If you get Sony back camera chip then it is OK but mine (and many others) were with scrappy Samsung... Shame really as otherwise this is a solid nice phone.

How do you tell which you've got?

Tempting, if only it was either the black or grey on offer!

They do have the best (current) price for black (the voucher doesn't work unfortunately)! I think it was $186.99.

any phone deal should have how long the company is going to update the firmware for, and any guarantee should include this, in that if a vulnerability is found the company has to publish a patch for it within the guarantee period or the phone is not fully doing the purpose for which it is designed for, as in, the vulnerability affects the security of the phone, and the Gov should make it that any phone bought overseas which does not have this guarantee is tested for new any vulns approx 2 months after vuln is published. This testing to be done by cell carrier and if ge phone fails, the phone is barred from every network in the country until the phone manu or the customer says it can be tested again.
Something like this really needs to be done to kick the phone manu's up the ass.

Some merit in what you say, but that would apply to any device - still bitter over my Hudl & Lenovo tablets for the same reason.

Thats really useful. I didn't realise there was such an issue with the camera.

What would import charges be on this approximately?

How would this compare to an LG G2? I am looking to replace it and thinking this would be a good upgrade.

Should be zero with free shipping options (had no issues with the phone or Xiaomi table lamp). Expedited shipping will get you burned as the likes of DHL, EMS always report parcels to customs.

I notice it says B20, does this mean that it will work on 4g network in the uk? just want to clarify that.

This would absolutely destroy a G2.

Redmi Note 5 to be released at the end of the month

I'm not sure that makes a difference here. The price of that will likely be around £200, and the price of the Redmi Note 4 probably won't decrease because of it.

Does anyone know what the front screen is made from, e.g. is it gorilla glass? Can't see any details on the specs.

I have the Redmi note 3, global version, when I had to enter setup information on my first day out of box. Under Country, I had to select United States as there was no option to choose UK! Had quite a few problems with my GPS and other Data connectivity which I believe is because of this? Anyone know how I can fix this issue?

On my wife's Mi5 we set the country to France, and it all works OK. However, for OTA updates to come through we need to set country to India. Hope this helps for you.

Selecting US or India makes no difference. Mine is on US. But heard India get their updates quicker.
It could be because Redmi Note 3 doesn't have band 20. It's needed for signal if you're on some of the networks here.
That would affect data. And possibly GPS because it uses the network signal to assist GPS

That explain it I've got the poorer Samsung camera. I hate it when these companies cheapen the phone. Looks like I'm updating to the five at the end of the month then.
Still a good phone mind, but when I go out to see a band , it's hit and miss whether you get a good photo. Open camera works a bit but it can't change the sensor to a Sony one

I'm waiting for the Lenovo P3. I keep seeing things like Wileyfox posted as equivalents but apparently their service is terrible. I currently have a Samsung E 1200 and am finally thinking of getting a smart phone.

I know they are more complex but I fear a lack of software updates or pacing of power needed may leave a £180 purchase dysfunctional. Any suggestions?

The Samsung isn't much difference to the Sony, people without the Sony have put it on some ridiculous pinnacle. It's a little better but not much when you compare pics. The omnivision one is noticeably worse and doesn't support Google camera etc, luckily that sensor isn't that common.

Quick Question: How tricky would it be to install Google Play Store and English Language onto the Chinese version of the Xiaomi phones? Thanks in advance.

Don't do that lol. It may have a metal body but it's got a mediatech processor. It will make you seasick using it lagging then speeding very unnerving. B20 and already set up on the global version I would reconsider.

Thanks pengwyn - not for me as I have the Global version. Just a question I had from a family member and I didn't know the answer.

Misleading title. This deal is a RedMi note not a Xiaomi note. Big difference:S

As far as I know my version redmi 3 does have band 20 , I'm with EE 4gmax but still have connectivity issues eg my Apple music always stop's streaming after a few tracks, GPS disconnects when using runtastic mountain bike app, and weather app doesn't update all it's information eg time etc

It doesn't originally unless it was somehow unlocked.

No. This is unlocking the band. Nothing to do with phone unlocking.
Most likely you'll either need to change network to one that doesn't use band 20 or change phone.

As my Samsung S5 is on its way out, been considering getting an S7, hoped price would drop more since S8 came out, but not shifted a lot. UK version SIM free I can find for about £375. But seeing some of these Chinese phones, I'm wondering if it's worth a punt? Not interested in the Samsung Edge phones, or the S8 series as they're too big for me. The spec on this phone looks pretty good, but it's 5.5 inches. Do Xiaomi do a phone with similar spec that's closer to a 5" screen size? How do the photos on these phones compare to older Samsung models (like my current S5), and do Android updates come through automatically? Any pointers would be appreciated. If I can get something similar to an S7 for £130 rather than getting an S7 for £375 or more, it's a pretty big saving if the phone is reliable.

You need a normal redmi 4 not the note version it's the same as Samsung's size labelling.
I thought the same as you but I went for it and have not looked back. The camera is a bit lower granted but I would retire your S5 to low light photo usage and rest of the time get one of these you won't regret it
