You almost certainly need to beware this having extremely limited FDD LTE bands for use on UK/ContinentalEuropean networks
ie only "4G FDD-LTE: 1800 / 2100 MHz " per etotalk (ie Bands 3 and 1)
which means you'd get zero 4G coverage with o2 and Vodafone in the UK who use 800MHz/Band20 and 800MHz/Band20 & 2600MHz/Band7 respectively.
and have only limited coverage on 1800 MHz/Band 3 with EE/3 and miss out on their 800MHz and/or 2600MHz

PS: And for the naysayers who seem to think remarking about possible 4G Band issues isn't an issue: (A) I said beware as a site I trust said this model supports only has ONE of the THREE Bands used by the UK 4G networks; (B) If true, I also said that while you'd probably get no coverage on 2 of them, on 2 of them you should get SOME coverage; (C) Even if you do get some coverage at your normal location, you may well lose it when moving around the UK/Europe in places where your network (EE/3)
uses the other Bands.

So on the basis that the OP omitted any mention of the FDD LTE 4G Bands supported by this phone; and in the absence of anyone providing contrary information, I re-iterate my BEWARE before parting with your money that you know what you're doing.

PPS: If you're buying this to deliberately not want to use 4G, then HUKD is probably not the right forum to spend your time in as far cheaper higher spec non-4G phones out there!

Sure it's 2014. But it's also toe LTE version which is the latest...

So no 4G on Vodafone

£113 here: http://www.focalprice.com/MH1120W/Xiaomi_Hongmi_Redmi_Note_5.5_IPS_178_Viewing_Angle_GFF_Android_4.4_Qualcomm.html?Currency=GBP

You can get it even cheaper if you go with some other Chinese sites that I wouldn't recommend.

As has been already stated, the 4G on a lot of Chinese phones wont work over here. A lot of them also have issues with GPS.

Good phones but something to be aware of.

I wouldn't even find a broken one on eBay for £144.99

after reading a lot of reviews, I got a an Elephone P6000 from Gearbest:

http://m.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_122282.html

using the code P6000LG I got it for £93

its not a bad phone at all but there is other options now and the newest generation of mediatek are far far better than last years.your looking at full hd.better camera and faster 64bit lte chips now for this sort of money.

I should note that the Elephone P6000 has full uk 4G as far as I can tell. only possible downsides I could find were a slightly smaller battery, 720p not 1080p, and fewer sensors. none of which bother me for <£100.
Assuming I don't get hit by import duty that is!

Amazing phone. I have owned this for the past 2 weeks and so impressed. Previous owner of HTC One and wanted to upgrade to bigger screen. Purchased from xiaomishop EU warehouse and arrived 36hrs later.

MIUI ROM is great and much better than I imagined. Rooting and flashing custom recovery is the easiest In have found on any phone I have owned. It came with MIUI v5 installed but can upgrade to v6 if you wish. Camera is decent but not spectacular but for this price it can be forgiven as its the only slight negative of a great handset. Battery life is brilliant and far out performs and phone I have owned.

I am using this phone for a month now. No problems at all. Do not listen to ,allknowing, people who never had this mobile in their hands. 4g and GPS works with no problems. Fantastic piece od gear for a money.

4G working will depend on the network you use.

I said that GPS issues are common on Chinese phones, not necessarily this phone in particular. I thought it was worth mentioning because people are using this thread to discuss other Chinese phones.

There's some cracking bargains to be had when buying Chinese phones. But you need to know what you're getting into, especially with some of the lesser known brands. Xiaomi are very respectable but with most of the other Chinese manufacturers it's almost like they're using customers for their QA process. Software can be very buggy and some companies don't support their phones and resolve issues as best they might.

That's really good to hear. There is a lot of nit picking on this site, and not everyone needs // requires 4g - though I concede it will be limited to certain networks. This is a decent chance for someone to own a solid 'Phablet' at a low price

Would agree with this statement, and why I only put the deal on as its Xiaomi and not some of the lesser known ones that get put on here.

FYI - Xiaomi just blew Samsung out of the water in terms of Chinese phone sales

Can you recommend some around £100?

Getting slightly annoyed by the lag on my Moto G so might sell it and upgrade.

Great spec for price! I have the Oneplus One and love it, this is similar spec. So very good. Hot

Cold - not an Orange San Francisco

I have the same phone. 4G is a bit ropey with Three so I have turned it off as it just seemed to drain power, never needed it anyway. Phone is fast though, very fast. Pleased with purchase.

Have you got this now? If so, how is it?

I ordered this phone from focalprice for £113 a few weeks ago to replace my nexus 5! (because I ran out of space in a 32gb) it came yesterday:

Pro's:
-It cost near nothing
-I personally didn't get hit with import duty
-It accepts microsd 64 cards
-Very good build quality, nice box etc.
-It's surprisingly nippy, I don't notice any difference between it and my n5
-Battery life is insane.
-Hardware buttons, because I totally need those 5.5 inches
-Had no problems with anything not being supported etc.
-Although not a huge fan of the UI it actually has some randomly useful stuff.
-Camera seems pretty good so far

Cons that can be corrected:
-It doesn't have wireless charging, can be corrected by this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2014-latest-hot-sale-qi-wireless-charging-receiver-for-RedMi-Note/2035921505.html
-The back cover is so smooth I worry it will fall out of my hand, solution: get a case, or replace the back cover as theres again loads available.
-MIUI is a bit ugly if you've just come from lolipop, but then again, just put your favorite launcher and icon pack and it's mostly sorted. It seems to have unlock via bluetooth, imo one of the best bits of lolipop ( but I'm also not sure how well it works?). there are roms but no lolipop out there, there's a cyanogen around if you want that.

Cons that cant be corrected but meh:
-It's quite heavy, comparative to my n5, but that was to be expected.
-bezels are bigger than my n5, but that was to be expected
-720 screen, I noticed the difference instantly (but then again I am a graphic designer) however I soon stopped noticing, and reading on it is absolutely fine.
-Its so **** big I had to put swiftkey keyboard on one side, but that was to be expected.

Cons that are bum
- 4g wont work with o2, giff gaff, tesco, etc. (however the 3g reception is great)

Cons that cant be corrected and I wish I'd known about before purchasing:
- Heavyish + slidey back, until I get a cover I worry It'l slip out of my hands ( buy a cover when you buy the phone)

****but those cons are easssilllyyy overrun by the fact that the phone costs SO LITTLE. - get it from focalprice and risk possible import charges, its still cheaper than amazon. £113 for mine! ****

Other notes:
- Full size sim port, you can actually put a microsim in it and get it back out again easily, or just buy an adapter from ebay for 99p.
- Although battery life is AMAZING, you can get a spare battery for £3.80 here focalprice.com/MB0…GBP which is just awesome. (From China- not ordered but bought the phone from here)
- Tempered glass screen protector FOR £1.89 here: ebay.co.uk/itm…AIT (From China, delivery took about a week for me)
- I bought this case: banggood.com/Qui…tml because it looks good quality and grippy. DISCOUNT CODE: 15BGSF (6%off) (From China, delivery is usually about 2 weeks with BG)
- To upgrade to miui 6 ( a bit of an ios rip) go here: en.miui.com/a-2…tml

Conclusion:
Very happy with my purchase.

Hope that's useful to some potential purchasers, PM me any messages and I'll edit this with replies.

I was a little bit concerned at first but the £130.00 off retail was too tempting. My tablet arrived in perfect condition without a single mark on it. I registered it with Samsung without any problems I just had to select 'other seller'. I now have Samsung's full 2 years manufacturer's warranty, plus the seller also provided a 1 year retailer's warranty.Edit:Just re-read your post again. I noticed that you intend on keeping it for a year until the Note 5 comes out. Why not save some money and buy a Note 3? I will not be upgrading my Note 3 until the Note 5 comes out, as I do not have the need of a heart rate monitor and Samsung's finger print scanner is still a little flaky, I have stopped using it on my Tab S.As for the improved screen, honestly, on a 5 inch screen you are not going to notice the difference unless you sit side by side with a Note 3 looking for the difference.

I had a note 3 just sold it last week for £250 so I've only had to add £169 which is not bad. my contract ended in October I think so ill be entitled to a free upgrade, I'll be choosing the note 5 and sell this note 4.

Quick question, how did you get on with a SIM card? I have a nano sim, could I use the SIM adaptors?

Yeah you can use an adapter, as its actually more like some of the older phones where the sim is inserted on the inside ( I guess other models do this too but not iphones or my nexus 5) you can just put a microsd up in the slot and still get it out without putting it in an adapter, but for 99p on ebay it's probably a good idea ( I just shoved my microsim in :P)
