Fairly pointless item here, but I like the look of it. It almost looks like a pregnancy pen, but with the Xiaomi branding!

The higher the TDS, the more sediments and minerals it has in it, and when you consider that London's TDS rate is around 250-350 it is in the low end of the scale.

In a study by the World Health Organization, a panel of tasters came to the following conclusions about the preferable level of TDS in water (mg/l):

50 – 300: Excellent*
300 – 600: Good
600 – 900: Fair
900 – 1,200: Poor
Above 1,200: Unacceptable

* The testers in the report by WHO noted that water with less than 50 might taste flat but this is aesthetic rather than a health concern.

This pen allows you to:
  • Accurately test your water quality
  • The lower the TSD value is, the purer the water is
  • Determines whether purification is required
  • IPX6 waterproof
  • Precision in measurement
  • Automatic temperature calibration

Bought it. Probably use it once and put it in the cupboard with my damp detector and phone attachment endoscope

Or if your supply is from a spring..

If you're relying on a TDS for your drinking water supply, you may want to rethink investing in that filtration system...

Funnily enough, San Pellegrino water has a rating of 600.

As a fellow bear, I can tell you its for testing quality of tap water, spring water, making solutions, or testing ionic content of whatever solution you've got.
Tons of applications..

Saw a video on you tube on how to use this to prove earth is flat heat from me 🌍🔥🔥

So useful.

I had thought about buying something like this a while ago as have a water softener so wanted to see if it made any difference to this.
The water round my area would probably come up as "undrinkable".

It's just very, very hard water. Nothing bad about it at all, aside from making washing machine cleaner and oust essential items.
Loadsa folk use TDS meters for marine fish keeping. Not a bad price, wonder how accurate this one is.

Seems to be a lot of silly old bears ... doesn't tell you the quality at all it tells you the dissolved solids and from that you can obtain an estimation of conductivity . Tons of applications and with out a calibration cert non of which are any use. I use TDS for cooling systems in Vac arc furnaces, I'll pick one up will save me a fortune ....

Who said to rely on it. It's just another tool to use.
Anyone with a Spring will know about filtration and UV systems already.

That's true but doubt this goes low enough been years since I kept marine but thinking looking at figure under 10 parts per milion for the water you add or mix with salt. Normally use reverse osmosis filter systems. From memory my TDS meter you looked though lense type was about £40 10 years ago
good price I use one to tell condition of my reverse osmosis drinking water system, when the membrane and filters need changing

Don’t forget your uv torch for checking hotel rooms or who is a bad aim
Shouldn't it be IP67 ?

Ha yes I have one of those. I think you'd have to be pretty brave to use it in a hotel room. I'd rather not know
Anyone think this would work testing water on steam boilers? :/ :/
Just when you thought you had everything Xiaomi bring something else out of the hat.
Not sure how accurate it is but it could be useful for people who keep fish and want to compare their tank water to their tap water. Especially for that price, it's cheaper than liquid test kits.
Saw this yesterday, debated whether I needed one and decided I didn't, but then gone back in today and ordered one anyway, "just in case"....thanks A_C !
I think I saw Megan Markle endorsing these on QVC yesterday - only £149.99 each (but hers did have a Royal Crest on it)
