What’s the WiFi range like on these compared to a mesh system from Tenda for example.

Also is this compatible with the virgin media hub in modem mode using DHCP setup ?

Curse you! I don't need another excuse to switch the wireless off on the crappy VirginMedia soup or hub 3 and various range extenders, 'cos it isn't strong enough to get a signal to pass through a damp paper bag, yet alone 5 brick walls!

LA LA LA I'm pretending I didn't hear about this, must resist!

I thought the same, but got one, its going in one of the older walled properties, that currently has its own mifi in it, so this will suffice for the whole place, without taking up 3287153ft of space, like the other brands
Can this work with a mesh system?
Clearly done something wrong as I got this for £25.27 and the code didnt work..

I too would like to know this. Without some kind of custom firmware I'm guessing the answer is no.

Forgot any idea of installing OpenWRT onto the 4A Gigabit edition for now.
forum.openwrt.org/t/x…685
For the moment, it requires a SPI flash programmer just to unlock the bootloader.

The Xiaomi Mi 4A gigabit edition should Not to be confused with the less expensive standard 4A which has 100mb ethernet ports.
gearbest.com/wir…303

OpenWRT is apparently available for the slower 4A (100MB) variant, but even that requires some soldering etc.
git.openwrt.org/?p=…9ab

The older Xiaomi Mi 3g is a safer bet as it does support openwrt, but the USB3 port causes interference with 2.4 GHz wifi from what I've read.

MI 4A (Gigabit) 880MHz MT7621 SoC 128MB/16MB

It's rather silly that Xiaomi have given the same '4A' model number to both the 100M and Gigabit editions. It wouldn't surprise me if some sellers list the Gigabit model for sale but ship the 100mb model by accident.

In simple terms? What effect will it have?
I can't comment on the wifi range and performance for the 100M and Gigabit variants of the 4A.

Any Gigabit router would be essential if you have ultra-fast broadband (eg. Virgin 200mb or faster), or if you have any requirement to transfer data between ethernet wired devices, or between ethernet and wireless devices at speeds greater than 100 mbps.

I would have thought so, but if not, you have still saved over £100 for the same thing!

fwiw, it depends what you want a new router for. Asus RT-AC86u and Xiaomi 4A are in different classes of routers in terms of performance and price.

The Asus RT-AC86u is far superior router if you require the extra functionality from its firmware features and extra processing power. Asus has dual core 1.8GHz SoC compared to the 4A's dual core 880MHz SoC.

Asus supports openvpn out of the box. If you were to put openwrt and openvpn onto a 4A, the Asus will probably trounce the 4A by a factor of 2 to 3x faster openvpn encryption speeds.
Can this be used as a access point as I have nighthawk router downstairs want better wifi upstairs I have cat7 cable already up here I can use for it for access point if it can do that

fwiw, if you fast forward to 13 min 38 sec in this youtube video for the 4A Gigabit edition with 'chinese' firmware, you can see the 3 modes offered. Unfortunately, video is not in English.

youtu.be/8cI…ee0

The highlighted option is the 'router' mode. Middle one looks like 'Repeater/extender mode', and the bottom option looks like 'Access Point' mode.

"The older Xiaomi Mi 3g".

Does that mean that that particular Xiaomi router has SIM card capabilities then?, and can therefore support a SIM card up to 3G speeds then, or something?, or ... thanx.
Couldnt resist it any longer, went online very late last night and they took £32 bucks for yin 🤐🤐🤐 the other half is tech challenged 😋😋 saying they over charged you and said its in Chinese bless said I wouldnt miss the deal for a fiver waste more than giving my hard earned each week an im better at yon silent gig
Shame no English reviews on this yet. Really want to see a vid on the range before purchasing and also if the setup can be selected in English

fwiw, I thought the 'international version' being listed by Gearbest, means it should ship with English firmware if you don't wish to use a smart phone app to set it up.

Unclear whether Gearbest may throw in a free 3 pin UK converter plug for whatever power adapter (USA?) is included with the router.

Ok so if it’s not an international version, then do you just set it up in the app and that’s in English ?
You would be correct if previous Xiaomi routers with chinese firmware are to go by.
play.google.com/sto…_GB

Otherwise, you can use google translate function in google chrome web browser, to convert the menus from chinese to English.

The reviews on gearbest state this comes with Chinese firmware not English !
Gearbest sell both the Chinese version and International versions. Unless I am mistaken, the reviews posted so far seem to be for the Chinese version.

Got this for £20.51 delivered from alli express. No customs charges and only took a week. Firmware in Chinese but easy to set up via google chrome. The WiFi range on this is incredible, it’s that good I have now returned the tenda novas. Obviously the speed decreases the further you go but the overall range from the 4 high gain antennas is brilliant. Very pleased for and the price nothing comes close to this in terms of performance.
Anyone know the difference between 4A and 4C and then there is 4 aswell???
36$ Ordered, Thanks op!!
