I've been tempted by this phone for a while. At this price... I decided to take the plunge. Killer feature is undoubtedly the mammoth battery life... see the specs below.

There are a few colours available. You can also purchase the global version for about 2 quid more. They seem to be the same on paper, so I assume the only difference is the rom? Someone else may correct me on that. Link to global (black) version: gearbest.com/cel…tml

4g support may be lacking for some as it does NOT have band 20. As far as I'm aware, this means you should still be able to pick up 4g in most cities / urban areas with most networks, but you may be shifted back to 3g if not.

I've had the mi max 1 since December, fantastic phone, planning to get the V2 before the end of the year. Battery life is nuts, screen and build is fantastic, yet to find anything it can't do, love the Miui software. No band 20 but never cause me any issues getting good 4G, I'm on the BT (EE) network in rural Scotland. I'd be tempted with the global rom and make sure it comes factory sealed with the global rom.

Appreciate the useful info, but for me this phone was all about the large screen, huge battery and £120 cost (V1 price dec last yr. My eyesight can no longer cope with a 5.5" screen - in fact I'd probably still have bought this if I could only get 3G. Luckily I'm on BT and the 4G is really good where I live and work. My wife has the note 4, nice phone but the screen is too small for me.
the 6.44" screen was a bit of an experiment for me to see if I could cope with something as big as the mi max, so I didn't want to spend loads on one of the main manufacturer large phones.
its also opened my eyes to what you can get for a decent price, rather than the £600+ phones currently being offered by the main manufacturers.

in the same way you say band 20 is important, I'd counter that and say that other folk might have different priorities, but it's good to help everyone make an informed decision.

Good to hear. I'm based in Ireland, but I travel quite a bit. I believe band 20 is important here too, but I should still have 4G coverage in the cities.
I've had the Max 1 for about a year, been really good hardware wise but I hate MIUI with a passion. Don't want to risk it with Lineage, probably brick the thing!

The Max 2 has a slightly less powerful processor but if you want a big screen phone with decent specs you can't go wrong here.

I highly recommend this phone to anyone you will be amazed as how much phone you get for your buck.I now have a mi mix which is a flagship but this mi max 2 is not to be sniffted at.

I just put Lineage on my Mi Mix today its not very hard if you ready it through phone runs awesome with Lineage 14.1 oreo 15.0 is around the corner.
Great phone. Large screen, great battery life and feels solid. Given the size I'll send suggest getting a phone ring to use it without fear of dropping it. Xiaomi build quality is second to none and MIUI operating system is fine. A bargain at this price
These are on ebay for £198 from Ireland. Considering you'd pay VAT and customs on this makes it cheaper from Ireland.
@Pspvita I also have a Mi Mix, eager to see the specs of the Mix 2. I anticipate it'll wipe the floor with anything out at the minute.

Problem with Lineage is ongoing support for a specific model is patchy and you don't really have the ease of ota updates. Basically you need to be prepared for a enthusiast experience (bugs, glitches, technical stuff etc) and I'm not all that confident.

From that review

"Shipping is free (unless you opt for an express service), but you should factor into your budget import duty - you may be contacted before the phone is delivered and asked to pay 20 percent of the value on the shipping paperwork plus an admin fee of around £11."

Maybe different in Ireland? Most people I've talked to said they haven't been asked to pay VAT / customs / import duties. I think if you choose not to ship with DHL maybe it's likely to slide through?
i have this phone the global version in black paid 200 for it it's amazing in every way the screen the camera the battery the speakers the skin so many options.the snapdragon 625 is very underrated it's as powerful as you need people say it's a downgrade on the 650 in the first model but i don't agree as it manages heat better thermal throttling in the cpu and cpu so you get sustained performance.also the built quality is amazing it's high end.if you get the global version you have all google apps fully recommend this phone but please get a tempered glass screen protector and a decent case as the phone is slippy and difficult to handle
The global version should support band 20

The global version should support band 20

Global refers to the software, no mi max have B20.
Ordered mine from Gear Best a month or so ago when it was on offer... All I got was an empty box with the manual and plug converter. Took over 2 weeks and a lot of messages to them to get a full refund (they offered $120 to start of with!!). Had to raise a case with PayPal in which Wednesday I got an email saying we're still looking into it!!! I ordered it in the end from eBay for £220. Came within 4 days, signed for and still in the cellophane wrapping.
And 2 weeks on... What a phone! Went from a iPhone 6+ to this, and I'm not missing the 6 one bit! I wanted it primarily for watching films... But deary me, the emulators! Playing PS1 games with the graphics add-on is amazing! The screen is clear, customisable, just fantastic.
i'd advise to buy from eglobal comes within three days once they dispatch its sealed box and global version no added crap and i'd advise the black version it's by far the best looking and no black bars round the screen are noticable and it's on nougat 7.1 it costs around 200 once you factor in the code jbuy599 and tcb and no customs charge it's dhl drop shipment i've had five phones now off eglobal paid with paypal no problems at all
The original mi max never hand band 20. Not that it made any differnt to me on three,Vodafone, EE amazing company there making the next nexus then they will open up sales in europ starting in italy I do believe. If you want it go for it
They put a GLOBAL ROM on but didn't add Band 20, for that reason its a great phone but with a limitations.

We use three bands in the UK Band 3, 7, and 20
Different frequency bands have their own advantages and disadvantages. Lower frequencies like 800MHz (Band 20) are capable of transmitting over a wider area and are affected less by thick walls and buildings. Higher frequencies like 2600MHz (Band 7) can transfer data more quickly, but over a shorter distance.

So for most comprehensive cover you need band 20.

My advice is get a Global phone WITH band 20 instead

something like
Redmi Note 4 Global
I do have the 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM version but I got mine from Aliexpress. great phone, I get 5 days battery if I don't hammer it with Hearthstone.

Abstaining from voting as I cant justify hot and can't say its cold, its tepid

I have had a mi max (original) for 9 months. I get 4g everywhere on BT mobile and it's never been an issue.
Great phone, once you get used to the size it's a game changer. Granted it's not for everybody though.
Edited by: "daman2k" 8th Sep 2017
code jbuy599 brings it down to 209 plus you get top cash back
There's more to life than band 20
Love my mi max. Never let me down. Just caved in for a note 4 though. Will see which one I prefer and flog the other.
Have mi max. No band 20 haven't ever need it in London tbh I only just found out there's no band 20 on any mi max

Thanks. But it says it's a Chinese ROM. And changing it would void their warranty. Is there an intensively version on eGlobal?
yeh it does say that but it comes sealed with global rom

BT = EE I think, its a band 3 and 7 network if I remember correctly.

no i have had five items off them four phones and an ipad and all been perfect no problems but if you use paypal they will cover you for a good period of time i think it's a risk with any import from any site eglobal banggood gearbest geekbuying any of them really but at least with eglobal you get it usually within five working days by dhl drop shipment and you get no customs charge so if you want to import and take the risk you may as well use them instead of the others or just don't import
Anyone know the difference between global and international version?
You can often get this for around £170ish from AliExpress. I have the Mi Max 1 but have been looking at the Mi Max 2 recently.

Yes occasionally it's cumbersome carrying around a phone this big but I'm not sure that I could go back now. Even 5.5" phones look tiny by comparison.

Going through that process now. I have returned a Nexus 5x due to infamous bootloop issue (would never buy another LG as long as I live as they seem to have a history with this on their devices), return address was in UK. They have advised a 4 week turnaround and I can live with that. Fairly good communication from them, so no issues really so far.
