Another decent phone offer from Gearbest. It's labelled as an international version, but unfortunately does not cover Band 20 for certain 4G carriers over here, but I know you guys are interested regardless

Without wanting to start a war of words, what is the real world impact of …Without wanting to start a war of words, what is the real world impact of not having B20? I’ve ordered this phone knowing that it will work on three and EE, so I’m not worried. It’s also dual sim. I just don’t get why an everyday person needs B20. It seems to be an argument I only see on this forum. I know at least 6 people who have phones that lack B20 and they never complain of reception issues.

If you know people with non B20 phones who don't complain about reception and know it will work with Three and EE, then it's best to leave it there without reading too many hukd comments about B20. It's quite a controversial topic on here, primarily due to one particular person... A lot of people will know who I mean

The importance of B20 and real world impact of not having it would be dependant on the individual using it. E.g O2 user = important if they want 4G since their 4G is solely B20 but Three user = unimportant since their B20 is used primarily/solely for their VoLTE and can't be used on phones that aren't supplied by Three.

Regardless of individual differences, you'll get people telling you that B20 is essential and also non B20 phone users who counter those statements by saying their phone is fine on X network in X location. People who say everyone needs B20 seem to have a theoretical standpoint of something like, "all UK networks use B20 for 4G, so it's required and non B20 phones will have bad signal". Whereas people with non B20 phones are speaking from practical standpoint, and give their own individual experience whilst at the same time aren't saying it will applicable to everyone else.

Does not even have 4G band 20, must be using as a tablet.

And then wait weeks for it to arrive.

I have used this phone since May, it's the best phone I ever had

Shame no band 20 or I would have pounced at this price. Comparable to the S8.

I'm hoping the Mi 7 will have band 20 and a similar price.

I dont think so, but wish it was true . Xiaomi lacks the patents to sell its phones abroad. So makes its phones only for China. Those Xiaomi phones which come with B20 are expensive like the Mi Mix 2

I have the ceramic version of the Mi6 and I can safely say it's the best phone I have ever owned! B20 no issue for me, I'm on EE and I get full 4G all the time.

If a $90 Cubot Magic has band 20 nobody else have an excuse no more.

Oh man this is what I have been looking for. I wanted to hold off for the blue version because that looks sexy but at this price I might get the black.

There already is a "Global Version" Mi6. It has the red "Global Version" sticker, EU charger and English box just like the Redmi "Global Version" phones. However, it does not have B20, so it will not make much of a difference apart from the ROM being pre-installed.
32280424-k0HBI.jpg
International Version in Gearbest terminology = China market version, with Global ROM installed by them.

"Global Version" = Singapore/Indonesia/Malaysia market version with Global ROM factory pre-installed. All of the Redmi phones which have this red "Global Version" sticker all have B20. However the Mi Max 2 and Mi 6 "Global Version" do not. More info here<

If you look at the Malaysia Mi Site< or Singapore, their Redmi phones all have B20 and so do their Mi A1 and Mi Note 2, but for some reason their Mi Max 2 and Mi 6 do not, even though the versions for these markets would carry the same red "Global Version" branding.

There are many people using only 3G phone , 2G phone and no phone and still surviving. But if you are spending £ 300 and living in UK , why should you buy phone missing the best UK 4G band used by all operators including EE. When in crowded places like in London inside a train or a bus , a good data signal makes all the difference , With now VOLTE , VILTE , Gigabit speed possible with CAT 16 modem(carrier aggregation) inside the phone , it only makes sense to have all 4G bands available. Personally for me more than any other features , fast data speed and good reception is a must to have in a phone. I wish I knew the reason why Xiaomi would not make a B20 version of this phone like the Mi MIX 2 and the MiA1. I would have bought one myself as well at this price.

I know a lot of people bash you on here I am not going to do that but in reply to what you have said, I think no b20 on there phone is that that phone is not made for that market so why waste resources on that. They sell phones by the millions and if you save time money and effort in the millions they it's beneficial for you not to add it on. Mi6 didn't even release in india due to the fact it was only made for china hence the exclusion on b20. Xiaomi do make other phone with b20 so it's not a patent issue it's there disscion to make the phone without b20. I have recently purchased a Xiaomi 5s no b20 i am on ee and my phone my signal calls 4g and internet have not been affected compared to other phones is the same and I travel the UK going to different places.

I suggest it's simply to do with licensing costs. If you're selling a phone in a market that doesn't use B20 then why pay to include it? Whether that's additional hardware or licencing or whatever.

When you're selling devices at the bottom end of a cut throat market with high end(ish) specs every penny is going to count.

Outstanding deal, the specs on that phone compared to the hugely inflated prices of a Samsung or even the latest Pixel phones in my opinion is a no brainer, B20 or no B20. Nice find OP.

I think the Honor 9 which is the same price is superior.

Thank you for the above explanation, it makes sense now what is meant by Global and International ROM.

Anyway I've gone for this deal (Xiaomi Mi6 Ceramic 6GB RAM 128GB Global ROM @ banggood), got it for £310 by paying in USD with Halifax Clarity. It was touch and go between Mi6 and OnePlus 5 (£313).

Headphone jack doesn't make a difference to me and it has a adaptor anyway, plus you don't need a SD card slot when you have 128gb storage.

Does it definitely have band 20 ? I have looked on a few sites for specs but can't see it. SD cards are great for when a phone gets bricked - best reason imo .
