good price , however there are caveats to buying this thing.

Ive got one second hand and although the screen is idiotically good and its fast and its got loads of storage ive had some daft issues with it....

The ROM thats installed comes with MIUI 8.0/8.5, upgrading to MIUI 9 helps but its hard to navigate around, the usual menu layout isnt intuitive at all and some settings are basically hidden under headings you cant understand, its not a simple task to set the screen timeout for instance... and apps require specific permission to show notifications etc, individually having to assign these permissions is a pain, the built in launcher is next to useless too. I had to install Nova Launcher ( free ) just to be able to get to some stuff i couldn't locate with the built in one, however after about a week of tweaking and playing around i have to say, this phone is one of , if not THE, best out there right now. I combatted the poor front camera performance by downloading a better camera app, it seems to have done the job and now i have this set up as i like it its become one of my favourite things, it does everything super fast, the storage is huge ( 256gb max) and i have no more issues with it.

Its still a very rare thing and im always being asked what it is, most people confuse it with the iPhone X!

For this price its worth the risk of customs getting charged, amazing handset just not for the novice as it takes some fettling to get the best out of it...

HEATY!

Looks like the Doogee Mix 2, name is a bit of coincidence

What about battery life?

Honestly, and I'm not trying to plug my own thread, but I'd prefer the aftersales reliability of buying from Amazon Spain should anything go wrong. It's not much more expensive either.

Got one coming from Spain - does Nova help remove all the MIUI quirks or is there still some adjustments/compromises to make? Is it possible to flash a stock ROM onto it (although I'd rather not root and flash unless absolutely necessary, got bored with tinkering years ago).

As for the camera, can you get the Google Camera app running on it? I'd imagine this would help get the most out of the decent sensor.

I'm getting about 1.5 day use, if i leave it just sitting there not doing much i get about 5% drain over the whole day with the screen off, even using it a lot during the evening im getting down to 80%, its a really good battery - my only issue is that if you kill off a particular app you dont get notifications from it until you go back into it, not much of an issue as the battery is so good

Nova launcher sorted out my main issues however you still have to mess with MIUI 9 and thats not easy as the settings are a bit confusing, its not a standard layout, i did have to tinker to get it working as i liked but once thats done your away, i would say this, make sure you put your main sim in slot one as getting contacts to show up is a right pain if in slot 2...

Cheers. I wasn't planning on using both sim slots but I might stick my work one in for the hell of it since they're dragging their feet in giving me an upgrade. Having never used a multi-sim phone before, can you tell which sim is being called when it rings? Likewise, is it simple to choose which sim to make a call/text from? I wouldn't want them getting mixed up and I start getting billed for the wrong stuff on the wrong number

I've only used one Sim,however there is a menu item for dual sims to allow management, looks simple enough to use..and you can check the metering of internet separately for each sim, so im assuming that you can differentiate between sims once they're installed...

I've ordered another Xiaomi phone Mi note 2, international version from gearbest. When it arrives do I still input UK as my country for future updates etc. Previous posts seem to suggest putting India. Is nova launcher the best out there for overriding miu. Which camera app you said is better than Xiaomi's inbuilt one. I'll be grateful for any other tips. It's my first Chinese phone. Thanks

Even if you select UK for the country you still have quite a bit of Chinese stuff to get through, i swopped out my keyboard for Swiftkey too, Nova Launcher is just easier to manage than the stock launcher however you still have to cope with MIUI 9 as thats the default app for viewing the settings menu etc, if you cant find a setting just interweb it, thats what i did and now im managing just fine, playstore sometimes gets errors however its running a lot more stable now for me, TBH any camera app will work good, i used a google one, it did improve the performance however i am given to understand that Xiaomi are pushing out an update soon to remedy its mediocre performace

theres a few out there called "mix", they all seem to be much lower specs but a quarter of the price.. maybe worth the risk before buying this thing?

Spend £500 on GearBest?!! Thanks but no thanks!!

Xiaomi led the way with their first 'Mix' phone with all sorts of fancy technology included. The Mix 2 is simplified in some respects and more like a regular phone (albeit a very high-spec one), but all the other Chinese manufacturers are passing off their cheap copies of the Mix using the same name to try and trick buyers into thinking they are similar. Xiaomi have a pretty much unparalleled level of support for their old phones in comparison to these cheaper competitors who don't have the resources to keep supporting them. You might well get a decent enough 'Mix' phone from another manufacturer, but it will only have a fraction of the performance of the Xiaomi device and the camera or software support is likely to be really crummy in comparison.
