With the 6000 series, XFX is literally putting you in the game. The AMD Radeon HD 6850 is 3-D ready and one of the first HDMI and DisplayPort 1.2 solutions for Stereoscopic 3-D on the market.

The AMD Radeon HD 6850 ushers in a new era of gaming that takes users to an entirely new level. The AMD 3-D experience is truly immersive and seamless. AMD has also teamed up with other Open 3-D ecosystem partners to provide consumers with more choice, more innovation and lower cost.

This high-speed graphics card outdoes the competition with 775MHz, a 4GHz memory clock, DP + HDMI + Dual DVI which allows for play across four screens and a shader speed of 800 to ensure that graphics are crisp and life-like.

Along with this series XFX debuts the 3E Trilogy, incorporating AMD Eye-Definition (utilizing AMD's HD3D technology & DirectX 11 for explosive performance and stunning effects), AMD Eyefinity (which supports multi-display gaming) and AMD Eyespeed (improves video image quality and application performance for amazing visuals) technologies.

The AMD Radeon HD 6850 offers no compromise performance with flawless image quality so users aren't just playing the game - they're in it.

Decent price - maybe they are clearing them out with the 7850 incoming soon?

Good stuff. Get 2 in SLI and you have yourself a BF3 eating machine.

Yep, the 7000 series cards are expected to be unveiled in a few days in London, they will be the first cards from AMD to be based on 28nm so hopefully a bit cooler/less power consuming...... Hopefully.

2 AMD cards in SLI no such thing my friend multiple AMD cards is Crossfire SLI is a multi Nvidia card setup as for a BF3 eating machine I have the 6870 and it destroys these games, my cards overclocked but it can be done by any idiot and it plays these games pretty much maxed out. I had MW3 on earlier on on my Dell 23inch 1920x1080 monitor and every setting was at max by default which was set by the game the only thing down was AA that was at 2x but i had no issue bumping that to 4x. I know these are the lower 6850 but they are not that much slower than the 6870. Most people are not playing at 1080p so this card on it own is more than enough to get high FPS with all the pretty stuff on.

Personally i would wait as with the 7XXX due these will fall more because the 7 series are meant to be a lot faster making these slow compared hence further price drops i will wait for the 6870 to go under a £100 and get another 2 of those in crossfire will be faster than Nvidias 580GTX.

The 7000 series will be a stupidly high price as well, £99 is great price.

Why on earth would you crossfire two budget cards when you could just buy a single decent card? (6950). Crossfire is a complete waste of time/money, unless you need better than the best single card available.

thanks, i was looking at getting a geforce gtx 550 ti but this is the same price/maybe cheaper and a better card.

i got this around april / may last year for £150, so £99 is a good price

consider the gtx 460, it's faster than the 6850 and can be had for £100

in overall benchmarks the 6850 is slightly ahead, anyway i think nvidia phased out the 460

you can easily bump this card up to 850/1150 on stock voltage with afterburner.

make sure you get the new catylst "b" performance driver too.

Playing BF3 at 1080p on High at 60 fps on ONE of these (although shadows is on low lololololol)

thanks for the info intranix & an4rew looking on ebay there its about the same price for a gtx 460 so i will probably end up going with this tbh its only really to play swtor on full hopefully, every other box is ticked really.

ati graphic cards are so nice, they produce rich image quality so hd movies & games look amazing.

Nvidia > amd for performance

Amd > nvidia for price

U choose. Also sli is a waste of money, getting one single powerful card is defo better then 2 older weaker cards, however if ur just a normal gamer and ur set up isnt too demanding one of these is decent for the money

The card to get if you have a bit more to spend is the gtx560ti as overclocked it beats a gtx570. The 6850 for the money is a good budget gamers card. I paid £130 last November.

Hi. What power do you need for this card. thanks.. queue.

You've answered you're own question.

The other aspect to consider is cost - A pair of these in crossfire will deliver 99% of the performance a single GTX 580, for 60% of the cost.

To be fair, MW3 hasn't changed since COD 4. I reckon I could get it running on a potato if I tried. BF3 however would give these a run for their money as a single card.

This. So many driver issues/If one **** up they all mess up.
I've always been put off going SLI/Crossfire because of the issues i've seen, some are just so frustrating it's not worth it. I don't care if 2 of these will run faster than a Gtx580, I'm still getting a Gtx 580.

I found the opposite to be true , Nvidia produce better images for me , after owning 2 ATI cards i will never buy another, constant driver issues even on a clean install put me off for life.

Wow! Thats sold it to me, best get one of these! Why must they write such b******s!

Good price though

This looks a good deal have been looking around at this or the 6870, so tempted now but like always, I bet a 6870 drops to £120 ish.(_;) Heat added thanks op

Edit: Just looked at the benchmark result and this is better than the 6870 Rank 12, the 6870 is rank 13.

Really literally ? That is quite a marketing claim, sounds like lawnmower man.

I thought that too. Complete misuse of the word 'literally'. If it were true, I'd be playing the Leisure Suit Larry Compilation or something.;)

I'd wait these cards are dropping because the new ones are coming out in Jan.

The 6870 blows this one out of the water and for literally an extra £20-30 atm this is a silly buy.

Original Poster

I was going to get the 6770 GDDR5 but there around £80 and for an extra £20 you get 40% more performance. Nvidia's 450 is going for around the same money but this beats it. Looks like it was a slow burner - I posted it yesterday with little interest. Im looking forward to play some BF3.

This is HOT - it was hot at £135 a couple of months ago, this time it's even better.. excellent price for a good card!

Good price, heated.

This has me thinking now. Just bought a second HD5770 to Crossfire. Now do I keep the 2 5770's, or buy one of these. Mmmmmmm. Must be a pretty close call I'd reckon.

Got this card a long while ago, it is quite loud so pro tip: use ati overlocking tool to set the fan at 25% when you aren't playing games.

The 6000 series was a minor iteration over the 5000 series, the 7000 series should be a massive jump in power whilst hopefully running cooler and quieter. However unless ATI flood the market, expect to pay a premium for the 7000 serie.

The rather depressing thing is that there's unlikely to be any games that push the top 7000 card to its limits. Battlefield 3 runs well on current systems and The Witcher 2 with ubersampling turned on is just a horribly inefficient filter over an already good looking game.

Funny I hear these comments all the time on the internet. My mate used to say this about ATI drivers 5 years ago when he warnded me about buying an X1950 pro.

The last 3 cards I have purchased were an X1950 pro, a HD 4770 and a HD 6850. Not a single driver problem with any of them and every time new drivers came out there was improvement in performance.

I think the whole driver issue is pretty old hat now and just something for fanboys to use to justify them writing off a whole company. Why anyone is a fanboy of a graphics card producer is totally beyond me. I purchase the best performance at the highest price I can afford and it hasn't been nvidia since a long while ago.

78XX is going to be released this month going by leaks. The 79XX will be released early next year. Both to be officially announced on Monday - you'd be mad not to wait at this point.

i guess the price £99.94 is just to outshine overclockers offer
overclockers.co.uk/LP/…php
as they today claim that theirs is the lowest price 6850 in the uk at £99.95

im deff going nvidia next upgrade,,,,,, constant display driver crashes, last night it happened 3 times and recovered within 45 seconds with my 6870, it was the same on my 5750, 4850, 4890 and my toxic 4870.. its never in a game either, its always just while on the desktop just trying to open web pages or more frustratingly while rendering a vid.... and its the same for me, it dosnt matter if its a fresh install of the os or what os it still happens and its not the way its set up either, i recently upgraded all my components in the tower............ it still happens........ i honestly dont know why i keep going back, i think i keep seeing the nice price point........ Nvidia next time for me.

Its nothing to do with being a fanboy,,,,,,if it works well for you and your happy with it then happy days, go were ever you get the best experience from, as for me and a lot of others its a constant hinderence
