Up to you but you're having a laugh if you don't think Facebook, Amazon etc are not harvesting personal data and breaching privacy ethics, Huawei were made a public enemy in the US as they had been seriously undercutting the competition price wise and it was easier for Trump and co to tar them with the foreign spy brush. Not saying any company is completely innocent here but if Xiaomi want to spy on my boring life then they can, no worse than any of the others afaik.

Great price for the 128gb version. Heat added. I have the 64gb and it's a cracking phone. I know the sd845 SOC has been superseded now but bloody hell this phone still flies!

What would people choose? This or the p30 with o2 refresh for a similar price? Thanks in advance

I was about to get this and went for the P30 just due to being newer. Had a few days and it's great. That said everything I have seen on this had been really good to be fair. Either way both great phones.
Can you get an adapter to plug in headphones?

Mk 9T also has no SD card slot, so it is better to buy 128Gb version

Thank you. This is what I'm thinking too, I've never had a Huawei phone but the specs look good to me (still on the galaxy S7 edge). I just know that as soon as I take the plunge for the p30 @MrSwitch will find something outstanding on O2 refresh again

I have had a few in the past and good phones. I install Nova launcher due to preferring mist of my apps hidden.

For just over £200 you are getting a lot of phone and an amazing camera.

I need to change my subscriptions, I get nervous every time I can get an alert lol.

When you say amazing, are we talking Pixel qualify? I'm currently on a cracked but still fantastic Pixel 2 XL, and the camera is top of the line especially for portrait style shots. I'm tempted on either of these phones rather than paying £450-500 for a Pixel 4 though.

I have just come from a Pixel 3a and I would say they are comparable. I haven't had chance to do any night shots yet though which were great on the 3a.

Glad to hear this.
I'm got my eyes on a mi 9se due to its smaller size. Was between mi 9se and full size Pixel 3.
Still flipping a coin as I'd like the support and waterproofing of the pixel 3.
According to DXOmark there's only 3 points between the Pixel 3 and Mi 8 camera-wise (102 vs 99). 13 between the Pixel 4 and Mi 8 (112 vs 99).
This deal should be in Electronics thread

Ordered for £219, called today and they sent £22 refound. Quidco tracked £2.75, it makes the final price £195.24! Great deal!

I switched from a Pixel 2 to a Mi 9 SE at Xmas.

So far, very happy with the 9 SE. I'm not camera obsessed, but it seems pretty comparable to the Pixel to me. Use Nova Launcher as well so not bothered about not being native Android. Love the size of the SE, physically, it's almost identical to the standard Pixel 2, but the screen itself is considerably bigger. Was dubious about the battery size, but it's fine. Lasts a whole day comfortably for me. Good phone.
Is this not a better deal than the Mi9 ?

Mi 9 has newer SD855 but only 64gb memory, no microSD card support in both...
3400mAh battery though? Oh dear. Because that screen will DECIMATE that inadequate amount of juice.

Better to save your money and wait a little longer for this 5260mAh handset, which is steadily coming down in price:

AMOLED uses much less battery. Mine easily lasts 1.5 days with average usage: Facebook, streaming Spotify all day and a little gaming.
Amazing price.

Description on the website is wrong. It does have a Kryo 385 Gold quad core but it has another quad core in there too. Snapdragon 845 is inside which is one of the best phone chipsets on the market.
Misleading pic too... The fingerprint scanner is on the back not in the screen like the Mi9.
How well would this battery last playing Roblox, my son is Roblox mad and would this last in comparison to the 8T

That's why I love the Pixel series, support and updates. That said the price of the P30 is hard to ignore. Even if I only keep it several months I can't see there much of a loss in resale value.
Got the 64gb on eBay, unmarked £130 , love it , the only upgrade I considered from my already great note 5 pro,

Personal choice, I would go with the p30. But if your really rough with your phone then that might not be as good of a move, as it isn't nearly as scratch resistant as something like this.

The P30 (L29) dual sim also allows both sims to have 4g, the Mi8 only allows 2g on the second sim. (I have never used both SIMS in a phone - ever, but I would imagine two sims both on 4g would eat the battery alive).

The P30 also has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Assuming I am looking at the correct phones in comparision that is.

*Edit - Someone has said that the Mi8 allows both to be used on 4g at the same time. Most sites I find say no, but reviews say Yes, and when I did a lot of digging (4-5 mins on google) I found a FAQ by Xiaomi that says it does indded support dual VoLTE.

I have had a Mi8 for just over a year. Great phone but having real battery problems. Doesn't last the day and Spotify absolutely kills it. I do wonder whether it's just my phone. I can lose up to 50% of battery in 2 hours on Spotify.
Is this for the LTE version? Not the standard Xiaomi mi 8. That's what comes up when I click on the link

Our Xiaomis do proper weird things at times in feeding info to Facebook. I don't even have the app installed as it killed the battery and use the web version but still it happens.

For example, I was talking to my son on the way to school about PE and doing badminton that day. Later in the day Facebook is offering me up Badminton clubs to join! I have never in my life searched nor considered this.

I bought a baseball cap from Andy Murray's new brand. Show my wife when it arrived, she feints at the price and suddenly she is getting adverts for this brand on her phone. She has never uttered the brand nor searched for it but magically it knew!

Scary stuff but not the end of the world.

If you look at the big players - Facebook and google..they promise to adhere to the maximum legal requirements in terms of privacy and data protection....I don't see any Chinese companies signing up to that....

You're raising this on all Xiaomi deals. I understand your view but they're not some small upstart, they're the 4th largest smartphone manufacturer in the world, not too far behind Apple. They're the #1 smartphone company in India and have been for some time. They've only fairly recently officially entered the UK market after years of grey import sales so they don't have the reputation they deserve yet. You should seriously try one of their phones. Spec for the price and build quality are outstanding.
