Xiaomi Mi A1 mobile phone - an excellent phone at an amazing price at Gearbest for £155.69

I took a chance on one of these at Christmas and was blown away with the quality and value for money. And that was without the current discount! At £155 it's an absolutely incredible bargain.

Because it's part of Google's Android One program it receives any Android updates immediately and runs a vanilla version of Android. No bloatware or custom interfaces - just pure Android.

It has a nice, premium feel to it and is very responsive in use. It's described as a mid-range Android phone but I don't think that really does it justice. Nothing I've thrown at it has caused any lag at all, it has a great camera, it has a lovely design and it gets any security updates earlier than most other Android phones.

It also has dual-SIM capabilities making it an excellent work phone. Or, if you only need/want a single SIM, you can use the other slot for a microSD card for up to 128GB of extra storage.

It's from GearBest but they've never let me down - it just means waiting a while for the delivery.

Unregistered is the safest.

Maybe the safest if you don't want to be hit by customs. Perhaps not the safest if you want it to get to you .
I'm glad more and people are looking into these phones. Really similar spec to phones that cost double or triple the price.

Got a Mi 5 and a Mi 6 for £180 and £280

We shouldn't be spending £800 on phones.

Unregistered is the safest.
I need to sort a newer mobile, currently using a Moto-X Gen2 with a 2.5 GHz quad-core ARM Qualcomm Snapdragon 801. How does the Mi A1 compare? I'm so lost when it comes to phone performance stuff

Hi does this have NFC

No, it doesn’t.
I've got the Redmi Note 4 already. Most of the specs are about the same, the only difference being a better screen but less battery power. So it's not going to last 2-3 days as the Note 4 currently does. Think i'll wait for a newer Xiaomi model

Your probably right am in the same boat but got this for my dad at Christmas. Think will get my daughter this too. This charges faster I believe. I think it's the better phone to be honest and worth the premium but the note 4 been so good can't justify. My daughter is coming from my original oneplus one. This is a bargain in my book.

You are forgetting your phone is running MUI and this has Stock Android. Big difference when it comes to overall user experience
Android 7.12. No nfc no wireless charging. No problems. Got mine from ebay during the 20% sale. Hong kong stock. Uk plug. Screen protector in the box
>>> Android 7.12.

Is supplied - but Oreo v8.0 for it was released before the end of 2017. And there has the Jan. security update since then - though not all regions as yet.

It does also have a better camera and USB c rather than micro USB
Fantastic budget phone got mine delivered yesterday from e global central UK without any issues in five days, with UPS for £160. Much more premium than the note 4 but that may be more bang for your buck if you get the 32gb for around £100 as it almost has the same specs. Anyway mine still hasn't received the Oreo update so waiting on that. But again brilliant phone
Oreo (8.0) started rolling out for the Mi A1 around Christmas, was put on hold for a short time and then resumed the roll-out on the 16th January.

How does this compare to the oneplusone original. I'm currently on that set and it has been a workhorse. Loved it. I never use the NFC so wouldn't miss it. I'm after a decent screen and camera.
If I was looking to buy a phone now this is what i'd get. It's more than enough for what the majority of people use a smartphone for.
Smaller bezels than the Pixel 2 at 1/4 the price lol
Really impress with my Redmi 5a Prime.

Check out my review and more!

Always read up about these phones, I've had a couple and the mic can be flawed, people can't hear you on other end

Great phone had mine for a couple of weeks still on 7.1.2 but will get latest updates as android one phone. Best bang for buck at this price point. Great camera really smooth and responsive. No stabilisation in video mode but rumours this will be sorted in an update

I bought one for my wife, so I can directly compare it to a Nexus 5 and a Galaxy S5 (which are of similar spec to your phone). On paper, it's not a big boost in CPU oomph. But in actual use it's quite fast. I think the 4GB of RAM makes a big difference for Android. It's not as fast as my Honor 8, but you wouldn't notice the difference 95% of the time. I think they're an *excellent* deal.
I have this phone, one of the best phones I've ever owned and cheapest too.

No NFC, if that matters to you.

On Oreo too, 8.0.0. Stick the pixel 2 launcher on it, and it's like a budget Pixel 2 phone!

I got the black model of this phone on a cheap pre-order deal last year (cost around £130 in the end) and it's fine however some apps are ridiculously slow on it. The Amazon app in particular is pretty much unusuable.

Other than that it's fine though. It gets updated very, very regularly and for the price you really can't complain. It basically is a budget version of the Pixel 2.

Cheaper here though and arguably a much better seller than GearBest when it comes to high value items: hotukdeals.com/dea…532

Near field communication. Used for stuff like making payments with Android Pay.

Think like an oyster card or contactless debit card

Let's you use android pay.
Cheers folks. Does it have a fingerprint scan thing? Or any of these?

Just I had the nexus 5x and it had one on the rear, and it's the only thing I really miss from my current xaomi 4a, which I've had a year and has been champion. I know the camera is not as good but not a big deal to me

It does yeah and it's on the back of it and seems to work 100% of the time as well which is sometimes hard to find even on Samsung phones.
xanoas7 m ago

Can you explain why?

Seems to stay away from prying eyes of customs people.

I have always went for standard unregistered post from the likes of these, ali express etc, and the stuff always arrives, it might take a while, but it gets here, and i've never had additional fees to pay on them.

Ooh that's tempting. Cheers. I do like pure Android as well.
