2gb of ram, is that enough?

Not really these days. My 3gb Android devices struggle with basic stuff. Fine if you don't mind waiting for stuff. For Android 12 6GB very min I say if you want responsive design.

I had a 9A which I thought was awful. I think this may be slightly better but not by much?

Bought this for my father-in-law last year for the same price at Amazon. He only uses it for YouTube, WhatsApp and phone calls. It's slightly laggy even when navigating through apps and menus, and I had to wipe it recently as it ground to a halt. The proximity sensor has also gone on it so it's currently en route to Amazon to get repaired or replaced.

What does the proximity sensor do? (I know, I could Google it.)

Would this be good as a general media player so for YouTube and Spotify etc? Or could I go even cheaper? (Any suggestions would be great)

Bought a similarly priced and specced Motorola E20 for that very purpose . works a treat for both purposes.
