If people are concerned about the legalities of these scooters, just avoid the thread. I think we're all pretty clued up about these by now and if we should or shouldn't buy one. Mine's still on the long train from Hong Kong but when it arrives, I'm going to use a 'pretend' leg movement to make it look like I'm pushing it along and then I should be fine...

Seems a lot for what it is

I have one, I can attest to the high quality. The fact is, £300 gets you a bang average bicycle with absolutely basement Shimano or Microtech components.

Here, you get a mechanical disc, regenerative braking, an electric motor, high quality Aluminium chassis, lights, a bell, spare tyres and tubes and a 15 mile range at 15mph.

Everyone I've shown it to cannot believe the quality for the money. Great value; polished product.

I'm intrigued as to what people use these for - have things changed as I recall last year people saying that you can't ride these on the roads, nor on the footpaths?

I am also intrigued regarding the legalities of this, i.e what insurer will cover you if your involved in an accident as this is not deemed legal? Big risk to take especially in a city like London when you can protect yourself?

Na, I get that, people saying they've never been stopped by police, few say they have, I guess it's a risk, but still an (currently) illegal one.

Yeah, still illegal, hoping it changes.
MrSwitch09/07/2019 12:56

I'd be surprised unless the government can get some kind of money from taxes etc - seemed to be the general consensus last time.

As someone who cycles most places, I'm not sure I'd feel safe with these in the bike lanes and I'm sure drivers would moan if they were out in the main road. I know it's only 15mph, but your centre of mass is relatively high and those little wheels aren't gonna be great when they come into contact with the Great British potholes (as seen first hand by @888eyeball.

I see enough people coming off bikes - at least they have to peddle to get up to a speed where they're likely to take a heavy hit. I hope the guys riding these have a decent helmet cos I'm sure they're likely to get the same treatment from car/bus drivers (let's not mention cabbies) and pedestrians as cyclists do!
I see Halfords sell the slime stuff to put in the tyres, would they put it in for you ?

Also, I see the max weight of the user suggested is 100kg, any 110-120kg folk using these okay ?

Personally I would not use this on the busy roads in North London around me (I have seen some dodgy situations with these involved already, usually the careless scooter users fault), but would be great if travelling around ie down the coast, around parks, etc

There's loads around London now.

This is a very good price from a high street seller, my local store has pickup in one hour.

Nice one Mr Switch

3% Quidco too

I do that if I see a police car lol.
Just signed the petition too. I wouldn't mind if they had a basic usage test you had to pass, etc might stop a few nutters ( I saw a bloke riding his on a London Underground Platform the other day ..idiot)

This bit from the Standard Article shows just how messed up the situation is...

""" Mr Brown dismissed calls for a ban but said there was a need for riders “to be careful”.

At present, riders face a £300 fixed penalty notice and six points on their driving licence for using e-scooters on pavements or public roads. """

Closer to £400 than £300. I have a 3000W electric skateboard with wireless remote that didn't cost me much more than that and is nearly twice as fast but then I didn't buy one that's already branded and being resold. I'm sure it's fine for what it is, it's just that these things are 10 a penny without the motor, you could probably get the kit yourself like some do with bikes and save yourself 50%
shame its only max weight 100kg as me being at this weight probably will go nowhere at no speed on this scooter

I paid £280 from Halfords using a prior deal. This can be had for less using gift cards via a discounter (like your corporate schemes), but to settle the argument, let's say it costs £359.

Is it still value based on the quality of the product? Yes, in my view.

It sounds like you've never seen one, or ridden one, in which case I understand why you may hold your views. As an owner of one, they're decent value for what you're getting IMO and your comparison of non motorised models just doesn't hold up.

Glad you like it, seem to be good reviews out there, £280 is getting closer to the mark imo, just seems expensive to me that's all.

There is currently 13% discount on halfords through my employer scheme offered by edenred so it works out roughly £314 without the TCB cashback.

However to buy the gift certificate through edenred I can only pay using debit card and I think these gift certificates are non-refundable.

And what happens if you want to return the item back to halfords for some reason, do you get refunded to gift certificate and are you then stuck with the gift certificate to be used in halfords ?
Is it better to buy it from Halfords with 1 year warranty or from Pure scooters with 2? Which shop is better?

Avoid Halfords gift certificates/cards!
They can't be used to pay online, and they automatically expire after 24 months.
Have just come back from nice in the South of France . Electric scooters are everywhere and it’s amazing how many hundreds of People are using them to commute miles .

I saw them being used both on and off road particularly along the promenade de Anglais.
I couldn’t believe how fast they are .

There didn’t seem to be any issue over there . The pollution from vehicles In the hot weather was really high .

Cracking deal .
