A few Xiaomi codes that might be worth bearing in mind (unfortunately, the options that work with these codes aren't in stock at the moment)

If it's faulty is it still back to China though?
International rom?

Hm, GSMarena says "microSD, up to 32 GB (dedicated slot) - Chinese version only", will have to see if I can figure out if it does have it!

Edit: Live Chat doesn't seem to be working at the moment "Our agents are too busy to sever* you now. Here it is our FAQ. that may help you." I will try and get a definite answer on this.

*their typo, not mine!

If? Yes, if you can afford the postage and risk.

As a rule of thumb; if your buying these chinese phones from china, dont hold your breath on a smooth (if any) repair/refund.

i bought phone and it was not as described.. a lot of features missing and not working... I had to pay postage to send it back to China even though I bought from EU warehouse. PayPal had to intervene....never buying from them

Conversely, I've had mine six months, admittedly the stock software is pants, but Cyanogenmod 12.1 is working fine (apart from dual SIM data, only works on SIM 1). Bought from Gearbest EU Warehouse and arrived in a few working days. I have the 32gb Prime version. I am aware I've been lucky and I bought it fully knowing that any problems would necessitate sending it back to China (so effectively no warranty). But it's not ALWAYS a disaster to buy this way. It was £120, probably the most I'd be willing to punt. I'd be unlikely to do it again, but it's just so much better value than anything comparable spec wise in the UK at the moment.

Hi Gordon, in the case of dual sim usually only one of them is 3g, the other is 2g only, so if you got a 3g sim in the 2g slot it wont give you a data connection, not sure if that helps you also, which sim app are you using to switch between sims?

my biggest issue was not getting 4g which is a must for me... the compass didn't work which is the cause of this I believe....I read previous customers state how stubborn gearbest are when it comes to returns and it was true... bought once never again

That's indeed how it works on the stock software.

This is slightly different. It's because I'm using Cyanogenmod and Xiaomi haven't published sources. Even if data is disabled on SIM 1, SIM 2 never has data. It's a minor bug and Cyanogenmod is much better for my use overall than the stock MIUI software which crashes a lot and is full of rubbish apps I don't need (even if you reflash the sMIUI version which strips a lot of them out)

You won't get 4G if you rely on Band 20 solely (O2 and their MVNOs) as this phone doesn't have it. I'm on Three and it gets 4G fine, as they use multiple bands (including Band 20, so coverage isn't as wide as it could be with a UK handset, but it really isn't as big an issue as all the naysayers on here like to point out) Compass works fine for me.

Engineering Mode isn't accessible either unfortunately. I'm happy enough without Band 20 to be honest, it's barely faster than strong HSDPA

I bought the 32GB version from Gearbest EU a few weeks ago and it came to less than £100 with the TCB cashback.
It was $149 when I bought it, but has now gone up to $196. If you want the extra storage it might be worth waiting to see if the 32GB price goes down again.

When I first got it some apps wouldn't work (NowTV for example) because they thought the phone was rooted. I installed the international ROM from the Xiaomi website and that fixed that problem. en.miui.com/dow…tml

I didn't particularly like the MIUI interface, but installing the Nova launcher made a big improvement.

Lovely phone for the money.

It's worth investing in a spare battery, they're dead cheap from various Chinese websites. They're out of stock at Gearbest, but I bought one from AliExpress and one from Everbuying, and despite the low price they appear to be genuine. They last as long as the one that came with the phone, unlike some cheap phone batteries I've bought in the past.

Have you tried the XIAOMI RedMi shortcuts? Type *#*#13411#*#* in dialer, should give you engineer mode, or you can enter engineer mode by turning off your phone and hold Volume up button + Power button at the same time

It's all in there. Not possible, unless Xiaomi release their sources (highly unlikely)
Anyone else noticed Amazon have removed all Xiaomi phones?

I use angel vs demons v8 ROM and it works perfectly. it's based on miui, so you might not like it. I got my redmi note 2 for 40 used off eBay. I was lucky as the condition was perfect. tried the beta of the new eu miui. wasn't impressed, mainly due to the poor battery life and slow charge times.
