone else think this is not a really cheap price for it? .. if you minus the price of the game I guess it might be cheaper then a few places.

PS: I built a computer from parts all from overclockers and had better service there then most retailers... especially there return service.

It's faster in some games, 4890 is faster in others. The difference isn't that much. Also these run very hot.

You're better off waiting or getting the £160 4890 deal if it's still up, £175 for this isn't that great a deal.

I wouldn't rely on their benchmarks. To be honest performance varies from game to game. In some the GTX275 edges it, while in others the 4890 is superior.
Personally I stick to ATI as I've had less compatability problems with the past compared with Nvidia cards.
Both cards are very overclockable.
At the end of the day you'd probably be happy with either card, so all it comes down to in the end is price.

I'd like an explanation of this also? I would always choose them over scan who I have always thought sold seconds from memory?

I've always bought from overclockers, my only trouble has been a faulty processor which was refunded immediately, although wasn't too impressd with th RMA web interface.

Well google it. The main problem is that if you buy something and it becomes faulty they don't want to know telling you to contact the manufacturer. I used to use them along time ago when there wasn't the range elsewhere and were ok. If seems they got big and there customer service levels dropped. They are meant to be getting better. But as you can get the products for similar places like Ebuyer, Scan and to a point Amazon thats where my money goes.

My experience with overclockers over the last 3 years has been very good. Great prices and customer service.

Ive bought quite a lot of stuff from Overclockers in the past and never had any issues even if it needed to be returned. I think it is quite fashionable to knock them so as soon as they are mentioned someone invariably slates them, but if they were really quite that bad they would have ceased trading some time ago.

From my experience I would recommend avoiding SLI.

I've been running 2 8800gtx's in SLI since xmas (prior to that I had a single 8800gtx) and have found it to be a clunky inconvenience for very little gain.

As SLI is not mainstream, the driver support is far less mature. SLI profiles for games need to be created by Nvidia & rolled into a subsequent driver release. Having said that, there are beta tools (nHancer), for creating your own profiles - however this is a laborious process of trial & error that few will be bothered to attempt.

There are still many games unsupported, and of those games that are supported the performance benefits are extremely hit-and-miss.
Oh and don't even consider multi-monitor + SLI if you're running XP - as it's unsupported. (meaning you have to often manually enable/disable SLI when running in such an environment)

The extra power consumption is another important consideration too.

While the idea of future-proofing your machine by using an sli capable motherboard seems like a good idea for a new-build, in the end it doesn't work out that way.

1) Initial extra cost of the SLI motherboard & more powerful PSU
2) Later cost of the 2nd GPU
3) recurring cost of the extra power usage
4) Clumsy driver & game support.

It's better just to spend a bit more initially, and get yourself a GPU that will have the same useful life as the CPU it will be used with.

Ebuyer is mostly the only place my money goes to for PC parts - top service

I've also bought most of my components from Overclockers over the years and I've never had a problem, RMA'd a graphics card with them in the past without problems, always been decent really.

Novatech for the wins

Voted cold simply because its pointless buying these cards. and this is coming from someone whose got a quad core machine with sli. seriously, **ck this.

What is with all the bitching? Many people have had problems with OCUk myself included. If you find this too much for a graphics card, then move off and don't comment. I did mention it was expensive. This site is meant to about sharing good deals, not bitching trying to find fault with every post

And also lets face it, If i had said the card was slower than a 4890 someone would have bitched, on par, someone would have bitched, and wait faster, someone would have bitched

awesome card!!
