I personally would not buy such an expensive item from Gearbest. If you have any issues then you are hosed as they usually demand you return it to them under fully insured expensive post.

As to the ultrabook, it's a real nice piece of kit.

What company doesn't demand you to return it to them if there's a problem? This is a China exclusive item, whomever you buy it from, you'll be in the same boat

Would I be charged import taxes on this?

I never said companies don't demand you to return them, you seem to have missed the "you return it to them under fully insured expensive post." which is typically about £40 for a £600 insured item to China.

You can buy this of quite a few UK based eBay sellers, which would not incur an approx £40 fee to return it. So it might be a China only item, but it can still be sourced as a grey import.

cheapest I can see is 690 on ebay for argos. so 175 more to save on the 40 pound return fee. that does have uk windows 10 tho..

I expect that from any overseas seller, and if I was posting a laptop out, I would insure it myself, regardless of the seller, just so I can cover myself as well. The ones sold on ebay are much more expensive, and of course, which source do the ebay sellers get it from? Most likely through similar means like gearbest. The main issue is that this laptop is a China exclusive, and that of course comes with risks when purchasing overseas, this should be expected.
Ordered...seems to tick all the right boxes.

its not the product thats the issue its the retailer and warranty (or rather lack of a worthwhile one from Gearbest)

If you have a problem with this £500 laptop from Gearbest then you may as well consider the money gone....
back up to $700
One more thing of note, which many of you might not be aware of... if you purchase this item from **ANY** company using Paypal, you lose all Consumer Credit Act 1974 - Section 75 credit law consumer rights. Buy anything over £100 I advise you NOT to use Paypal, and pay for the item directly with a foreign exchange credit card.

For the specs and built quality and price... i doubt there will be many issues... also this has been around for a while, never heard any major issues from anyone!

I understand £500 is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you check alternatives of the same specs, you are looking for around 50% surcharge...

I used gearbest for over a year, and dont remember having an issue with any product so far... cant speak for everyone, but i choose what i buy searching unbiased reviews from different part of the world... not just from a single popular channel/site!
I've just clicked on the "get deal" link and the price is displayed in GBP. Previously when I've bought stuff on Gearbest its been priced in dollars. Is this a change from Gearbest? I assume I'll still be charged in dollars and this is a conversion of dollars into GBP?
