Mi band 5 is releasing on 11th of June with bigger display and many new features if you can wait :

I was all excited about getting one of these to play with but after watching the YouTube video below, it's a no from mi!

PS Does the post title need editing? This is the budget 'Redmi Smart Band' (with no 4). It's not to be confused with the posher 'Mi Smart Band 4'.

How are the sleep trackers on these compared to mi band 4? Or is it basically the same? I am not very happy with my mi band.

I use Mi Fit app, not sure how else would you check you sleeping patterns. Don't know what those other things are. Could you elaborate?
Separate app does everything mi app does but gives more details and modifications but it does have pro version that does more, not sure if it worth it but has more details in sleep data etc.

Temped to get for my mum at this price.. Is this a decent seller?

I've been using the Mi Band 4 for about 3 or 4 months now and frankly I'm astonished at how accurate mine is for the sleep monitoring.

In all honesty I would say mine is accurate within 5 minutes both falling asleep and awakening.
Try to avoid Aliexpress, you may get tax up to %70 of item value (I konw it doesn't make sence but it happened to me) and good luck getting a refund if item was faulty
looks like fit bit

I've got an Honor Band 5 and thats got a pretty good sleep mode.... can tell the deep sleeping and REM

tbh i've only used the sleep mode for a few days as having the thing on wrist is enough to put my sleeping off! was ok for a few days though

Honor Band is good for steps etc and I get 14 days out of it

How do you really know when you've fallen asleep though? It works it out i guess from the drop in heart rate

Slightly off topic as I'm not referring to this particular band, but if you need very accurate sleep tracking, go for the Honor Band 5 over the Mi Band 4.
I have both, and have done some research, and would take the Honor Band 5 over the Mi Band 4 for the following reasons:

1. True continuous HR tracking on the Honor Band 5. This is within about 3% of the HR I get with a chest band, so pretty accurate. The continuous HR tracking in the Honor Band 5 is truly continuous in that it's a once per second assessment, whereas the minimal frequency on the MiBand 4 is settable at only once per minute.

2. Very accurate sleep tracking through the TruSleep algorithm in the Honor Band 5, which depends on No 1 - without absolutely continuous HR tracking, your REM sleep, a very important component of your sleep cycle, cannot be tracked accurately using the cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) algorithm. The Huawei TruSleep algorithm has been certified by Harvard Medical School . Sleep tracking with the MiBand will be less accurate given the intermittent readings from the HR sensor at only one min intervals. A subtle difference yes, but for me, quite significant.

3. The Honor Band 5 has an SpO2 sensor (missing in the Mi Band 4), which again is pretty accurate. I have a fingertip pulse oximeter and the two readings are within about 4% of each other. This could come in handy during these COVID times given that a gradually dropping SpO2 in some patients is one of the first clinical indicators of the onset of pneumonia. Obviously also useful if you're a hard-core exercise addict.

On the plus side, the MiBand 4 has a higher capacity battery (125mAh vs 100mAh) hence goes longer between charges. However, there are some rumours floating around that the MiBand 5 scheduled to be released 11th June will come with Alexa built in, plus an SpO2 sensor and also menstrual tracking for the ladies, so perhaps wait till then to make a decision. However, there's no indication that the even the MiBand 5 will have as accurate a sleep analysis algorithm as the Honor Band 5.

The sleep algorithm used by Huawei (TruSleep) has been certified by Harvard Medical School, and is rather unique in that it combines HR data generated once per second, with accelerometer data, to accurately determine your REM sleep, in addition to the other sleep phases. The Mi Band HR sensor can only be set to a maximal sampling frequency of once per minute, hence sleep tracking would not be as accurate.
Mi band but more flexible for apps added extra apps and watch faces

You take your chances. Personally I'd rather pay more to get from a reputable seller.
No doubt some people will rave about aliexpress but for the sake of a tenner I'd look elsewhere

Heres the preorder link thread on hotuk deals . Not sure if it will be comparable in terms of sleep monitoring or other functions?

I haven't seen too much detail on how Xioami's sleep tracking works, except that it uses the accelerometer data to determine total sleep duration as well as light and deep sleep phases, which can be differentiated from movement data alone. Not too much detail currently on whether the MiBand 5 takes a different approach to the Band 4.

Huawei worked very closely with the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, a Harvard Medical School umbrella hospital and a centre of excellence for sleep research, when they developed and validated the TruSleep 2 algorithm. It essentially uses HR data including sinus rhythm information together with the accelerometer data to detect the elusive REM phases, which are normally determined by running an EEG on your brain while you're asleep at a sleep research centre! Truly impressive to say the least, and goes to illustrate the extent to which Huawei R&D has progressed.

In contrast, the Apple watch which costs about 10 times as much still does not natively track your sleep!

There will be sellers trying to scam, which is no different to ebay or amazon. Look for sellers with 97% feedback score and been open a couple of years. I avoid stores with generic names like 'store43626772', it suggests they had a store before and it got banned so created a new one.

Not all stores accept PayPal, which will give you buyer protection. Your bank will most likely cover your payment anyway though. If there's a problem though, always use the AE dispute system first. When the package arrives, record a video of the package fully sealed and open the package and show the contents as evidence in case you have been fobbed off.

I've used AE a fair amount over the past 6 months. Always got what I ordered although it can take a long time if the seller posts via China Post registered airmail or similar. Its basically the same as ordering an item off eBay that says 'From China' underneath, but usually a bit cheaper.

Does notify and fitness work for Honor Band 5?

Yes it does, and with more accuracy than the Xaomi products. Not my words, but from all the research that countless reviews have done.

I also second what has been said on the sleep monitoring. Found it to be incredibly accurate compared to other products including the Fitbit. My other half has a Fitbit that cost 5 times the money, but the sleep recording on the Honor 5 appears more accurate than her Fitbit. The Sp02 reader also helps with the breathing report whilst sleeping too which I originally didn't know it did whilst you slept.

Great product, but word of warning, if you don't have a Huawei or Honor phone, because of the Donald Trump's fallout with China, their apps are no longer supported on the Google Play store so you have to get them from Huawei's own app store. Some might not be comfortable with that.

Don't think so, Amazfit watch and mi band. Have bought 2 of these mi bands in lockdown, love them as a smart watch, also bought a galaxy active watch and never use because these do everything easier. The sleep in in the notify app is very usefull but not charging for 3 weeks is great. With the Mi band 5 coming out the other must drop prices soon.

Never had any problems and I've bought tablets worth up to £250, just be ready for import duty especially if it's by courier. Stick to approved resellers and buyers usually leave feedback with photos and service experience. The only timr my item failed to arrive within the specified time, I got a refund using the dispute system. The item later turned up weeks later though.

Don't buy this band. Stay with mi band 4 or the new 5..
I got this band but was not been able to pair it with my iPhone using MiFit App. The old Mi band 3 was working with my iPhone just fine. Turns out that the RedMe band can only be set up and controlled using Xiaomi Wear Application which is not available in the U.K. AppStore. To install Xiaomi Wear one has to create a China based Apple ID account. All in, this a very convoluted process to get it going.
