No thunderbolt 3 on these which means they're not really for "pros", but they're certainly good bang for your buck if you don't need that feature.
Is it safe spending this about of money at Gear Best? It’s ok risking £100-£200 in a phone but £600plus . What are they like if you had a faulty laptop after 2 months ? I bought a onda v10 tablet and it’s pretty good for the money but no risk at £70 .
Bought it for 700 euro from Lightinthebox on Friday and there is 10.5% back off TopCashBack which makes it a lot cheaper than GearBest. Had previously ordered it off Geekbuying but my order was taking weeks to send so I cancelled it. The total amount included shipping, insurance and customs insurance so if I get charged customs (which will almost be 100% likely) I will get runfunded that amount. So the total I paid when I get cashback is roughly 560/570 pounds delivered after cashback.

I would say avoid Gearbest at all costs, if you have any problem their support is useless. Mine took almost 2 month to arrive, by the time it did, it was worth a lot less than when I ordered it. They refused to refunded me and their usual answer was to check the tracker in 5 to 7 business days...

Not strictly true. The product is under warranty with Xiaomi but as they are not officially selling it in the UK/EU, you’ll have the hassle of shipping back to China in case it develops a fault during the warranty period.

I’ve bought this laptop (and a few other things) from GearBest and they have all arrived within the stated delivery period with no issues. It’s a great laptop and you really get bang for your buck in terms of design and performance compared to what you would spend for an equivalent Dell/HP laptop.

If you’re going ahead and buying, I would recommend you use PayPal or a credit card should the worse happen.

UK-serviced warranty gained via S75 direct payment to merchant via credit card. No requirement to contact merchant ever again once the credit card payment has been made.
I bought a £300 LG phone in the UK. It developed the infamous bootloop, UK customer support, totally useless, they took 52 days to fix my phone.

I've bought bulbs, action cameras, drones, one phone and other bits from these Chinese websites, so far they have been great.

Xiaomi are one of the better manufacturers when it comes to tech stuff. Great price too!

Extra messing? I'd rather mess in UK rather than mess with China, lol. Most peeps would find it easier to deal with a UK-based organisation rather than a Chinese-based organisation, and credit card payment / S75 provides the UK-based servicing obligation.

Only bought it on Friday due to the delay with Geekbuying. Should be shipped tomorrow and delivered in about a week.

I paid for 3-4 days Express Shipping when it was on 24hrs dispatch, still took 2 weeks to arrive. Was hit with £113 import duty via DHL which they refunded as I had paid for the import duty insurance. TCB did not track so lodged a missing cashback claim, still waiting on it, not hopeful.

Lightinthebox
just bought one, lets see, reviews look good, debated for a while and my macbook will almost pay for it.
Guan4 h, 20 m ago

Lightinthebox

Thanks bought it via them too! Just got it shipped today. Unfortunately my TCB didn't track either and looking at reviews it takes some people up to a year to get paid out! Looks like a great laptop though.
Guan4 h, 20 m ago

Lightinthebox

Mine arrived today via DHL. Very impressed with build qual so far, nit had chance to do anythinv yet but shall reformat tonight and stick clean win 10 on.

Incidentally, purchased customs insurance, but no duty to pay on door, so did ok, one less thing to worry about.

Had to contact TCB about cashback and lodge a claim....
Not buying from Gearbest again. Still waiting on the phone I bought 2 weeks ago. Its with DHL for Customs evaluation. Gearbest have seemingly under valued the device and it being held pending investigation.
Looks to be showing up as £706, has the price gone up or is there a code that needs to be used?

Received it yesterday man. Took exactly a week to post here but was delayed over the weekend due to Irish customs. They shipped it on Tuesday and was in Dublin by Friday so very fast shipping. I got charged 187 euro on the customs but since I paid insurance against that I opened a ticket with LightIntheBox and a few hours later they responded stating they they have already processed the refund. The service from them is top class compared to geekbuying which was a horrible experience. The laptop itself is quality. Really got for 700 euro delivered. My 10.5% topcashback didn't track, probably because I paid in euro but I opened a ticket to resolve that for an extra 60 pounds back. From reviews on topcashback it looks like untracked purchases take ages to resolve so hopfully it tracks for you.

Thanks for the response. Just bought the 16GB version. Paid in USD as currency is much better in Monzo. I asked to TCB if it is OK to use USD and they confirmed it is. They also said if it won't track, I can ask them as you did. Let's hope it will track. Thanks again.

For the dispute on the customs tax did you have to show a receipt or any proof of this, also were you able to pay via PayPal and add the customs insurance later in the order?

Did you pay with credit card or Paypal?
I take it you had to pay the customs charge first then claim the refund? Did they refund to the same payment method you paid with?
Did you buy an AC USB adapter for the charger?

I received my one today (i7 16GB model). I paid with Paypal. When it arrived to London (one day after shipped), DHL sent me an SMS saying that I need to pay customs fee from their website. I sent the screenshot of that SMS to LITB customer service using their link in order details for customs. They refunded back to Paypal. LITB added a converter inside the package so I didn't need to buy anything else. My one also didn't track on TCB and I created a ticket.

I gave order on Thursday evening and it was shipped on Friday morning already. It arrived to London on Saturday. TCB says I should wait 7 days before raising a ticket but I raised anyway as there was no activity. I think you shouldn't expect to get TCB to make buying decision. It will be a bonus if you receive.

Processing the refund now. Must say that’s good service. Laptop is now in London. Think you’re right it’ll arrive before Monday!
Well it turned up today! Only got it out of the packaging but bloody hell the thing is lovely looking. Feels extremely premium. Hopefully have chance tomorrow to get windows sorted and have a go with it!

Thank you all for the help I think it’s proven very useful!

EDIT: managed to sort the laptop to English. Pretty easy! Shame the office won’t register but never mind. Excellent laptop I’m very pleased!
