Just spotted this on the Global Mi Store on AliExpress, seems like an excellent price for the 128GB model which is usually around £255 for the black version. The phone has just about everything you could want aside from an AMOLED display and RGB notification light.

For those who aren't familiar, the Mi Note 3 comes with 128GB of storage, 5.5" 1920x1080 IPS display, a solid dual-camera setup that produces great images at this price-range and even an IR blaster. The Snapdragon 660 is of course more than capable and offers great battery efficiency.

TopCashback are also offering another 4.5% so that gives another £10 off, making it £213. (Excluding potential import charges, which from past experience is unlikely when choosing the free shipping option!)

I bought the ZTE Axon 7 from AliExpress in August last year and I honestly wish I had waited for this phone instead.

I'm tempted but some of the spec on the note 2 is better. E.g higher res screen and slightly bigger. So unsure which one

You forgot about that the Note 2 is higher end in terms of specs
I also hate my axon 7 with a passion. Voted hot, great phone but its global rom that puts me right off.

I don't hate the Axon 7 but it's disappointing for sure. Most of the problems are due to the software. I'm a bit of a techie and have a custom ROM installed which makes it considerably more bearable, but you loose the ZTE camera app with manual controls and there are various other issues also. Unfortunately none of the Oreo custom ROMs are stable with encryption and so I have to stop on Nougat for the time being. There is an official update to Oreo coming out next month in April which should solve most problems, but with this being ZTE I don't hold out much hope on getting a 100% stable OS.

They're both great phones, but the Mi Note 3 could be considered better at this price due to the 128GB storage and better camera. I'm not entirely sure which one lasts longer on battery because the Mi Note 2 has an extra 570mAh battery capacity, whereas the Mi Note 3 has a more efficient Snapdragon 660 SoC.

I have this phone and was a little concerned about the SD660 but needn't have worried. Its taken everything I've thrown at it and not lagged once. Camera is great, as is the battery. I took it off charge at 7 this morning, cained it all day and its still on 60%. I think it's worth noting though, that this isn't an official Xiaomi store, as they don't sell through AliExpress.

I'm seriously considering it. My Axon 7 is alright but there are so many problems and niggles that spoil the experience, both with the software and hardware. For example, the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner that obviously can't be accessed whilst the phone is on a desk and the tiny capacitive buttons that aren't illuminated. (Trying to use the phone in the dark is a nightmare because the capactivie buttons are invisible!) The battery drains quickly too, probably due to the combination of the SD820 and 1440x2560 display in combination with a somewhat disappointing 3100mAh capacity.

My only problem with the Mi Note 3 as I mentioned in the OP is the lack of an RGB notification light. If it wasn't for this I would've bought one already. I found the RGB light to be handy on my OnePlus One and LG G4 because you could set each colour to a specific app. Do you have any experience with custom ROMs and the development community for the Mi Note 3?

Thanks for the heads-up about this store not being official Xiaomi, I have made a slight adjustment to the OP to correct this.

Sorry, just seen this. No, I don't use custom roms anymore as I'm happy with MIUI. Although, it was messing with Custom roms that got me to MIUI, and xiaomi in the first place. Do you mean a notification Led? The Mi Note 3 has this, its to the right of the earpiece. This is a cracking deal. I've had mine for about 4 months and I paid about £40 more than this. Mine had the Chinese rom as well. Oh, and at the moment, the facial unlock feature isn't in the global rom. Not sure anyone's bothered, but it might be in the imminent MIUI 9.5 update.

Thanks for the response. I was indeed referring to the notification light, although my point was that the Mi Note 3 does not have RGB colours, in other words it is restricted to just white illumination for messages.

I actually flashed MIUI 9 onto my Axon 7 the other day and it is a lot more bearable than I had expected. I am usually extremely fussy when it comes to software but MIUI doesn't appear to be too bad on the face of it. Software is definitely better than the other Chinese manufacturers like ZUK (ZUI), ZTE (MiFavor) and Meizu (FlymeOS)

Ah, I get you. I've never noticed the colour of the led to be honest just that it's there. I really like MIUI, but the only one of the others you mentioned that I've tried was flyme, and I nearly bought a meizu phone. I'm glad I didn't.
Is the cAmera better than the Redmi
Missing Band 20 (800 MHz) which is extremely important while commuting etc.
I have this phone and it really is very good, great build quality, fantastic camera better than most phones more than double it's price, the big win for me though is the battery. I'm a heavy user and the battery is just superb.
The lack of headphone socket was a bit of a chew, it doesn't come with USB c headphones and you will need a case (it does come with one but it's a bit naff), the back of the phone is quite slippy.
Very nice price voted hot.

Does anyone know how bright the notification LED is please? Had a Honor 7x for a short while and the notification light was tiny and dim and it's a really important feature for me...

Thanks
Have one, bought the 64 gb version on a deal from another chinese site for about 200 pounds 3 months ago. Great phone all. I'm on Three and lack of B20 is not an issue. Battery lasts a good 1-2 days, camera is pretty decent and screen quality is good. S660 is a good chipset and is not that far off in terms of day to day performance from the 835. If I had any complaints it would be that the speakers on this are pretty average.

Yes and if you root the phone, install the Google Camera port, the picture quality will be better than the stock camera app.

I had the ZUK Z2 and that phone also had the same problem. The notification LED was like a pinprick and it was hard to see unless you were looking straight towards the front of the phone. Rather inconvenient.
