Great battery too 4100mAh

I bought one of these on a previous deal from gearbest and I'm pleased with it.
One thing though - on the set up stages there is no UK region option. I found out a lot of comments on this online and set it to France. It doesn't affect anything I've found so far but if anyone knows how to set it to UK then please tell us. (An update from Xiaomi did not do the trick.)

Thanks

its been cheaper before

looking at getting one of these for the old man, are they any good? whats the quality like? and will an older person get on with it? he has had a iphone 4 for the last few years

Just ordered, thanks :-)

Unfortunately, I missed the cheaper offer and so, I'm seriously tempted. However, will express shipping attract the attention of customs, which will add a chunck of dosh to the purchase price? Nevertheless, a lot of phone for the money, have some heat.

My Mi max and Redmi phones did not have Uk options either, i just chose Falklands and like you said it changes nothing , after an update on my mi max the uk option is there and will likely be if you buy global version of phones.

What's your MIUI version? The RN4 Snapdragon out of the box, would be on Marshmallow without UK as a region, but it should have been added once it's updated to Nougat. Hence people noticed it missing during initial setup, but it appears after updating: hotukdeals.com/com…131

I don't know. It says Android version 7.0 NRD90M on the about phone settings screen.

I ordered this exact phone from a different sit (AliExpress) a while back at £150 and didn't have to pay any extra customs. I had a look online before buying and it seemed like a few people did get hit by it but most were OK so odds are you'd be fine but it's not guaranteed.

Very happy with the build quality on mine, biggest issue I've had is finding a screen protector for it because the edge of the screen has a small curve but it's been fine without one for months now. If he's used to using an iPhone it might be a bit of a learning curve getting used to using android instead (also means he won't have access to the Apple app store/ apps he purchased there on it - android has Google Play Store instead). Also the Xiaomi Mi software on the phone is a bit of a faff, not overly complicated but could be confusing for someone not particularly tech savvy.

In terms of hardware power (especially the battery life) you'll be hard pressed to find anything equitable at this price but a user who doesn't play intensive mobile games or use their phone much beyond calls, texts, browsing, and the odd photo much would probably be alright with something cheaper and an iPhone would make for an easier transfer in this (albeit at a much higher price tag).

It should say MIUI version just below Android version: en.miui.com/thr…tml

Android 7 on RN4 would mean it's either 8.5 or 9.0 so it's strange that yours still doesn't have UK despite having been updated.

There is no way from what I've seen, that said if you set it to India you will get updates as they come apparently. India is their main/popular market.

I, patriotically, set mine up to Falklands. It now reads "United Kingdom (system)" [settings, additional settings, region] so it must, at some point, have done it itself.

I have found on this as well as other Chinese phones can't get otg to work. I've installed mi suite on my computer but it won't detect the phone. Maybe it's because of the miui
Custom ROM but I've got a wireless network card or you can use superbeam WiFi direct if you have another phone. Other than that though it's great.

I don't understand at all; I plug mine in and it asks what I want to do via USB on the phone- default is charge only. I tell it file transfer and it shows the internal and SD card. I have not tried MIUI suite, but I would only really want that for back up of the phone and mostly that is done to the MiCloud.
