Damnit not the global version, never picked up on that. No band 20 but still alot of phone for the price
Edited by: "Kenneth131" 7th Apr
This is the standard version which is not 800Hz Band 20, the only model with the 37 bands, is the 6gb 128gb model, which is a lot more, just in case anyone thinks this version is it
This is not the global version, this is the 4gb /64gb version flashed with international rom supporting 19 bands. The only global version is 6gb /128gb and supports 37 bands so you will not have band 20 in UK.
If band 20 is not a problem for you it is a lot of phone for the price so heat from me

This is a brilliant phone for the money. Camera is pants but apart from that it’s awesome

Why buy one with Chinese TD-SCDMA+TDD-LTE+CDMA bands which are not used in Europe and take a gamble ?
This phone is not made to use here, don't push your luck and regret later.

It has band's 1 (2100) 3 (1800) 7 (2600) for 4g which are the main 4g bands in UK so only missing band 20 so only a major problem if you use O2 or its piggyback users like tesco, gifgaf, sky and a minority of places on other networks and thats only for 4g 3g is no problem on any network
I’m looking for your advice. Currently got a iPhone 5s been meaning to upgrade for literally years just never got round to it. Always admired the look of Xiaomi phones, what phone would you recommend for sub £200?

From all the information I can see, most carriers use band 20 and band 20 is the best frequency in use for 4G (800MHz is a low freq so travels further, clearer and through walls better than higher freq). Whether or not it affects someone depends on their location and network, but generally it's a bad idea to assume you won't get a poorer service with a phone missing the best LTE band.

Yes you are correct they all use band 20 but apart from O2 and their piggybacks it is not the other networks main band.I am on tesco (O2) and have a MI6 with no band 20 and so where i live i get no 4G but it is not a problem as it uses HSPA+ which is a lesser form of 4g for internet and is no problem much faster than 3g or HSPA .If people are concerned just download LTE discovery off play store and check what band you are currently using for 4G

Do you know how many people have imported Chinese phones in this country?
I have never had a Chinese import that didn't work or Not pick up.a 4G signal.
If you can't 4G on one of these phones has the thought never occurred to you the you should change networks.

It's the best phone I've seen out there for this kind of money and you are guaranteed updates for at least couple of years.

Sub £200 Xiaomi then your loking at this one.
Check your network banding to see if this device has what you need.
The SD 821 is more than capable in 2018 and compared to what's in your iP5, light years ahead.
Seen as Miui takes design cues from IOS, the transitions should be easier than moving to stock android.

The SD 636 is a lower midranged SOC and is way off the SD 821, now if you said the SD660 I would agree.
The best Redmi Note is the 5 Pro, coming from an iPhone (even though it's a 5s) i wouldn't recommend anything lower.
The 5 Pro's dual camera is ridiculously good for its price segment.
If this had B20 I'd agree, the 821 is a decent soc and better than a 636. I'm unaware of any 660 or higher (14nm or less) for less than £200 with 4gb ram and all the UK LTE bands.

This had 20 thing lol, unless you live in rural area band 20 is not essential.
Infact 4G in this country is pretty poor in comparison to most of the modern world.
There are still plenty of areas where you still get better 3G signal than 4G.
I for one would not be buying a budget 636 over a 821 flagship , I would rather take the unlkely hit on 4G than on the overall performance and quality of the device.
They just ain't in the same class in any aspect to can think of.
No OLED
No fastcharge( only 10w )
No NFC
No Type C
No SUB 3.0
No EIS on 4K
No auto focus on the front cam
No premium build
No 24 bit Dac
Better rear cam
Better ergonomics
Missing sensors
And the list goes on.
That's a lot to pass on based on the theory that band 20 is essential, when it isn't.

Reasonable summary. Would be interested in your data for it mostly affecting rural areas. I wouldn't buy this or the one I linked (I would if what was linked was £50 cheaper).

Thanks for your advice, if there was a bit more budget would you advise a newer model that 100% is worth the upgrade over this one? I’ve used Samsung phones before so familiar with the OS anyway.

Going away from Xiaomi is there any phone you take over this one for the price range?

Thanks

I wouldn't recommend sending too much money to China, so really that leaves you buying something from the high street. Personally, buying today, I like the Nokia 6 (@ £150), though if you want a better processor then the Nokia 8 can be had for sub £300. If you can hold off a couple of months, get a Nokia 7 Plus in the first deal that makes it basically £300, or the newer versions of the ones I have already mentioned. There are of course many other brands; Honor 9 Lite has good mentions... The benefit to Android is the sheer volume of choice. Personally I would buy cheap and just enough to fulfill your needs until such time you can buy exactly what you want.

You can still come in budget with the Honor 7x which has good performance at the price.
If you can push up towards £300
Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
Nokia 8
The LG G6 price are faiing again with the G7 about to arrive.
My No.1 choice of those would be the MIX 2, bling and performance all in 1 package.

Thanks everyone for your advice. Like I’ve said previously I currently run a iPhone 5s, considering I use my phone a lot I really do just need a quick upgrade to something that will be a considerably jump from the 5s. I don’t really fancy waiting up to 2 months by the sound of it from aliexpress, decisions decisions 🙈🙈

Yeah, hold off until after UK release, unless you like to live dangerously. I don't think there are any 660 or 636 SoC in UK sold phones, so the Nokia 7 Plus release is a big deal in that respect. I'd have still recommended the Nokia 6 as the phone to get if you were itching to buy something today, yeah the SoC is its bottleneck, but other than that it's premium (and I guess would resell well) but now you'd have to find a CPW store with it in stock as it's discontinued online.

Click bait dude and you fell for it.

How many CPU's do Intel and AMD make with different clock speeds are they the same?
