Not sure when this will be released in the UK, but it's available from Amazon Italy and Spain for €449 + delivery €3. That's less than £390 thanks to the pound boost against the Euro in the last few days. The spec of this phone is absolutely outrageous for the price.

It's so annoying that these aren't IP rated

Fair point but what are people doing with their phones to need this? Sitting on the toilet with them and dropping them in?

For me it's mostly a case of "why wouldn't you?"

We're talking about sealing up the joints and ports. Surely a tiny, tiny increase in costs in percentage terms?

Also I have previously used my S7 edge to take photos or record video underwater and it's a great option to have.

And yea just in case you drop it in water is another reason.

I really don't see a downside beyond (what I perceive to be) a negligible increase in cost.
Have we got any updates when it comes to the European Warranty after the Brexit?

A third more to produce according to Xiaomi

Apparently it adds about a third to the cost according to Xiaomi sources which i can't find again haha

I'd be interested in that source because that sounds totally bonkers!

It does sound bonkers, but I think that extra cost is less about the sealing and more about getting it certified as being IP58 etc.
Xiaomi have released phones previously that are very waterproof but haven't been officially certified.

I'm not going to be the one to test my new mi 9!!

It definitely will not withstand submerging. There's no rubber seal on the SIM tray for one.

Also for those questioning why you want IPX, remember it's not just water proofing, but also dust.

It's a decent price, but be aware of the following:

- No expandable storage, in the case of this 64GB.
- No headphone jack.
- No OIS on the camera.

Plus, you get their horrible bloat and skin, yes, I know you can switch launcher.

For me, point 1 & 3 are deal breakers.

The phone is most likely sealed and water resistant like previous generations were. Xiaomi refuses to pay for an IPXX certification though, as they are expensive and useless after you drop your phone for the first time.

Yes it should. Anything outside of China should come with the Global ROM

You just ignore my comment then? The SIM tray is not sealed, therefore will ingress water.

Using it in the rain without fear of it completely breaking.

Point 3 seems massive to me. People always say you're a sucker to buy Samsung/Apple, but in my experience the quality of things like the battery, camera, even the GPS system is just better, and something you'd notice over 2-3 years of use. But on paper, it looks the same.

Depends on the person of course, but I've had £300-£400 phones in the past and wish I'd spent a bit more

Agreed.

I had a Lenovo P2 for a while, decent phone, best battery I've ever had on a smart phone, camera lacked OIS and I ended up selling it after getting sick of seeing blurry pictures of my kids, or shooting video whilst walking that was unwatchable withour getting motion sickness. This phone has EIS at least with video, but it'll crop your shot as you'd expect to achieve it.

Having 64GB of storage for a phone capable of shooting 4K video as well just sounds like a headache I don't want to live with. They absolutely should have had expandable storage and if they weren't bothering to IPX certify the phone should have included a headphone jack.
A great deal which will be cheaper than when the mi9 comes to the UK, for which I have been waiting for so long I bagged a honor view 20 for 319 which I can highly recommend at the moment, same size screen as the mi9 and same 7nm specs, camera is incredible too. I do wish it had a front fingerprint sensor but hey for 319 you can't have everything or waterproofing for that matter.
