Righty, i got mine earlier this week, all good, cameras need a software upgrade but passable, performance is great and battery life is silly, im getting to 53% after 2 DAYS of general use...the only issue is this, and its well documented:

Wifi does not stay connected all the time, it annoyingly drops out, it shows as connected but when you wake the handset up and go to the web its connection drops and there is no telling when it drops, its an annoying little foible thats been documented for a good few months, the solution is a system update which Xiaomi swear works, however this update is at Beta stage and not due for a few months yet, if you can manage with this then this price is excellent...another solution is to have both wifi and mobile data on, however that may not suit everyone...
Heat for the price but Xiaomi have dropped the ball on this wifi isue for sure!
It comes with a European charger and mine was not grey it is Metallic blue. I sent Amazon a msg on chat asking if they could send me a UK charger and also mentioned that the phone was not as described as mine was blue.. They would not send out a UK charger but if I wanted I could send the phone back for a full refund. I told them not to worry I will keep the phone but I suggested they update the description to say it comes with a European charger and is Metallic blue. Then in a complete turn around the Amazon advisor offers me a full refund and I keep the phone! Result! £180 back in my bank account. They put it down as damaged in transit 😁. So always worth a little complaining if the item you receive is totally not as described.

Much better than note 8 pro? Price wise ideal thanks for spending my £££
Currently have a Samsung S8 but looking for a new phone, would you recommend this as a replacement or possible upgrade?

Its better, not a massive margin
I'm wondering when the Note 9 Pro might be available on Amazon (and what price)...

Funnily I've just been having this conversation earlier, the wife is currently using this exact phone and has experienced none of those issues to date

Loads of complaints about the WiFi issue .
Also bad reports on the cameras but thats the case with most Xiaomi phones.
But for sub £200 its got some great specs.
But the camera is very important to me on a phone.

Camera again my wife prefers it over her mix 3 5g
Maybe because she's constantly wowed by the wide angle
Great spot as usual, brilliant phone, never had any WiFi issues, connects first time and never drops, buy this phone and you won't regret it

8 pro has NFC, 9s doesn't.

Really weird, theres quite a bit out there on this but i was unaware until it started doing it on our device, its not a dealbreaker for me, the handset is easily worth the money, and more IMO....
How bad are the ads/bloatware on miui? Specs seem great on this but coming from an old Nokia 8 with stock Android I don't fancy messing on with custom ROMs just to get an unobtrusive experience

On my Note 5 I've only ever seen an advert on the Xiaomi security scan app which checks apps once they've installed (I've since disabled this app) - otherwise nothing has been seen. I am using Nova Launcher as I dislike the MiUi so results may be different if you use the default MiUi interface.

Looks like, if nothing whilst, they've sorted out the colour - no more, interstellar blue

I have Mi 9 and don't find ads a pain at all, they only alter in the odd inbuilt app, I don't use thier browser or calendar, so main place is when you install an app on the completed screen you get an ad for another

Also ways to disable or reduce but updates can bring them back
Not had any wifi issues with mine..and the camera is really good for the price.40833208-1QT0Z.jpgI use Gcam for the camera app which is better than the stock app. cheers.

I have the same problem, but I also can't get my Ebay notifications immediately either if the app is closed. I get a payapl one, then I have to open the Ebay app, and I get them all at once. Lol, if just missed one now! I have tried the settings in the app and on the device, but it only doesn't work on the Ebay app. Any ideas?
This or TCL 10L
MrSwitch22/05/2020 12:14

This imo

Tough call, i'm using the Xiaomi Mi 8 atm, but it has some performance issues (disconnects from sim randomly).

I'm more tempted by the TCL but this has been on my radar for a while.
Got mine a few days ago, also haven't had this wifi issue.

Like the other commenter I'm using gcam, can't complain, the camera(s) are fantastic.

That could be a battery optimisation issue, a notification access issue or a permission issue.

Type in battery on the search screen off the settings menu, make sure the battery is allowing the ebay app to autostart & auto start other apps, make sure notifications for ebay are enabled and the allow ebay permissions to access stuff like messages, phone etc so that the notifications comes through - also make sure your app settings allow the notifications too..should work after this lot

Thank you, your a legend. I've made 3 adjustments, giving eBay 100% active status (i.e. screw the battery when it comes to this app :). Thanks. Now to wait to see if anything happens........

Maybe a bit too much info, but is it normal for an app to over take the screen in power consumption??

?? I use bloomin' shpock about once every 2 days, if that! Maybe once a week!
Shpock obviously has permissions and unrestricted battery, go into the battery settings and refuse it access to open automatically, its running in the background by the looks of that usage chart

It's the keep WiFi on setting this is on my p20 pro see if it's an option?
