Snapdragon 636 and Android 8??? Remember we are now going into 2020. This phone is potentially obsolete in a few hrs time. For same money you can get mid range/budget Samsung or Motorola
Never understood the obsession with the trolls saying "oh, phone X cant update to Android Y".

Does that stop them making calls?

Bought one for my daughter for Christmas for this price, great phone for the price, really impressed with it
Wouldn't the latest 8t be better for £20 more?

Have this phone. It's great and for the price you won't get better. Decent camera and great battery life.

Xiaomi do regular updates of the software as well.

How is this great? With Snapdragon 636 and 32GB onboard HD + Android 8.
Looks good to me. I'm still rocking LG G5 as has replaceable battery. It has a snapdragon 820. This 636 seems pretty similar - unlike most of the budget chinese phones I look at at this price where they are inferior.

Same as most tech bought these days especially phones, can't see the point in trying to keep up it's mainly for vanity reasons anyway .
So, what is the best phone for under 150?

Bought this when it cam on at end of Nov, mainly as a gym/running/backup phone.

Got to say, for £100 it's incredible. Even the MiUI skin is pretty decent.

Camera is decent, in that it's a tenth of the price of the latest iPhone but the pictures aren't 10x worse.

Kids? Spare phone? Gym phone? Just like to mess about with tech? You'd do a lot worse than getting one of these.

Ohh, and iirc - updated to Android 9 straight out the box.
No PayPal though

This phone wont be obsolete, such nonsense. If we look at what we use phone for ,calls, photos, texting, whatsapp, youtube etc. We dont use them for anything overly sophisticated. Updates are hardly noticeable. If you want a phone for bragging rights "mines bigger newer faster than yours" (yup there are narcissists like that still) then this phone is not for you.

Absolute bargain for mere mortals.

Measly 3GB?

Honestly....

There needs to be an emote for a moon on a stick
This is note 5. I bought one 2 yrs ago from China, and the price was about £110. Now they have Note 6, note 6 pro, note 7, note 7 pro, note 8, note 8 pro, k20, k20 pro, k30. So you know how old it is.
I've had one of these for roughly a year now, having had a Note 4X prior.

It looks pretty much like a notched iPhone to the average punter, and works excellently. You might get some odd bods complaining that it doesn't run like a flagship, but it's £100 or so new so why would it?

It's far superior to anything the normal lot offer at that price (Huawei/Samsung/Moto)

It isn't - it's the Note 6 Pro. The Note 5 doesn't have a notch, or dual front cameras etc.

I've had one of these for the last year. Totally unbeatable for the price. Regular updates and pretty decent performance all round. I don't think there's a better phone out there new for under £100.

I shouldn't respond to trolls but here goes:

1. 32GB in a budget phone is fine, particularly if it has an SD card slot. Most phones under £100 have 16GB storage.
2. Yes it ships with Android 8, but will update to 9 OTA immediately. Updates to Android 10 are planned. Xiaomi have a history of timely and reliable updates.
3. Snapdragon 636 is fine. Benchmarks and real world performance are mid-range. You'll struggle to fine a phone with a quicker chipset for under £100.
4. "For the same money...." - show me a Samsung phone for under £100 with this performance. I'll help you out... it's impossible. The cheapest Samsung is the A10 which retails for £140 and has crept down to £100 once. The performance and specs are miles below this phone in every area. (gsmarena.com/com…333).

I'm certainly not saying this is the best phone available... If you can stretch to £130-£140 you'll get something clearly better, as you'd expect if you were spending 40% more.
ItsFrazer01/01/2020 12:37

No PayPal though

Paypal runs fine... as do other money apps such as HSBC mobile banking. Both allow fingerprint login.

There's no NFC so you can't use Google Pay contactless (Most budget phones are designed for India and China where this isn't in use).

This is gonna be my last post on this matter and FYI stop tagging my posts as trolling....
Its frustrating when people like you make all sorts of unsubstantiated claims usually backing up their claims by citing unreliable and biased websites like gsm arena!
If you did your research, you would have discovered there are better spec'ed Motorolas, Nokias and even cheaper Samsung and iphones at this price point when you go down the used/refurbished market.

Good god... GSM arena is biased. I pasted a link to a spec sheet - is there an error in it?

I had a hunch you were referring to 2nd hand. Apples and oranges.... This is a brand new phone. I've been down the line of buying 2 year old Samsungs before and I never will again as used/refurbs don't last.

You're the only one in the thread making unsubstantiated claims, which seems to have been done for a reaction rather than to contribute to the discussion. As an owner of this phone I felt I had something useful to say. I'm sorry if I mistook your polemicism as trolling.
