really cheap

For Seasonic build and gold rating, that's real cheap. Heat added

Product description says its Bronze certified?

Oh yeah....wrong description then (or maybe product )
Look at reviews though, all say 80+ Gold

Its still a good price, but it is probably a bronze rated PSU ,as it states it in two places on the product description page. Those reviews are quite old , xfx might have two xfx TS psu's with gold and bronze?

Picture says gold on the 80 sticker if you zoom. Also product code would suggest Gold P1-550G

Yeah 2 version of TS one is bronze, other gold. Either way even if this is bronze its still a good deal

Damn just bought an EVGA 550w GS Gold for 52.99 off Amazon. Wish I had spotted this, even if it isn't modular. Heat.

Good price.

If you can find room for all this then you won't be disappointed

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/611WyEzy8zL._SL1024_.jpg

amazon product info shows Item model number is P1-550G-TS3X. AFAIK that is a gold-rated Seasonic S12G. Even if its the bronze unit, its good psu at a great price...
Tom's PSU tier list has this as a tier 2 psu.

Definately bronze, xfxforce.com/en-…xb9

Well worth the money though.

Out of stock

Temporarily out of stock, there is a difference.

nice thanks for this

That's the price of the Bronze version. Looks like a misprice.

bought this a month or so for over £60 , hot price, gold rating, I think it came with 5 year warranty too

whoops just noticed that this is not the modular version, I bought the fully modular versionone for £60, still hot price

I have a weird thing where my system can't handle more than 2 usb hard drives at once, would be likely to be a lack power?

I would go for modular. Even with a large case the Phanteks Enthoo pro i find the modular just about ok.

mine went bad after 3 years, regardless of the brand, have to remember they don't make the components, you only need a bad batch of components to cause an early failure, regardless of the brand or how much money the PSU cost

Could be that you dont have enough power on the +5v , I had a System which would would shut itself off If I plugged in a particular USb stick. USB hard drives require reasonable power and could push your Voltages enough to trigger ShutdooN or other error.

It might be made by Seasonic but I doubt if it’s a re-badged Seasonic S12G-550.

Scorching, that's a steal! I paid £31 for the 430W Bronze version a few months back...

If it is a power issue, it would be down to your motherboard rather than your PSU.
You could always pick yourself up a powered USB hub, that will likely solve your problem.
You could try disabling Windows ability to cut power to USB devices (Device Manager>USB Root Hub>Properties>Power management>un-tick 'Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power'). Might work, might not.
I'd go the powered hub route.

Seasonic are very good.....while they last. From my experience, not very long
BUT quick return and refund. Which is more than I got from Nero Burning (WORST online traders)

Looks to be bronze based on price. Ebuyer have same model name for bronze and gold. Although their product description is much better. The reality is with a bronze rating these units will be more likely to fail. I would prefer to get a quality PSU if I build a high end rig. I was looking at RM750i 650W. Costs more but 7 year warranty and much more safer.

Only hope Amazon honour this deal, if they get more back orders than they want I will receive an email saying order cancelled, its happened a few times. Hot if honoured!

Per XFX site: there are two ranges of TS PSUs ie Bronze and Gold
80-Plus Gold certified version P1-550G-TS3X
80-Plus Bronze certified version P1-550S-GREN

The Amazon listing says P1-550G-TS3X ie Gold variant.

Was looking for a PSU to rip apart so I could stick it in a G5 case mod and came across this psu at this price earlier in the week. Stuck it in the basket but the price shot up before I could buy. Was hoping for a 650W psu but beggars can't be choosers at this price point! Plus £10 off with the £40 gift card promotion thingy.

Hope they send out the gold rated model as the box will be a cruncher for CEP2. I pray that it can fit in the old G5 psu case!

Hot.

Yes. Plus, some motherboards are a bit naughty and push all the USB power onto power feed (5VSB - 5V Standby power) which can cause problems!

The way Seasonic do their modular often doesn't save you much cabling depending on the layout of your case. With mine, even though you get 3 SATA power on one lead they aren't spaced far enough apart to use all 3, so I still have to use the second cable (and have 6 SATA power connectors) and try and hide all the gubbins

I.t's Bronze.But this is Gold for … I.t's Bronze.But this is Gold for 22.99http://www.amazon.co.uk/550W-Gold-Silent-Power-Supply/dp/B000KND4M8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

reviews are not too great on this one and it's not tier2, can't expect much at that price but psu is one of those things you shouldn't skimp on . As the saying goes don't skimp on shoes and your bed as you spend about 50% of your life in them. PSU can blow and take some or all components with them. Gold rating is just the efficiency.

No offence to wildlotos3 but this post is wrong on both counts.

The XFX TS 550 in the OP is quoted on the amazon page as this Part No: P1-550G-TS3X

This is the GOLD rated version - look on the XFX website under TS 550w (HERE)

The BRONZE rated versions have two possible part nos: P1-550S-GREN or P1-550S-XXB9 (check HERE)

On top of that, the pictures on the Amazon page all show the gold rated version with the correct part no. Oh, and all the reviews say it's the gold rated version. So if Amazon supply a Bronze rated PSU, you can send it back.

Hope that's cleared up the confusion for everyone.

Now for the other part of that post. The "Gold" Silent PSU by CiT.

It's COLOUR is "Gold". It has no efficiency rating, bronze, silver or gold. It is, in fact, rated as a Tier 5 PSU. Here's a quote about Tier 5 PSU's:

Tier FiveAvoid IMMEDIATELY. These units are highly unsafe to use. No such … Tier FiveAvoid IMMEDIATELY. These units are highly unsafe to use. No such protections added, very thin gauge wiring used, false advertising and too much to list. Reference to a higher tiered unit for a better, money saving and a much safer unit. For your safety's sake, please don't order or pick one up for use in your system. These units are a potential fire hazard and could even kill you, let alone your system.

So please, never buy a CiT PSU no matter what colour they paint it.

so if anyone bought it? gold or broze?

This is gold, based on Seasonic G like XFX XTR. Many people here seem to assume that a higher 80+ rating means better quality. Incorrect. e.g. Antec HCG is better quality than Corsair RM.

Can I use it for a micro ATX case?

Not received yet...still on back order. The wait is killing as I need to put in a new gfx card.
