I assumed this because there was a review on YouTube showing it working in English but after a bit of research I discovered that was a special edition version that was crowd funded through Indiegogo.
Had no issues at all.
The Chinese voice is nowhere as bad as you think, you barely notice it. I didnt need voice control (gimmeky to me)
Plug it, set it up, turn down the volume on the app and forget about it. If you usually have radio/music on at a average volume, you will hardly hear her at the lowest setting, but enough to know an 'event' has happened.
The only time I hear her is:
1) when the engine starts.
2) when it records an 'event' (usually a speed bump for me).
3) when turn engine stops
The app works great and can add both cameras to it at once. It has the usual 'connect to the cameras WiFi hotspot' connectivity and can then view the gallery.
Videos are 1min chunks and really good quality, I was looking for something that could grab number plates and this does it well.
Plugging SD card into PC is nicely arranged in folders (normal and separate events folder etc).
Only con I had was getting the cards out if I needed to, a bit fiddly.
Got the front one connected through a Xiamai RoidMi3 bluetooth adapter which charges phone at same time with no issues in operation.
Two of these separate is better value then a branded dual cam setup by other venders and more than half the price (IMO).
It says get 5 for $49
It's worth paying the extra £5
They have hardware differences so it's impossible to flash the English firmware onto the Chinese version.
Got a link? Just searched Xiaomi on Indiegogo and no dash cams come up.
indiegogo.com/pro…rol
Some of the comments are a bit worrying though especially the one about them using an outside server for the wifi.
I was going to order one from Indiegogo after cancelling my Aliexpress order comment #3 above but I'll give it a miss.
Just read the comments on Indiegogo too, I'm with ya, I'll also give it a miss.
But don't most people in the UK who have a contract sim account that includes a data allowance leave it switched on all the time??
I know I do so that when I'm out and about my whats-app , Spotify and other apps still work.
I certainly don't want to be switching it off when I'm driving because my cars radio system integrates with my phones 4G.
And also please note my comment was aimed at the Indiegogo version of this camera that has modified hardware & firmware the one in this deal will more than likely be ok.
I am pretty sure that every phone has ability to limit access to mobile data per app, so you can disable access for xiaomi app only
Some sellers really push it when they say something is by "Xiaomi".
I've got a MiniUSB cable for my existing Nextbase 412GW and would like to evaluate if I will have to swap that out too.
Looking at the last photo it has a micro usb.
Amazon & ebay sell mini to micro adapters for about £2 and you can also get a right or left angle version to convert your existing straight usb to make it neater.
The English version is $49 + $10 shipping which comes to over £40. From what I’ve heard the voice control is not that useful so doesn’t really matter what language it is.
The English app works on the Chinese version.
I was going to buy this camera but went for a Blueskysea B1w instead after cancelling the Xiaomi 'see post #3'.
It arrived exactly 8 days after ordering it from China and to be honest it's superb and exceeds my expectations.
The camera speaks English informing you what it's doing and the picture quality is far better than my Anker Roav and very importantly it has no Li-po batteries inside to overheat or expand because it uses super capacitors.
Plus it's tiny and if placed correctly near impossible to see from the outside.
