Xiaomi Mi Gateway gearbest.com/liv…tml or the Aqara camera hub.
Edited by: "Canali44" 28th Jan
I got one last time still not sure how I can make it useful but it was cheap.
Ordered
I don't have the gateway but I'll keep accumulating stuff on the cheap until I do. Cheers
I keep getting the coupon has reached its number usage limit
Mind, this is the first gen, and the 2nd gen has been cheaper with a code, eg £4.12 last time round. But the round shape is nicer then the square 2nd gen.

Or until you can a Smartthings hub at a discount again.
can someone provide a link to the hub,so I know what it is I need to buy. Are there different types of hubs? and how would I review the temperature data? I would need to do it away from home
I will wait for promo on the square version of this

eg One of these (and an Australian -UK plug adapter - eg £1 from Poundland)
gearbest.com/ala…tml
coming up at £17.25 for me at the moment (but was more when I first looked!)
Oops - that's the discontinued version there

Spotted one on AliExpress at £19.xx - no idea if this is best buy currently, just an example for you
aliexpress.com/ite…tml
(Probably best to get a proper fused plug adapter in UK, and NOT a potential 'deathtrap' one from China.)

The MiHome App lets you monitor the temp/humidity from anywhere with an Internet connection - ie a link to your Xiaomi account (which is getting its data through the gateway)

PS
Here's the updated version on AliExpress
aliexpress.com/ite…tml
I don't recall what the changes with v2 were/are.

No, it's a Zigbee device for any Zigbee compatiable gateway (one of the Xiaomi hubs, Smartthings, Zigbee USB)
Hi guys. So far i have
1 x amazon show
1 x harmony ultimate remote and hub
1 x lutron ir remote light switch
Yamaha cinema receiver
1 x sony smart tv

The show is not too great since youtube got pulled from it so i was planning on trading it in for a few echo dot 2nd gen or google home mini.

Which works with harmony remote better? Google or alexa?

I also wanted to get other things like smart curtain tracks, and lamp control. Any suggestions for cheapest modules?

I've never heard of a v3 of the gateway, and I can't imagine it has any other functionality.
The v2 is the common one to get as you can also enable a developer mode to use with home automation software, Home Assistant, Domoticz, etc.
The latest 'hub' if you are going to continue with Xiaomi servers is the combined IPcamera-gateway, marketed as cheaper than buying the v2 hub and ip camera. At the moment, this camera-hub doesn't have the developer mode.
There are some other Xiaomi gateway options, like the air-conditioning sensor-plug but that isn't so useful.

If you are new to the home automation, look over all the Xiaomi Zigbee posts.
I would still say that a promo price Samsung Smartthings is a good bet, just don't get any Samsung sensors but stock up on Xiaomi at promo prices, and look for some cheap Zwave sensors too.

Also do some research on how much SmartThings relies on the Cloud (it is pretty useless when "offline") and look at how many outages SmartThings has had lately.

I bought a SmartThings hub (already had an Xiaomi Gateway) to move over to but realized these things before setting it up, so sent it back.

I use the Xiaomi Gateway with a local Home-Assistant.io install now which has been reliable so far.

I am also addicted to buying cheap Xiaomi sensors everytime I see a deal! Looks like I missed this one, damn! How am I going to know the temperature of an additional unspecified place now

Same as mine on the free delivery option. They've also sent me a free bluetooth speaker, can't fault it!

Absolutely no competition, Alexa is best like for nearly all home automation and since the UK finally got the blue Harmony skill in November it's just about perfect, no trigger words necessary anymore.
