I don't understand these chinese manufacturers. Whats the point in making a flagship phone with 4g bands missing.

it's a phone made for the Chinese. The Chinese don't have band 20.

I would personally say the mi5 is a better buy. Much more happening in the modding community.

Not a lot of difference between the 5 and the 5s is there?

Best price on the 5 atm?

Heat OP.

I agree, but I can't be arsed with modding anymore. I just want a fast phone that is going to work straight out of the box, and this is a lot of phone for the money.

For the UK only the 800MHz is missing. It still works fine on EE, with limited use on Three / Vodahphone:

I've got a Redmi Note 4 on Three (Only 1 band) and it's been perfectly fine in cities.

I'm on three and I've never had a problem.

I read these are lacking toughened glass (E.g gorilla glass) so scratch quite easily. Anyone confirm?

Yeah same. Three's coverage seems good for the most part where I am, or at least, not bad enough for me to care! Saving a few hundred quid on the phone hardware kind of puts it into perspective.

Balls, no Skodafone support?

Just to let you guys know... I ordered another phone with geekbuying three weeks ago. Two days later they gave tracking number and three separate emails said item dispatched. After no hope of tracking the item, I kept emailing the tracking support. Only today do they reply to inform me that, in essence, the item is not in stock and asked me to choose another. #ProperMiffed

Should work, but only on one band. Probably worth checking local area coverage

4G bands

Vodaphone coverage

Ordered on Wednesday. No tracking code or dispatch notice yet.

A lot of Chinese sites that I looked at last week were closed up to 4th February due to the Chinese New Year celebrations. Hopefully you will hear something soon once they clear the backlog of orders.

This is becoming standard practice for geekbuying, I'd never use them.

My Mi Max from aliexpress took 21 days from ordering to delivery, some folk ordering xiaomi phone from geekbuying recently have waited that long for the to admit the phone isn't even in stock let alone being dispatched.

I wouldn't say 21 days is 'slow' , it's more standard delivery. My 21 days included 3 days after ordering before it was dispatched, and 4 days for Royal Mail once it was in the U.K. For a free delivery half way around the world, it's actually not bad.

I'm not recommending aliexpress, but I am frustrated with the traditional Chinese retailers lying about stock and order progress, at least with aliexpress it's in the sellers interest to dispatch as quick as they can.

A fair point!

When I ordered my Redmi Note 4 I went with DHL. Think I ended up getting it about 4 days later.

Got email this morning:

'hi,dear
don't worry,
i had replied to canceled you order,
and our manager will refund you,
and you can contact the cc company about the estimated time after two work days.
hope there is a chance that we can make business next time.
have a nice day,
Sincerely,
Jennifer'

... Let's see if they do refund my monies, cos they definitely did not send me the phone, and the tracking number they sent me almost three weeks ago was a spoof!. Silly me paid via traditional card method and not paypal... waited exactly three weeks (today) for absolutely nothing (even asked them to send me the cheaper silver version that some of you guys said you'd already received)... Miffed to heck!

Anyone bought this? Does it work with android pay?

Yes, Xiaomi says it works with Android Pay. It has NFC and the operating system is fully licensed from Google.

General consensus is that the Mi5s does NOT have Gorilla Glass, but the Mi5 does. There is debate whether the Mi5S has Dragontail glass, but many believe it does not even have this. However, Xiaomi will not say, so no one is certain. It has also been said that Xiaomi simply don't want to say which glass they use to allow them to change suppliers at will, however, they were upfront saying the Mi5 had GG4, so I am suspicious that the Mi5s does not have the same.

Got the info from a website that I can't even find now, to check.Thought it was phonearena, but it wasn't. I know Mi5 has GG4. But, if I'm wrong about Mi5s, I apologize.

@karlok1 I feel for you. Did you get your money back?

It's aimed firstly at the Asian market so only supports their frequencies. Occasionally they do manufacture phones with band 20 capability - although I've no idea what drives this? Maybe once the Asian market has been saturated with this model they look for other strong markets to target.

Other Asian markets use B20. Taiwan, for instance, use it, which is what the Redmi Note 3 SE was aimed at.

After viewing some Mi5 bend tests. I wouldn't touch one. I think this is better with a metal frame
