Good phone, great price. Just worth mentioning there is a lot of talk …Good phone, great price. Just worth mentioning there is a lot of talk recently about these cheap Chinese phones sending masses of personal data back to China. This is why they are cheap. There are ways you can disable this but they are not straight forward. Just worth bearing in mind.

I am a bit worried about what you found out? And did you find out any next step useful information from these "experts" or knowleagbles from this statement, "Just worth mentioning there is a lot of talk recently about these cheap Chinese phones sending masses of personal data back to China"?

1. You said that there is a lot of talk, did they say whether it is the same sort of anonymised personal data that is sent by any make of phone to servers anywehere in Korea, Japan, USA, UK, Russia blah blah, for big data analyses and sold to marketing compannies for money, why single out China?

2. Is there specific private and anonymised data that is sent to China, which would not be otherwise sent to other servers around the world such as those in in Korea, Japan, USA, UK, Russia blah blah?

3. What tools could be used to detect this sending of data?

Please share after you reading a lot of talk recently what are your conclusions for 1,2 and 3 above.

I have one of these - absolutely fantastic phone and unbeatable value compared to what's available in the UK. The battery lasts me three days between charges, with moderate use.

With regards to sending data back to China, I don't think Xiaomi devices do this. Besides, as long as it's not sending my money to a Nigerian bank account, I don't really care.

I have a Xiaomi Mi5, which is backed up to MiCloud every day, so I'm fairly sure data IS sent to Chinese servers. That said, it's only bookmarks, photos and texts from my wife, so to be honest, they scan sift through it if they like. I'm fairly sure there's no Chinese blokes with white cats, rubbing their hands together and giving evil laughs.

You should be more concerned with companies like TalkTalk, Equifax.... etc who allowed for data breached with interests, who know?

Pretty sure that with some of the stuff that gets shared on my WhatsApp groups and saved to Mi Cloud they would have decided by now that they really don't want my data

Probably haven't come across anything as substantial as what you seem to require. I have a few friends who are in to their tech who prowl reddit every day and they seem to hear things pretty quickly. I will do my best to find supporting evidence.

Please see this link hackread.com/chi…na/ I cannot vouch for it's credibility but again, it's another nail in the coffin.

tomsguide.com/us/…tml see this link for One Plus admitting collecting data, again, cannot confirm credibility.

I don't know what servers they send anything to, I don't work for any of their companies. I just know you get what you pay for, cheap Chinese (or other) phones are notorious for collecting data.

With regards to disabling some of this, you can download a bootloader to get your phone into Fastboot mode, from their you can use Software on your PC to type commands into a command prompt that can disable this, I've been through it with my Oneplus phone.

Although my proof may not be up to your standards, i think it's more foolish to believe that these companies are not collecting your data, of course they are. I still use a cheap chinese phone, just saying, there has been lots of talk recently.

Talktalk is different from equifax, you can choose a different broadband supplier but equifax can mess up your credit status. No one has yet given me definitive proof that China is spying on you. These cheapo phones like leagoo or doogee are more interested in firing ads at you. Get a Xiaomi is the answer and I think it's worth the extra 40 gbp tbh

Isn't too the permissions on android, Windows and iOS apps allow the apps to go the servers of the apps companies anyway? That is the business model(s) of all free apps.
Because of this collection of data, I have many smart devices. For example, one I use only for internet radio, one only for travelling around, one for navigation in a car etc..

This or Redmi note 4x?

Is your P8 lite the 2017 model? If so how does the Xiaomi camera compare?

Heat 🔥

Good phone, great price.

Bought this a month or so back for my wife. It's a cracking phone now running Lineage OS 14.1. Really smooth and fast and looks great. Paid £1 more from an AliExpress seller.

It's the 2016, camera is better on the Xiaomi, much faster and better in low light.
