Strange that there is no band 20. I bought the Redmi 3 Pro Prime (global version) last year, and that has band 20 support. Would have thought that was half the point of it being a 'global' version, alongside having certain apps and languages installed.
Very good deal. I am tempted by the silver for an extra $2. Are these good? Will I just be able to pop my sim in and go?
If its Official Global ROM why no Band 20?

Something doesn't add up

There are quite a few xiaomi models that have global rom but no band 20 this has got oficial global rom if you scroll down to language and phone detail screenshots you will see the miui 8 version is 8.1.2.0 MBEMIDI now if you look here link en.miui.com/dow…tml you will see the current official global rom stable is 8.2.4.0 MBEMIDL but if you select older versions under stable rom you will see 8.1.2.0 MBEMIDI so the phone should OTA to the current rom after you switch on phone and set up
it will still work although you will have far less access to 4G in parts of the UK if you are on vodafone / o2 etc..
I just took delivery of a redmi 4x global 3gb, 32gb with band 20 and its amazing for the money! From Ali express it arrived in 8 days!

Global ROM and Global Version don't mean the same thing. Global Version will have Global ROM pre-installed but the China Version can still be opened by the sellers and have the Official Global ROM installed themselves. So Global ROM doesn't indicate it has band 20 like Global Version would. I don't think the Redmi 4 Pro was ever released outside of China so there isn't a band 20 Global Version. For phones that do have a Global Version, there are also China with Global ROM counterparts being sold and sellers who sell both make the distinction.

Redmi 4A Global Version<<: A non China release. 'Global Version' in title and over the image. Band 20 support
Redmi 4A Global ROM<<: China version with Global ROM installed. 'Official Global ROM' over the listing image only. No mention of 'Global' in title. No Band 20 support.
I bought the Redmi 3s earlier this year and has done really well compared to my old iphone. Need to get a replacement for my wife's 5s so instead of paying too much for yet another apple, I think she is happy to jump to one of these phones now.
So it is a slight gamble on the colour as well if I want gold as per the following note:

"Redmi 4 32GB Gold Color has two versions,
1 Full Gold =Front Gold + Back Gold
2 New Gold=Front white + Back Gold
we will send it to you randomly . pls understand."

both of your examples are no band 20 support only bands 1,3,7

The first xiaomi phone to support band 20 was the redmi note 3 special edition this was launched for the Taiwanese market as band 20 was required there some dealers sold it under international version but that was just them calling it that officially was special edition because there was already a global edition out without band 20 all 3 are shown here en.miui.com/dow…tml point i am making is it doesn't matter what a seller calls it be it official global rom or official global version you should check the detail as your 2 examples point out both non band 20

I think the seller copied the template of the Global ROM listing but didn't change it accordingly. At the bottom of the Global Version listing, it mentions opening the box to install ROM just like for the Global ROM version, whereas their Global Version Redmi Note 4 listing mentions it being sealed. For every other seller, Redmi 4A Global Version = B20 version. See Redmi 4A Global Version listings for Fantacy,HK Goldway, Xiaomi Online Store etc which say B20. They also have 'Global ROM' listings as well which don't say B20. Dreami also has a table in their descriptions indicating the differences between Global Version and Global ROM.

It's true the Redmi Note 3 was the first to support band 20. However, the Redmi 4A was the first to carry the "Global Version" tag. It is on the box in a red label under the cellophane so it is Xiaomi naming and not seller naming. So far, 3 of the Redmi phones have had this naming and are definitely all band 20 variants compared to the China Version which does not have this tag. See here<<. They are likely Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia versions. The Redmi 4A, Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi 4X so far have carried this naming, like how Taiwan B20 Note 3 version was called "Special Edition". See Singapore Mi site or the Indonesia or Malaysia sites which verifies all 3 have band 20, and this Singapore unboxing that shows theirs is tagged "Global Version" on the box.

All i am saying is check no matter what a seller calls them if band 20 is essential as far as this model is concerned it has got a official miui 8 global rom just no band 20 as my previous link shows we are not the only country in the world just one off our networks O2 and part of vodaphone still use band 20 O2 are in the process of rolling out band 3 1800 so may not be a problem much longer

I agree. I wasn't trying to suggest blindly accepting what a title would imply. My initial point was to indicate to the other member that Global ROM doesn't indicate B20 but that Global Version *should*. However, the example I gave didn't portray that correctly hence my follow-up reply. The Global Version Redmi 4A from Gearbest, Banggood and Geekbuying would also suggest it's the B20 version and is different from their Global ROM listings, therefore I assume the description has been copied over incorrectly between the 2 listings from the AE seller, but then again it could be the title that is wrong so I agree that you'd need to check.

I'm assuming you actually bought the Redmi 3s prime, not the Redmi 3 Pro. There is no band 20 version of the Redmi 3 Prime/Pro, which has a faster processor than that of the Redmi 3s Prime.
Good deal except the grey/black version is £140.:|

Why don't you move on to China where this phone will really work and harass people in UK who need UK bands like the B20 4G band.

The 4x is still a very good phone for the price, but it does have a slower CPU than the Pro in this deal.

But (importantly for many) it does support B20. A proper global version of the 4 Pro would be perfect for me.
