Isn't the key thing that you're getting stock android instead of the Chinese OS and it's 4gb whereas the majority of deals on the note 4 are 3gb?

Shame it doesnt have the 4100mah battery of the Note 4, or I'd be all over this.

Best shipping method then from Gearbest? The Priority and Flat Rate are reasonably priced, but the default appears to be unregistered Air Mail. Thanks.

Pay any upgraded delivery service, you're increasing the likeliness of being charged customs fees. I once paid £12 for my replacement tempered glass, the company was supposed to send from their EU warehouse, instead, was sent via USP from their warehouse in USA. Got charged £18 fee as they declared it £55 pounds. Lol
So many mobiles around the same spec now, hard to make a choice.. If I buy is payment taken at time of purchase or when dispatched?
What are people's experiences with these phones when they run into problems during the warranty period?
Best phone on the market. Android Oreo

True, hardware is all comparable. Major difference is in software. This has its OS managed by Google so it's in a class of its own, huge advantage.
In pictures that's not stock Andriod.
Think i made mistake ordering this phone.
I've asked for refund, got message back saying i can choose another item but i just want my money back.
Thinking of taking the plunge as phone looks great for the money. Does anyone have any preference here for Gearbest over Geekbuying. Havent used either. Any experience / advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I've only ever used Gearbest but had no issue with them and have made several purchases. It takes forever to get here but it's always been worth it for the savings.

They're using the pictures of the Mi 5X which is basically the same phone but with MIUI. If they can guarantee that you'll receive the Mi A1 then there's no mistake here.

GearBest is a pain to deal with in terms of refund, you might need to open a case with Paypal or charge back from your bank.
Ordered, stock android is a good selling point for me. Saves my unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom ROM where nearly everything works. Just hated the miui layer.
I've been refunded via paypal.

I read somewhere it comes with a fast charger for the Indian market that dealt with India specific electrical spikes.
But, I didnt doublecheck this version.

Have a read here full review here techradar.com/rev…1/3 I believe it supports fast charge 3
It's all quite confusing and a bit of a mess. Although the phone has a USB-C port, it doesn't support Power Delivery (which is the standard for charging larger USB-C devices like tablets and laptops). The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (which the Mi A1 has) supports Quick Charge 3.0 but apparently the phone itself doesn't actually support Quick Charge 3.0 but does support "fast charging" in that the supplied charger delivers 5V at 2A rather than the usual 1A.

If you're not using the supplied charger you therefore have to be careful what you use. If you were to use a Quick Charge 3.0 USB-A charger (which dynamically alters voltage/current depending on the device that is plugged in) you may find that some chargers would default to 5V at 1A which will charge the phone slowly. You therefore need to use a charger which supplies 5V at around 2A (most new USB chargers offer 5V at 2.4A). The other alternative is a USB-C charger some of which offer 5V at 3A. Without testing the phone with various chargers there is no way of knowing how it will respond. The best bet would be to go for a charger which has all options, for example:

amazon.co.uk/gp/…SH7

The implementation of USB charging and USB-C is a huge mess and it's a shame that hardware providers haven't implemented interoperable standards.

So would i but that battery in the Note 4 is a massive selling point. My wife's Note 4 goes 2 days between charges on pretty heavy use (OK, no proper gaming but forever texting, calling, facebooking, whatsapping and playing Words with Friends) and has been known to go three days.

What's the trade off in real life terms between this and the Note 4 regarding battery?

I can see that this is 3080 and the Note is 4100, but the Redmi would be running a different OS with Miui (sp)
In real terms, does the optimisation of the pure Android on this make up much of the difference in battery life does anyone know?

If we called the Redmi the benchmark at 100% in terms of real battery life, does anyone have a decent idea where this would sit in % relation?

Here is techradar review of battery
One of the big differences between the A1 and the Redmi Note 4 is the battery on the phone. The Redmi Note 4 made a name for itself with its hulking 4,000mAh battery which would never run out of juice, however, on the Mi A1, there’s a smaller 3,080mAh battery which a pretty standard affair these days. That being said, even here Xiaomi has worked with Google to optimise things and the end result is very good battery life which is more than the average phone with a 3,080mAh battery life.

In days to day usage, admittedly we just tested the phone for 3 days, we got around about 15-18 hours of charge time, which basically means that the phone easily lasts an entire work day. Thankfully, the phone also comes with USB Type C charging and it charges quickly thanks to fast charging tech being embedded in the phone.

and here is link to the full phone review techradar.com/rev…-a1 the bit about battery is on page 3

Yup
I've always had stuff at standard delivery from China. Never been hit with charges (3 phones, 2 boxes, tablet etc.). Sister in law has done 2 orders. Been hit both times cos they were express delivery.
Waiting on my note 4 now. Touch wood no charges. No rush....
