I don't see how Darksiders 3, Bioshock 2 or any of the Borderlands games are 'retro'. And that's only the top of the list!

So you missed where it says '+ more end of year reductions' then...
Someone in Sony US remembered they still sell PS3 games - heat

Sometime next year they'll be from 2 console generations ago. Yikes.

Previous gen, that's all it takes. When you go to EGX now the PS3 and Xbox 360 are in the 'retro' section with things like Guitar Hero.

The banner on PSN says RETRO in huge bold letters. Just seems odd, that's all.

Not a criticism of you or the deal. Some good prices in there, especially on some of the (not actually retro by any stretch) 'retro' games, like Overcooked and Sine Mora EX.

Bizarre. I guess those born in this millennium have only known the era of 3D + HD graphics, wireless controllers, gaming headsets, persistent online connectivity etc. So games like Mega Man and Street Fighter would seem positively prehistoric, let alone retro!
Savings aren't very big??... not a great sale imho

More a throwaway culture these days, I think people are now conditioned to update their consoles, tv's, phones, cars etc much quicker than before.

PS3 and Xbox 360 being classed as retro is ridiculous, I can understand ps2 but not the ps3.

The industry is also very young, and extremely quick moving. Even if you go all the way back to the Magnavox Odyssey and Pong, the entire history of gaming is less than 50 years old, and it took 15-20 years to get a significant number of games that weren't extemely primitive and/or rudimentary.

In 1990, games looked like Super Mario Bros. 3, Smash TV and The Secret of Monkey Island. In 2000 they looked like Jet Set Radio, Paper Mario and The Sims. In 2010, they looked like God of War 3, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Fallout New Vegas. In 2020, they're going to look like Cyberpunk 2077, Half Life: Alyx and Final Fantasy 7: Remake.

Bioshock 2 may seem like it came out last week, but a decade is a hell of a long time in video games.

(now Darksiders 3, there's no excuse for that.)
If you were born in the mid 80s, when you left secondary school you'd have seen these gens through your childhood:

The back end of Nes/MS
Snes/Megadrive
PS1/Saturn/N64
PS2/DC/Xbox/GCN

If you were born in the mid 00s you'd have probably been introduced to games well into the 360/PS3 gen and only ever saw the actual launch of the PS4/X1. The difference isn't anywhere near as mind blowing either.

I genuinely feel bad for kids now. The jump from 2D to 3D was incredible (if primative which we weren't aware of at the time). The jump from PS1 quality graphics to Dreamcast was to me the biggest leap in consoles I think we'll ever see. It was simply impossible to go back to enjoying PS1 quality visuals after playing the likes of Powerstone, Soul Calibur and Crazy Taxi.

Depending on who you ask, you might get a different answer to certain questions such as:

1. When does next gen become current gen, as the term 'next gen' seems to be used well into a console's lifecycle beyond the initial launch.

2. When does current gen become past gen, as there is always a transitional period between old and new consoles where cross format games are released.

3. And then, related to this thread, when does past gen become retro.... There doesn't seem to be a clear definition on what retro is when it comes to video games. It clearly means different things to different people although to me it's anything two generations or older.
"Retro" hahahahah

Means different things to different people, your humour is lost on me.
"L.A. Noire PS3 $14.99 £11.39"

think that deserves its own deal post.

Agreed retro is anything last gen and before it could be the first system a person remembers. When I was a kid paperboy was probably retro gaming even now I don’t see sticking the mega drive on as too retro people just tend to see anything up to 32 bit retro but depending on when you were born but games like call of duty world at war are like 11 years old now people will remember online games now as retro.

Exactly that, I’m old enough to recall playing Pong but it’s all about context, as you say for the youth of today anything last gen could well be considered retro

Wholeheartedly agree with this. I remember the day I bought my Dreamcast after saving for months. Missed the launch week as I'd not quite saved enough, but man was it worth it, firing up Sonic Adventure and Power Stone (about time for a third installment?!) for the first time. I was totally blown away!
MK XL is a good price. Would probably get it if I could be bothered with trying to remember my US password, buying US credit etc.
Does anyone know if Atelier Dusk Trilogy Deluxe has Japanese voices? I'm considering pre ordering.
