Awful reviews on Amazon...

Awful reviews on Amazon...

with all due respect, people on Amazon are idiots, for the price point this is probably the best all-rounder phone you can buy in the 5.5 inch screen size. FHD screen, fingerprint scanner, huge battery = 2 days usage, really decent speaker, bang up to date SOC Snapdragon 650, 3GB Ram, 32GB storage and expandable, weekly os updates and 16MP camera.

the only thing missing is NFC.

you would do a lot worse for the ££ buying a moto, samsung, HTC or any other for the same price

Glad you mentioned that (4G). I nearly bought this but doesn't have 800mhz so that rules out Tesco Mobile (02)

So if you use ee or 3 and, like most people never use the warranty... You can spend the 200 you've saved on something else, even a replacement should you need one!

I love mine excellent piece of kit

They do but the use of B20 is limited to a few devices on Three. Even if you buy a Huawei P9 from them it will get nothing on B20 either directly of via the InTouch app and this applies to the majority of devices.

Of course it is a gamble but at £138 it isn't a big one. Two days in I would be **** off if a phone broke but two months in, well happy days - I can buy a new phone.

I've never had to send a xiaomi back, ever.
I've had a few over the years.
Had to send my Samsung back..
Family had to go to Apple store for warranty exchange.

Shows up as 150 for me was working last night.

Still works at my end - sometimes with Gearbest Email Only prices some mobile devices don't update the price properly. Might take a moment or two to load.

Sceptical about that seller as the special edition is supposed to be the 3gb/32gb version.

Been looking into these phones recently since my S6 has the battery life of one of the competitor bunnies from the Duracell commercial.

No NFC is the only thing putting me off

I'm guessing that's a rhetorical question from simont_space, rather than something that's actually happened. He seems to have a grudge against Gearbest (don't know the backstory though).

Not a 'grudge' at all. Many folk aren't aware of the problems they, as with other Chinese sellers, can present if items faulty.

The cost of returning items fully tracked and insured, not just a signature, is costly. Many folk on HUKD have stated GearBest only offer a partial refund or credit on faulty items. The question of import duty is often raised. I have had to pay for this from GearBest in the past, the majority don't as GearBest put item cost as below $20. Is it wrong to point out that is blatent fraud on their part? HMRC, us the taxpayer, lose out on the 20% VAT that should be paid. The same folk who then say 'who cares' are the same ones who will moan about lack of money for the NHS or Amazon avoiding tax (legally).

GearBest have some fantastic stuff at great prices, but my gripe is the lack of info on the pitfalls if you buy from any Chinese, or non UK/EU, sites. It is after all Hot UK Deals, not Hot Worldwide Deals.

£198 on Ebay with 1 yr warranty from UK business seller, so not saving £200 are you. £60ish to return to China fully tracked and insured, not just a signature.

this phone is an absolute bargain. unless you actually have this phone then an opinion is simply that, an opinion. everything from the build quality to hardware and software experience is fantastic. I ordered mine from gearbest, with an official mi clear gel case and it's stunning in gold. the battery is an absolute beast and will not die with a days extreme use.

build, speed, cost, software for £138 is a steal. this is an opinion of an actual user of this phone.

ebay warranty is worth less, eBay are not willing to help at all. you just have 45 days and that's it, still better than 0 days from China,

thanks. i will take a look at that. *thumbs up*

My Lg G2 is constantly freezing. I love the phone, especially the camera. Would this phone be a good upgrade? I do use my camera quite regularly so i would like a good camera, equal to my G2 would be sufficient.

The Gold version is slightly cheaper here, £136.19 (mentioned on an older HUKD thread) aliexpress.com/ite…tml

That only says there's rumour it'll be 2gb, still think it's worth steering clear of. Surprised the Taiwan one isn't available readily though

Common misconception.

I have bought 3 phones from Gearbest. 2 worked fine 1 didn't... and it was troublesome to get it sorted out.. pictures, email, video clip and then after supplying them with everything I could got offered partial refund nowhere near the price I spent . I vowed to stick to banggood and never use them again. but that is Gearbest. . . the phones all made by xiaomi apart from the one that didn't work are really great phone. I was lucky as I'm on Ee so my 4g bands work well the phones are fast and compared to my Samsung s5 it's more powerful. some games lagged on s5 some had to be played at medium level but this phone played at max settings and no lag.. .. but Gearbest grrrr they peeved me right off

Original Poster

I've only ever bought one thing from Gearbest (£12 keyboard for my Linx). Currently sent a few emails to Banggood after they packed the wrong AC Adapter for a tablet I bought - Live Chat won't even speak to me and direct me to their contact forms, which takes up a day at a time! It's a not-common connector so I've had to buy from Amazon Prime to "make do".

Not that impressed with my China purchases at the moment!

Just wanted to add for the record that this is complete horse poop. Had my doubts when reading it but put a frequency logger on my phone (3 sim only contract) today, it spends more time on band 20 then 3.
