How you can do it buddy ? Please explain the process ? Thanks in advance

There are tons of tutorials around as this is such a popular phone, I'll link a few that may be useful but there are YouTube videos showing the whole process as well.

1. Unlock bootloader (may need to wait 48-72hrs here)

2. Flash TWRP

3. Boot into TWRP, wipe the device and install your custom ROM of choice and ARM64 Gapps package (Google apps).

I use the FireHound ROM which runs Oreo 8.1, there are loads of other choices in the XDA forum;
forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/xiaomi-redmi-note-4-snapdragon-roms-kernels-recoveries--other-development

Edit - Like Daz said though, MIUI isn't bad at all, perfectly fine for most users and has some neat features.

Easily the best phone I have ever had.

The performance and battery life are phenomenal for the price and it's nice to have the headphone jack, IR blaster, SD card slot etc... Had it a week or so and very impressed.

Only downside is the camera isn't great, but still not too bad with one of the Google camera app ports on XDA.

Everything you need to know can be found here: forum.xda-developers.com/red…ent

For what its worth though MIMU isn't that bad. I have lineage on other phones and haven't bothered with this phone as don't see the need.

That said you might want to to get Google Now/pixel launcher to change to a more google look and feel

Just a word or warning here, when I myself was using a Note 4, early part of last year, all the XDA roms were beta or experimental - guessing that's probably changed now because the phones not new anymore, but I think it's a point worth making

If you're after a 'plain' Xiaomi Android experience out of of the box, there's always the Mi A1 to consider?

My Dad should have his Note 4 by the end of the week and I reckon he'll hate MIUI, it'll be his first Xiaomi, but with Nova and his preferred icon pack, he probably won't even notice it...

Heat for this deal OP, think I paid about £105 last week for a grey 32GB from Aliexpress so this isn't bad at all!

Incidentally, if anyone can link me to a stable, plain Nougat/Oreo rom, that would be great

I was considering the A1, but its around £40 more for largely the same specs and a worse battery. The camera seems slightly better and it's got USB type-c though. RN4 seemed like better value to me but the A1 is still a great choice.
Nice phone

3% topcashback for new customers gets you a little closer
I wish it had NFC
It is a good phone great value for the price. Won't compete with flagship phone last year or previous but if you want a good screen great battery decent camera then it could be form you. Took 2 weeks for delivery.

Using the same phone atm. Great device and worth every penny. Performance never disappoints , the phone is very quick and snappy. The best feature is it's battery life which last forever. It's fingerprint scanner is the best I have seen on any device. The only problem I have is with taking pictures , not the best quality. However for its price it's definitely worth it.
Just got this phone - updates to miui 9 straigh out the box
About £10 cheaper than 6 months ago when I got one. Normally hand my phone down to my parents. Tempting to buy this for my mum. Really want this to be upgraded with a bigger battery. Ones I've seen have been too big screen size or smaller battery. I flashed it with an android I found in a comment on hukd. Still gets updated so can't remember what it was. Possibly the same update everyone gets but earlier?

Ditto, but it still is the value winner in my opinion as others have said the a1 has a worse battery and you can put android or even just a launcher. A launcher is a good choice as there is no app drawer. When I move from monzo to revolut I'm going to have to take an nfc phone out with me for about 5 days in the month due to the 200 withdraw limit on Revolut but this phone has been wonderful in every way. This is the best value phone atm until something significantly better comes along.
I'm absolutely certain the RN4 will be viewed as a classic phone in the years to come. It's that good.

I'm having issues with my note 4 dropping calls, do you think a new ROM would solve this?
Like 'r9jofa' ordered the 3gb version from aliexpress a week ago, got an email saying its at my local post office, so hopefully should be delivered by the end of the week and no tax/duty to be paid
For those sceptical about Xiaomi or buying from China, here's my experience...

We've bought 5 Xiaomis to date in the family (Mi4 3 yrs ago, 2xRedmi Note3 2yrs ago and 2xRedmi Note4 4G 64GB).

Out of the 5 phones, 4 are still working, one of the Redmi Note 3 came faulty. The touch screen stopped working after about a month. I contacted seller (thru AliExpress) and they told me to send it back. Had to pay return postage (about £12 signed for) but I soon got my refund (not postage).

In all I probably lost £12 but I've saved 100s if I were to buy any phone in the UK with these characteristics.

It's heat from me on this one!
Awesome phone

This phone's camera does not come out of the box optimised for best quality photos and videos, for some reason. You have to tweak the settings to achieve better quality, although it is still not as great as flagship phones. Unfortunately I don't have the link for the settings at the moment.
I'm interested in a new phone. I have a MiMax that has taken some damage and looking at a replacement of a smaller size but I am finding it very confusing sorting through all of Xiaomis offerings. Where does this rank with the Mi A1 and the rest?

The mi a1 is a better option baring the battery you will get a smoother experience better camera usb c port charger and a better build and design phone than the Redmi Note 4.

Thanks. Leaning toward the Mi A1 or waiting for MiMax3.
Sounds great, but will it get Android 8?
Which phone is better, this one or Ulephone power 3? Looking forward to buy a new phone.

I have used nova launcher on my Note 4 X since day one,

You don't have to unlock the boot loader,

Just get it from the google play store,

You have to lock icons on the screen as mine seem to move around,

Since i locked them they don't move around,

I have only had 1 dropped call in 6 months,

The phone turned itself off mid call and reset itself,

Just be aware on the 4 X the 4GB ROM version ran an decca core (10 core) processor which really eats battery life,

I got the the 3GB ROM version of the 4 X,

That version has a snapdragon 625,

And it says i get about 23 hours on screen time per charge,

So i get 2 to 3 days of use between charges,

That is all thanks to the power efficient snapdragon 625 processor,

The best thing about this phone is overnight it only loses 1% of its battery as Xioami won't let apps run in the background updates are also stopped,

My google tablet loses 10 to 15% overnight,

Be aware as well my version was 16 GB storage and was a China version only,

I paid £112 for my Redmi Note 4 X,

The Redmi 4 X has a 4100 mah battery capacity,

A lot of the other Xiaomi phones have smaller 3000 mah batteries,

The european model was the 32 GB version which has the global ROM installed at the factory.
I really need an upgrade but not sure what to get, needs a big screen min 5.5" and needs a decent screen, camera and battery. Budget is about £300. Any suggestions?
I got one for my wife ....lots of issues sending text messages(keeps failing and then you have to reinstall the number) ..no official UK support ...and you have to set it to India
