The Redmi 6 has a 3000mAh battery, 32GB of storage, along with GPS, a fingerprint sensor, a 5MP front camera with AI face unlock technology, a 12MP + 5MP rear camera, as well as a 3.5” headphone jack and a memory card expansion slot.

Super snaps
Created with a 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera, the Redmi 6 will help you to take super snaps. The AI-powered portrait mode can blur backgrounds to create more professional looking shots.

Easy unlock
Fire up your phone from the lock screen with just a glance, thanks to the Redmi 6’s front camera’s AI face unlock technology or place your finger on the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner – one tap and away you go.

Storage expansion
32GB of storage can fill up quickly, however if you find you need more, don’t worry as the Redmi 6 has a handy memory card slot – pop in a memory card that you’ve previously purchased (up to 256GB) and away you go.

What is SIM free?
You'll receive an unlocked device, so there’s no requirement to commit to any network, leaving you free to decide which SIM card / network to use in the mobile. This gives you the opportunity to find the most suitable plan, whether that’s a SIM only deal, contract or pay-as-you-go, throughout the lifetime of the phone.

John Lewis?
Bought this for about this price on Amazon a month or so ago. I found the Miui operating system infuriating and replaced the phone with a Huawei P smart which I've been much happier with.

Yeah they don't do themselves any favours, ie, no app drawer as standard, wish they'd just slap it on the miui launcher has some nice animations, you can't select notification tone on Gmail etc,you can find your way round the rest of the ui with a bit of patience but yes little things but they matter to me, I'm a big Xiaomi fan (currently considering a mi9 now the price is dropping on a daily basis) and I do like many of their customizations but I can't argue with that.

Couldn't you just put a different launcher on it like Nova?
Would welcome any thoughts on this one.

Need a new phone as my Nokia 1 is barely running now with no memory left even though I've deleted everything possible (I have 3 apps!) Can't even read a pdf on it.

Need a good budget phone, as close to stock android as possible, good battery life, headphone jack, gps, Bluetooth, would like NFC but that seems to be impossible at the price.

The Xiaomi looks like it blows the honor 7 and other similar ones out of the water on spec, but I'm concerned I'll get frustrated with the software.

Help! Please!?
A question for Redmi 6 users:
When you have it connected to a Bluetooth speaker, can you stream Youtube videos okay using the app? Did you encounter any other problems using Bluetooth and Wifi at the same time?

I ask because this was such a problem for me, I ended up returning the phone and buying a more expensive one. Otherwise, I was very impressed with the Redmi 6. It's compact and light, has good specs, performs well and the battery life is phenomenal. My partner's phone has a larger 4000mAh battery, yet the Redmi 6 would actually outlast it. If not for the BT issue, I would still be happily using it today.

The Xiaomi is a great phone for the money but if you're after stock Android, you best look elsewhere.

ooh I like that, the 5.1 is closer to budget - takes a hit on memory though. Too much choice!

Yes you certainly can, that's what I've done
Out of curiosity, for anyone that has this phone, what is the battery life like?

Are there limitations or considerable downsides to the non stock version of android on this handset?
Battery life is excellent as it has one of the newer chips built on 12nm dies ( saves power and emits less heat than bigger dies).
The miui version of android does not have major downsides - some people prefer it to stock as it has lots of added features. You don't have to use their apps if you don't want. I don't even register a miui account . Most are equivalents of googles offerings (gallery, music , video player etc ). its just annoying them still include these on global versions that have the google apps.

The launcher is limited - no app drawer seems to be most peoples gripe, but you can download and use another launcher if you want. The stock launcher does have a great theme store though. I stick with it and put apps into folders ( as home screens get cluttered when there is no app drawer )

many thanks for the very useful info.
I'm simply looking to use it as a 2nd phone (for the occasional whatsapp message/call). Could i achieve 3-4 days between charges ? The alternative is the moto g7 power, but that is larger and £80 more.
I feature I liked most about MIUI was Quick Ball. I makes using the phone one-handed so much easier. You can go Home, Back, to the menu, etc. all from the side of the screen, instead of having to tap them at the bottom. Make sure to enable this feature if you haven't already!

The fingerprint scanner is the round circle on the back of the phone ( it is shown on the pictures ).
Its the Redmi 6 . The pictures also show the two rear cameras plus flash above the fingerprint scanner ( the 6A only has a single rear camera)
