Any idea how much will be the custom charge ?

About 20-30 quid only if it gets stopped. Might get lucky. However, massive delays from gearbest and issues with shipping ATM. I paid for expedited shipping on a phone 3 weeks ago. Still no arrival and the dhl tracking code they supplied does not exist. Told them they have a week to get the phone to me or claiming a refund though PayPal

I got hit for £25 but I did choose fast shipping via DHL (came within 5 days). Less chance of being hit for customs if you choose slower delivery, apparently.

Heat from me, great vfm phone
I bought it half a year ago. I chose slow delivery and it didn't get to customs. The same when I bought Amazfit watch. So it depends how lucky you are.
I have this phone, I can't fault it. I have the 2gb version. But it is still a decent phone
Had mine 3 months, brilliant phone , 3 days battery life , put Nova on it and no customs with the slow delivery option (took 10 days)

Nice, but its 5,5 inch screen is probably to big for me:(
Guys this or the Xiaomi a1? Also, what about a note 4? I just need it as a spare device, for a 8 plus as my main device. Thanks
Love this phone, had mine now for almost a year, great battery life and really fast, but dropped it last week, smashed the screen, but still working great, my own fault for not using a cover, might buy another as a replacement, that's the best thing when they only cost £120!
Got this from banggood 3 months ago, great phone. Took 10 days to get here ,in a jiffy bag marked "gift" and didn't pay any charges

which shipping option is best ?
I bought one of those Xiaomi battery chargers from Gearbest last month it took over 4 weeks to arrive.
Your looking at the end of January before this would arrive.

Im using a Redmi Note 3 Pro still and would recommend them as a phone. The build quality is great. Never had an issue. Love them.

I couldn't decide between the Mi A1 or Note 4 so I now have both, I'm typing with the Mi A1 now and I'm missing using the Note 4 with it's longer battery life and believe it or not the MiUi OS so early days with the Mi A1 but first thoughts would be that I prefer the Note 4.
Beast of a phone. I got this for £130 in November gearbest sale. Delivery via priority GB line will avoid the custom fees more often than not with 10-20 day timeframe . Got mine after 12 days with no customs fees . Amazing phone best value for money phone you can get. Really fast, amazing 2-3 day battery . Only downside is that camera is pretty poor to average but other than this rivals any mid range phone for me...
Note 4 for battery life A1 for software.
Note 4 plus Lineage OS probably best bet.
This is a stonkingly good little phone; especially with the 4 gig of ram. I bought one from Aliexpress a couple of months back and am really impressed with it. It's really quick, has a lovely screen, camera is half decent and it recently received an update to Mui9, which is basically Nougat with the thinnest of skins. Astonishingly good value at £120! Heat! Shipping's going to be a bit slow at this time of year but it's a great deal if you exercise a little patience.

Just lacking in camera quality. Everything else on these phones is top notch.

The camera hardware is decent on these devices and it's the software that let's it down apparently. Worth trying out a port of Google's Camera HDR+

I’ve bought 3 phones off gearbest over the last 2 months, not paid customs on any, just DO NOT select dhl shipping, just the basic priority tracked.

Sorry, I was sure there was a version that didn't but looking back you may need root or an ASOP rom. If I dig anything out I'll repost.
Fantastic phones for the money. Mrs is onto her second one, only thing I would change is for them to be waterproof lol.
When you guys say the camera is about average, would you say it's on a par with the camera on the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6?

Probably better, I've had mine a couple of weeks from the last GB sale, and think it's brilliant for the money, I had an SU6 for a couple of years but this is a definite 4/5 steps up, MIUI is OK, put Nova on and your laughing, been playing with Camera Zoom FX and it's far better to use than the stock camera app, battery's lasting 2+ days with medium usage.
Been thinking about trying an Xiaomi for a while now, I've got a Moto G4 so got used to 5.5" but just concerned about the camera, most of my photos are outdoors in decent light and I find the Moto camera to be actually pretty good compared to other phones I've had that were allegedly top notch cameras (lg g3 for example was worse than the Moto) can anyone give an opinion based on actual personal experience please ? Regards.

I chose "British Express" and had no charges. I can't see how you possibly could.using this method. It appears that it is sent to a UK location and then repackaged and sent to you - so appears as though coming from a UK sender.

I have both. The Mi A1 has a much better camera, pure Android and a more premium feel. The Redmi Note 4 has a much bigger battery and is cheaper to buy.

They are both great phones so just decide what's more important to you - battery size or camera quality.

Given the choice I would go for the Mi A1.

Some shots I took yesterday in overcast conditions with stock camera app and settings.

Got this a couple of months ago from banggood. They wrote a value of 21 dollars on the package. So I incurred £3 of vat & £8 royal mail handling fee. Anything over £15 in value u must pay vat at 20% + handling fee

Has anyone compared the camera on this to the oneplus one?.
i asked Gearbest how much they declare the value on the parcel, this is what they said:

((Thank you for contacting us.we declare goods value what the item is truly worth. We are sorry for this inconvenience.))

I bought this phone in November and it was delivered via their priority shipping method which cost no extra, after it’s shipped from China it all goes quiet with no tracking information but went it reaches DPD or yodel the shipping info starts to appear (the phone is then delivered within a day or two). There was no Chinese shipping labels on the packaging as I think it’s re bagged went it reaches this country.
if you select dhl then I believe you do end up paying vat or import duty.
i have bought 3 phones plus lots of other stuff and never had to pay any duties.
