This is the 1st gen. 2nd gen aqara version is better as it comes with a swivel stand and has daytime/nighttime detection.

It is, but it's zigbee. Can be added to Smartthings to control your smart home.

Hi. The swivel stand is no good to me. Does day night work with Smartthings?
I have motion sensors...am thinking of a use for these...I don't have pets. What benefit will this have over a motion sensor? Just that it doesn't set off for pets?

It's a motion sensor. But the 1st gen, as stated.
The 2nd gen also has a lux sensor, so it can be set up to trigger at a certain light level, ie gone dark, switch on a light.
Here's the info, it has been a couple of quid cheaper before, wait for a promo

Cheers, I guess I don't need another motion sensor...I thought these were different to motion...I.e. you can stay still and the light will remain on.

I have the gen 2 version and have it set so when triggered the light will turn on and remain on for 15 mins.... (Active between 5pm>7am) Any movement within that time will "reset" the 15 mins. Have it in the kitchen - never use the switch now.
Will this and the gateway work with the Yeelight bulbs?
Better get the gen2 with illumination sensor and a stand for similar price when it's on sale.

Yeah but can she turn the kettle on when she detects movement? That's the real question.
I have 3 of these, they work extremely well with SmartThings.
Good price ...normally about 8 to 10

You sure on this with ST? about to buy a few if it is. You got a link to a device handler for it?
Damn smart homes.. I'm running out of use cases for gadgets like this!

FWIW here's my work-in-progress smartthings dashboard on ActionTiles - controllable from phones, desktop or a wall-mounted tablet in the kitchen. It's all automated though so lights, security etc all trigger on timings or events without any need to manually control them.

The main thing I'm missing is a smartthings device that will trigger an alert when the car has finished charging (i.e. the KWh drops below a threshold).

This is awesome, are your front door and windows robotic?

Just Aqara sensors that act as home/away sensors as well as alarm triggering alarms depending on the Mode. It also triggers when something has been left open for a while (say the front door open for 5 minutes) or if windows left open while we are away from home. Part of the reasoning is to stop my wife asking "did I close the windows?" when we are 10 minutes into our road trip.

I keep hovering over a Yale Conexis L1 Smart Lock but the reviews are mixed.

The cameras are Arlo with some smartthings sensors but the majority are now Xiaomi Aqara ones which work well after setting up the device handlers. Air quality is monitored by a Foobot which sends a reminder to open a window if the air quality drops. There are leak detectors under the dishwasher/kitchen sink and in the bathroom. Not everything is online or dashboarded yet.

Yes you can. There is a custom device handler to install to get it to work. Easy enogh if you do some googleing
Hi guy's i have 1 question.
I want to add smart switch in my hallway. I have 2 double switch on ground floor to control ground and 1st floor hallway lighting. Upstairs i have 1 single switch for 1st floor, 1 double switch for ground floor and 1st floor lights and another double switch for 1st floor and loft lighting.

Would it be ok to add just 1 smart double switch downstairs that can communicate with other standard switches to control ground and 1st floor lights?

Can you explain to me the benifts of having these child devices connected via smart things compared to the Xiaomi Gateway/hub

Can you explain to me the benifts of having these child devices connected …Can you explain to me the benifts of having these child devices connected via smart things compared to the Xiaomi Gateway/hub

I'm sure the Xiaomi Gateway/hub is just fine and probably an easier solution for most. My reasons for SmartThings:

1. Security. I'm wary about all IoT devices but slightly more so about Chinese servers (although traffic can be routed anywhere these days). They all go on a locked down guest network and use accounts that have limited permissions.

2. Configurability. The SmartThings community has a very strong community that are producing device integration along with various hacks to make use of sensors in novel ways and for other devices (Nest, Foobot, etc). This takes a bit of patience to figure out how to use the Smartthings IDE but the instructions are very clear. I think this community will carry on integrating new devices in an 'open' manner in the future.

3. Investment. I had already got the SmartThings hub so stuck with integrating devices into that rather than having two hubs in place. That said, we have all seen how certain providers introduce service charges at a later date - which would be very annoying now I am so invested.

All that said, I am fortunate that I am techie and have disposable income and opportunity to mess around with this kit. In many cases I have the urge to make things 'Smart' but they just end up being a waste of time/money. I would encourage others to concentrate on what the cost-benefits are to them.
Many thanks.
I have been adding child devices to my Xiaomi Hub during the past few weeks and feel it works well.

I have hive active heating, could this be added to SmartThings? That would be a plus - having everything on one hub. I cannot add hive to the mihome app.

How mine looks at the moment, have a few more things on order.

For those wondering about SmartThings and these Xiaomi devices, I can tell you they work perfectly together. Use these Device Handlers and you'll thank me I use the temp/motion/door/water ones and they are great. The only issue is the battery checking isn't perfect yet, but it's definitely getting better.

Yes that is correct. Also as has been mentioned numerous times, you can't use the xiaomi gateway with Alexa/google assistant..... Yet. This is because it makes you use the Chinese server and China doesn't allow google. Really like the xiaomi gateway but thinking about getting the ST one so I can actually integrate it with everything else.

Cool world we live in now

No - but there is with SmartThings. Some clever chaps are working it out over at that link I posted previoulsy. At the moment the temp sensor works fine, the rest report 100% but it's coming.... here's a screenshot of the Xiaomi sensors with SmartThings my phone (no Xiaomi Gateway).

Very interesting. Was the first picture you posted of the actual app? SmartThings?

Can you use Alexa to control Xiaomi items via ST?

Like Elliot stated above we have to use the China server for the Xiaomi Gateway - which is not comparable (yet) with Alexa
The picture above is smartthings. I didn't post any other images! Alexa won't control these Xiaomi devices yet since they don't do anything that useful. I mean, you can link ST to Alexa - so any routines in there can be fired off with Alexa, and those routines may contain Xiaomi sensors. I've not tried tbh.

How did you get it to do this? I couldn't see an option in the mi home app. I have the gen2 sensor
Hi all. I have taken delivery of 2 of these on a previous deal. I have set up a scene with the mi home app for a Phillips xiaomi light to switch on, but can seem to set one up to switch it off when there has been no movement for a certain time as the scenes are in Chinese. Anyone had any joy?
