Not really fussed for 5g just now, by the time it's more mainstream there will be more phones out.

I take it this is better than the m9t pro? Considering pulling the trigger on this looks lovely.

Camera and battery life, performance will be better on the pro

Ye same here

Are they discontinuing them or something? It seems to be the device that's so low on stock that nobody has to put a good deal on for them..?

The Mi9T Pro has been cheaper in most cases and that's the one that most perceive as being the 'better' device given that notchless stuff..?

Me though, I'm after the Mi9 for its IR Blaster and Wireless charging...

To be honest I don't game on my phone or do any video editing. Nothing bar the basic browsing and social apps. I still think my pocophone is lightening quick.

This is for the other half, she wants an S10 plus but this in a nice case would be just as good I think.

Unless you can recommend anything comparable circa £300?

Na the mi 9 Pro is the better phone, now it has that upgraded battery, I posted a deal a whiles back, but they seem to have disappeared since then

There are loads at that price from refurbs to new, the honor view 20 and honor 20 being just two
The Xiaomi seem to be the new Huawei.

Aye, they are virtually the same phone
Ah yes a totally necessary and not overkill 108MP camera... never heard such rubbish. Unless you enjoy eating up all your memory with ridiculously oversized photos I cant see any reason to buy this

Cheers, was about to buy but just saw neither support wireless charging which is a deal breaker for me (too many wireless charging points in my house). The hunt goes on!

No, I don't even know if it's getting an EU release, maybe just China for this particular phone.

Yea take dxo scores with a grain of salt, they're paid by reviews.
not keen on the way phones keep getting heavier and narrow
If I didn't have the Oppo 10x I would be tempted

Also some manufacturers are fiddling with software before sending test phone to DXO (reference to Xiaomi mi8)...

It was a meaningless score then and it’s a meaningless score with this phone too. My opinion on this is that it’s best to avoid taking DXOmark’s opinion altogether and either try for yourself or listen to an opinion you trust, such as a particular reviewer.

Kinda agree but it's a reasonable indicator of camera capabilities.

I don’t think it is, based on personal experience. The tests are too ‘plastic’ and they make an average phone seem better than a great phone in many cases. If anything it can lead to people picking up an inferior phone for their use case.

I wonder how long before Mr Trump gets involved and bans all Chinese smartphones, that's the reason I'm holding back with future Huawei phones.

DXOMark have very impressive methdologies in terms of testing, however as bias and data fudging is not controlled for, their scores are not verifibly and scientifically sound and personally I find their number rating system all but meaningless in respect of these significant flaws.
This is a very interesting phone, because the camera system is cutting edge and definitely a flagship system, however it's coupled with a distinctly average and midrange SOC. I've read some reviews whereby they question the logic somewhat of coupling an advanced camera system with an SOC that underperforms in terms of the processing tasks required to make the camera system fluid and quick in response. Perhaps XIaomi can refine the software. It's certainly exceptional to have a camera system like this on a midrange phone. The reason the Pixel range of phones are so well reviewed in terms of their cameras, is not so much the hardware, the Pixel 4 uses the same sensor as the Pixel 3 for example, but in terms of the cutting edge image processing and dedicated hardware image processing built in to the phone.

If Xiaomi and it's a big if because there are nowhere near leaders in AI optimisation of photo imaging, can make the software optimisations then this camera system on this phone is likely to underperform in terms of it's realistic capabilities. Which doesn't mean you won't get fantastic photos from this phone, it just means coupled with the resources Google and Sony have even more could be eeked out of this camera system. I have read recently that Sony are putting much effort in to AI image processing and we should expect better results from their future phones. Certainly many Sony sensors are used in flagship phones these days. Software optimisation is absolutely necessary in this modern age of electronics.

Let's face it Google Pixel phones are very average, the selling point is the camera and software experience. Pixel phones get the best Android software experience and the benefit of Google's vast machine learning resources.
