Great little camera, won't get anything better for the money! Thought it'd be worth sharing as it was £85 everywhere else. Will be trying it out when I take it on a trip to Thailand in a few weeks

Like saying my old 14" portable tv is similar to my 40" flatscreen because I can watch tv on them both.
One is inferior to the other.

People forget the point of this site. Is this post a deal because the price is better than anywhere else? Yes.

While opinion into the quality of the item is usually welcome it shouldn't impact how people vote.

Thank you OP

Take a look at the review and sample video then compare it to the GoPros sub £250

I agree tbh. I've owned the original yi camera.

And being an ex owner of a gopro hero 4 black. the difference in both cameras aren't that far off.

There's quality difference between the two of course, but it wasn't much to really beat up either camera. (gopro was a tad easier to use with its remote control distance etc, better wifi etc).

The gopro price points are really high, and don't always justify the quality difference between the two.

If I were to drop £60 on a really good action camera or £300 on gopro latest model. I'd personally pick the yi, as I know I barely used the gopro (ruined my ankle 3 weeks after buying it and sold it 4 months later) and the Yi camera was more than enough with its 720/120 setting (shame sound wasn't recorded at this setting).

Yi is made by xiaomi company, not the same thing you taking about. I guess you are one of the GoPro owners?!

It's more like comparing a 40" tv with a 40" tv that has slightly less features at a third of the price.
It's inferior, yes, however it's still similar to a GoPro. It shoots (true) 2k images, video in 1080p @ 60fps, time-lapse, regular updates and support from a legitimate company, an app that works on both iOS and Android and at £61 that's rather good.

It is a decent camera, trust tech radar..

Final verdict

The Yi action camera stands as a real GoPro alternative. The base unit is incredibly affordable and even when adding the cost of a waterproof housing and other accessories the Yi still comes in at a price that is a fraction of the market leaders.

Amongst other budget action cameras, the Yi singles itself out as something different, with a wealth of video options that are backed by exceptional video quality and frame rates. When compared directly to the market leaders, the feature set and build quality might lag behind slightly but considering the price and quality of video, the Yi is presently GoPro's most dangerous rival.

Once you add on the extras the initially low price rises, but even taking into account the cost of a roll bar mount and waterproof housing, the cost still comes in at less than that of most other decent budget action cameras. Video quality is excellent and unlike many of its rivals the quality of footage at all resolutions and frame rates is perfectly usable and closely rivals that of the GoPro, something no other budget camera can do.

If you're looking for a cheap but decent action camera, then you really cannot go wrong with the Yi.

WTF has the GoPro got to do with you doing in your ankle and then selling it ?

With a couple of scripts (from dashcamtalk) you can get some incredible footage with this, it makes other generic Chinese cameras look like junk, shame the prices have gone up, was only £44 over a year ago.

I recommend 1080P 30 fps, 30mbps bitrate and enable 4gb files. Then tweak the rest as you see fit.

I didn't use the point that my ankle being injured effected my opinion of the camera.

Also, my words "as I know I barely used the gopro" and then explained why I didn't use the gopro. (Bought it to record sports, was Injured, couldn't use it to record my sports)

I just stated I owned a gopro for a short while and had sold it off because I injured myself. It's money better spent else where instead of it sitting in a draw.
