Is that an old chip? Would've liked 855!

Is a new chip, very few phones using it yet. Performs well, slightly less than SD845 but more power efficient
Second only to Mate 30 Pro on DXO review and highest ever video performance. Think I've just found my next phone when UK spec is released

It was announced today.

It's more for easier moving between phones (only when I upgrade though, every couple of years or so) and if I need to transfer photos from a DSLR to my phone for uploading on holidays. Both pretty rare things so it's not the end of the world!I have 100GB on Google One for £1.59 a month. Looking at their prices I can't see anything like what you have - 2TB is £7.99 and 30TB is £239.99! No unlimited. If I could get unlimited for £6 I would, but I guess it's no longer an option?

See above for Gsuite. £6.26 I pay, so a slight lie on my side apologies!

Re storage for moving between phones etc, you can often use wi-fi but I guess there's always a need not met.

For phone upgrades, many now move from old to new via WiFi transfer.

Just a note to say that the launch has just happened (Is Happening?), and reviews/hands on are literally coming out now- This 11 mins ago:

I'll wait for some proper reviews, and hopefully a reasonable UK price, personally.

Reviews popping up on YouTube if anyone interested..[Video]

Checked the review, and it looks great. If only they charged £100 more and added wireless charging and 855 chipset, it would have killed it.

Sounds like you've got a good deal worth holding onto.

I've looked at prices and their basic offering is 30GB for £4.14. Business is £8.28 per user with unlimited storage but only for 5+ users - if you have less than 4 users it's only 1TB each).

Gaaghhh, no wireless charging? Dealbreaker! Back to looking for P30 Pro deals, then

Is it too much to ask for a P30 Pro with a headphone jack?...

First time they get the cameras spot on , they compromise with a lower processor and Speakers and few other bits .
I may have given this a go if It had the 855 and better speakers .
But great improvements in the camera .
Hot deal but could of been so much better .

Op7t may be better
Keep rolling Xiaomi with these batteries, 5260mAh !
Looks to me like an interesting new trend. Give one single topmost performing feature at a near mid range price.
The battery looks near topend too.

I'd imagine the amazon.es placeholders will be up this week for this then going by their announcement
Its not really a 108mp camera though. Its a quad 27mp camera that then stitches the image together. Over 1 sensor

Yup
Its a quad-bayer sensor so bit like super sampling. Or hdr cameras. Multiple images overlayed to make 1 whole photo
This makes very very interesting timing.
Dxomark finally publish the iPhone 11 Pro camera benchmark tomorrow.
So we now get a David versus Goliath.

I predict a near draw.

Want!
Mr whose the boss was pretty impressed with the camera, but said performance on this particular version was lacking.

All that means to me is, this phone is for those that want a camera more than a work tool.

When you say work tool, what do you mean exactly?

Other than high end games for example, what advantages (and in what situations) will the Pro with the 855 have over this one do you think?

He said it seemed quite slow in places, no sd slot etc. They had to cut corners somewhere I guess.

855 will have more power, quicker to process photos I'd guess, on the review, the photos took a while to process, and zooming in seemed to take forever, with the 855 maybe that will all get ironed out.

You had me intrigued, so I looked into it. Best explained, though still a bit funny, here:

bbc.co.uk/new…665

So it is a full 108 million pixels, and you can indeed, if you like, get an image comprises of data from each and every pixel. But the default mode is to group them into 4's, where each 4 has the same colour filter. This means you can collect more light, using what is effectively a virtual pixel- One individual colour measurement (So imo that should really only count as one pixel), but collecting ~4 times as much light. I'm unsure why this would be better than simply using hole pixels four times the size? As the article says, the full 108MP option allows you to use the pixels independently, for true 108MP capture.

It's worth noting that there's a number of other things going on with this sensor- It's architecture, and inbuilt features (presumably on-chip), give a number of advantages, beyond just the sheer number of pixels. See the Samsung product pages;
news.samsung.com/glo…nes

samsung.com/sem…MX/

The main thing, to me, looks like the addition of physical isolation between pixels, to prevent what they call color-cross-talk between pixels- but ye, effectively bleed/leak/EM interference pixel to pixel. Seems obvious that this would prevent noise, or at least the spread of it, but I suppose the proof is in the pudding. DXO remarks in the BBC article.

Shit, back to woooooork....

That seems back to front as by default it works the opposite way which is to take all the 108mp and then using qquadbayer algorithm choose best pixels to output a 27mp image. So it is true 108mp but by default outputs smaller 27mp images unless tasked to output 108mp.

Here you go; if they've got rid of the loophole now, I can only apologise, but it did work really well! (still does for me)

Looks like a bunch of files were deleted recently, so I am back to just under 2TB. I upload from Photos in original quality and dump my lightroom images into a sync'd folder - use another free account for email. I used to have a 200GB card in my Max 3, but it made photos slow to save. The Mi 9T with 128GB is good, but with large image sizes, I'm itching for a 256GB/512GB next year!

Likely it adjusts to light, so nighttime will only ever be a 27mp picture. However in bright daylight 108mp is a better option, ignoring the massive file size.

All we need now is a good budget A1 printer.

Normal shooting mode will not resolve at 108MP resolution; it will pixel bin down. Just like the 48MP on others etc. You'll be able to do 108MP mode however as an option, but it won't look as sharp.
