Plus, I've double checked the specs, and despite the ridiculous high price of under 120 quid, it doesn't even drive you to work, walk the dog or make the tea. Burn it! Burn them all!!!

How does this compare to Redmi Note 4?

Most reviews suggest it's not much of an upgrade if you already have a RN4 but if you don't it represents fantastic VFM. Same processor/ RAM/ROM but bigger screen and much smaller bezels. Some reviews suggest the camera is a bit better on this also. I really think it's more of a 'looker' than the RN4 but that's entirely subjective.

PS Heat added for a great price!

PPS i have a ZUK Z2 which has a higher spec (albeit a smaller screen) but I'm tempted TBH (missing the screen real estate!).

This has a bigger screen 5.99 " 18:9 ratio as opposed to note 4s 5.5" 16:9 ratio otherwise basically the same
Is the screen resolution better or is that because it is 18:9 ratio?

Also Is this better than my Mi Max 1 3gb 32gb ROM?
Love my redmi note 4 even more now I've put pixel 2 launcher on it so I think I'll be sticking

Cheapest I've seen this is about £114 on AliExpress, but that's the gold version, so pretty close.
There is quite a jump in price to the 64gb version, so I think the 32gb is better value at the mo.

The redmi note 3 had dual band ac, don't know why the removed it... Cost savings I guess.
Don't think the 4gb model has a global version yet i.e. no band 20.

Question for people who know these things: Should I wait for the Xiaomi 6X (Mi A2)?

It is 18:9 at 1080 x 2160 giving 403 ppi and the max is 6.44" 16:9 at 1080 x 1920 giving 342 ppi
slightly better snapdragon 650 on the max but there is no global version of the max so no band 20 support
I suppose the real question before committing to this is:

Is there really going to be a Redmi Note 5?
Lots of rumours and counter rumours atm. Rumours of a bezel-less design a la Mi Mix and SD636 SOC but only time will tell.

Have not heard anything about them according to the rumour mill it looks like the Mi 7 will be next to launch around end of March early April it is rumoured to come with snapdragon 845 and possibly with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the screen and also wireless charging
How’s the camera on these phones ?
Good deal. Pay in USD with a decent no fee credit card for £112 or get PayPal to convert for £116.20

A lament, a lament, to be taken as my own requirements, everyone has theirs.

Just for info I ordered a RN4 from Gearbest before Xmas sent via Singapore registered airmail and as yet it has not arrived so probably best to opt for Priority Line postage.
Not checked XDA bit can you put regular android on this instead of using miui?
What is the MIUI 9 Operating system? is this their own version of android? and would it be compatible with all the apps on play store?

It's a very well-developed and integrated skin on top of Android. I've never owned a Xiaomi phone but used MIUI on various other Android phones in the past (dating back to a Motorola Defy, no less!).

Pretty decent, in my opinion, though many prefer stock Android which does things a bit differently. I've no experience of more recent MIUI versions, however, which have added additional features.

Once you've installed a Global MIUI, you should be able to get Play store and install any apps without any issues.

This looks like good value. My sister is looking for a new phone and I may recommend one of these.

If you use DHL you will definitely get caught for custom charge at 20% declared value and DHL admin charge for paying custom charge on your behalf of around £12-14. I have had stuff held up in customs for 8 days but has always arrived normally about 3 - 4 days in customs but i am sure yours will arrive soon
Will the camera on this or the Note 4 be no worse than what's in the Vodafone smart ultra 6?
@BUCKUM2 yes thats right but you simply pay the fee of the declared value on their epayments website and the next day they deliver your pack... not worth to gamble especially Singapore post is high risk

Hehe, thing is, there will always be some compromises at this price point. I think Xiaomi have done a very good job of striking balance of cost / features though
Are there no good phone deals at the moment with Snapdragon 820 or better? All the good LeEco & Axon 7 deals seem to have dried up. Nothing new in this performance range?

Thats what i said the declared value plus their admin charge of around £12-14 most Chinese firms will declare a lower value to help keep cost down but even if they declared £50 instead of the correct price of say £120 you would be hit with £10 custom and £12-14 admin so about £24 and thats on top of the original charge at point of order for choosing DHL which can be another £9-18 depending on who you order from. Royal mail do the same if it is picked up in customs they take it to your local sorting office and will then deliver a card to you telling you they have your package and you need to pay the amount of custom charge and their admin charge usually £8 ish before they will complete the delivery

Thanks, searched for ages for that and couldn't find it. If my Oukitel Mix 2 doesn't work out I'll give that a try.
