I'm on Mix 2 for over a year, you think is worth going for it? I really want my next phone to be waterproof but the camera ingenuity on this makes it very tempting

The global version bought from China yes! Haha UK prices will be horrendous, the mix 2s is still £519 in most places.

Agreed, I'll never buy a phone in the UK again I don't think
@Mrswitch any chance you could post battery capacity in the op mate? Battery is most important feature on a phone. Might be other people as well. Thanks

Don't blame you, that's the one thing grinding in the back of my mind.
Where is the front facing camera on this phone?
Chinese version was £429 (after currency conversion) from Mi store in Shanghai two weeks ago so this is a HOT price for a truly stunning phone. When I first saw this I was assured this was going to be my next phone, however, after having seen some of the reviews around the wobbly sliding mechanism I think I'm going to wait until the Honor Magic 2 is released? Any comment from experts on that would be appreciated...

Honor magic 2 right now cheapest is over £600

Though the battery on that is 3500mah, how can they fit one that big, and xiaomi can't, yet they can put a 4000mah in the note5!

Simply baffling.

I agree that battery capacity does have a huge impact when choosing a smartphone, however I've just moved from an original Mi MIX with a 4400 mAh battery to the Mi Mix 3 - that's got a 3200 mAh. On paper this would have a huge impact, however in reality I'm getting about the same usage time on the Mix 3 as I did with the Mix 1 (heavy user, video streaming and then use the device for app testing).

I guess software optimisation and more efficient processors and other components are to thank for this.

How's the phone, and slider in general?
They need to slim their line up. Might email them but no point really. Have 3 phones.

The flagship killer which is £500 cheaper than other flagships but matches them performance wise.

The long laster. Perfect for women.
Great specs and 5/6000 mah battery with Snapdragon for longest battery life in the market.

The up North phone. Cheap and cheerful bargain phone with 4gb ram and Snapdragon for under £100.
(Don't worry I'm from up north)

The phone itself is great. Front and back cameras are great (a huuuuge improvement over the Mi Mix 1, but I believe the Mix 2s and the Mi 8 Pro have the same setup as the Mi Mix 3 also - so there's plenty of sample images and videos out there for anyone interested).

Build quality is standard Xiaomi - outstanding. Mine has no slider gap which is something people have reported.

Wireless charger and a case is included which is a very nice touch.

The slider is great fun - can't stop fidgeting with it. However you'll find yourself blowing 'pocket fluff' and dust out of the slider and earpiece a few times a day when you open it.

Battery life is great so far - it's somehow on-par with my Mi Mix 1. I imagine this is down to efficiency. The Mix 1 used to run pretty hot so was obviously wasting that huge battery capacity.

As for Google apps (Gapps) - google services are pre-installed, all you need to install is the Play Store and any other Google apps that you use. I've got Calendar, Contacts, Google Pay, Youtube, Play Store, all working properly.

How easy is it to install all that gubbins?

As far as I know, the Magic 2 doesn't have wireless charging. The Mix 3 does - which will obviously consume some of the space that was available for the battery. The 2 phones are incredibly similar but the notable extra feature on the Magic 2 is the in-display fingerprint sensor. A nice touch but I am perfectly happy with the rear fingerprint sensor of the Mix 3 (i'm used to it and think it's much more natural than in-display or front mounted.)

Was very straight forward... You download the ZIP file in this forum post: en.miui.com/thr…tml

Unzip it, copy the apps to the phone and find them in the built in file manager to install them.

There are other ways of doing it too, but that was easy enough.

Apart from the google play scanario what elese should I consider before buying this from a non-global point of view.

Also, hwo are geekbuying for customs?

Ooohhh... No Wireless charge and No band 20 makes it a tougher choice between these two than I first thought. The Mix 3's fingerprint reader being on the back is also preferred by me so I'm now in a pickle.

So far I haven't found anything that's made me regret getting the China (non-global) version.

The only minor thing is that the Mix 3 has a 'dedicated AI button', which you hold and speak (in mandarin) to an assistant... This currently can't be changed to the google assistant (as far as I know, I've tried for a while and given up). The AI is for the China market only.

This really isn't a big thing for me - it's purely a gimmick anyway in my opinion, plus the google assistant works on it's own anyway.

Also, another thing to note: a short while ago Xiaomi announced that some of their phones purchased for the Chinese market aren't able to have Global ROMs installed on them - I don't know of the Mix 3 is affected by this, but the Chinese ROM is perfectly fine for me.
Hmmm, this or the 6T???

Hard choice! I'd go this personally for me, though I like the 3700 battery on the 6t

Not really no, haven't really been interested in the honor because it's so expensive.
Hmm. Okay, because under comparison the Mi Mix 3 has a lot of flaws. I was stuck on this phone, but the comparison has me thinking otherwise.

But if you are getting this phone, which variant would you get because I know there's a 6GB/8GB/10GB RAM versions
Also @Mrswitch , idk if you are able to find someone, but in Hong Kong, they're selling the Honor Magic 2, 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage for £450, not sure if this gives you some hope on the Honor pricing

I swore this would be my next phone, but it'll probably just be the lowest variant, like u say, the magic 2 isn't even on my radar, xiaomi have got me, and I csnt get out haha
