"Previously known as Sony Ericsson ST25i Kumquat"

questions if i may :

1. Where was it known as that ?

2. What is a kumquat ?

is that it !!
from the first line of the OP i thought it was an essential ingredient of the phone,

just goes to show you can't trust anything you read !!
good find

Xperia F U
Is there anything comparable in terms of specs at a similar price?
My daughter got this to replace a broken San Fransisco 2, nad it only has 4 gig built in AND NO micro sd card slot, and was a fair bit laggier and clunkier to use. needless to say it went back and was replaced with another SF2. But on the plus side it did look nice, just not very useable as soon as you fill up the 4 gig on board memory, Must be like owning an Iphone
It is such a nice phone that it just makes it all the more annoying that they messed it up simply by not having a microSD slot. Crazy. I like these smaller phones with the sub 4" screens. I'm really liking my Xperia Ray and I'm hoping this lack of expandable storage doesn't become a habit because I do like Sony-Ericsson phones generally. Please Sony, enough of the madness!
If I wanted an unlocked one, which network's one should I go for? I won't need the top up.

The G300 is around £100 so not really the same price as this.

Mate has one at work, it's a nice phone. Great at this price I'd say if there's the upgrade to ICS.

Tried to order, apparently not available on-line...

arghhh just ordered this on contract yday!
good price. saw it at cex Grade A for £150, or three £150 plus £10 top up.

Phones4u should be unlocked

There's the £6.90 sim only deal at three....or in the hounslow branch a manager's offer where you get 3 months off the 12 months refunded..effectively bringing the price to £5.60ish

on tmobile upgrade i got it for £15.80, 24 month. 300 mins, 300 texts, 500mb(no bill if go over), Tmobile talk booster

good
dual core 1ghz,
good GPU,
ICS
2gig for apps (same as my galaxy s2)
bravia screen
dedicated camera button
looks different and awesome

bad
512ram
battery isn't good for a 3.5inch but not awful
only 4gb internal storage, no expandable. so can't carry music as there will be no room for anything else

You get the HTC desire c at a similar price (which is a piece of crap)

the samsung galaxy ace 2 for a lot more. (which is 800mhz dual core, 768ram, bigger pentile(bad) screen, expandable memory), better battery. But that's significantly more money for some reason. reviews are low though. NovaThor U8500 is the chipset-never heard of it.. probably why.

You should really put "+ £10 Top up" in the title and in the price..

It actually has 8gb built-in.

2gb reserved for system an OS, 2gb for apps and 4gb for media.
does it have ICS?
Someone needs to change the price to 144.96.
Really like this phone and it should be future proof for a while as it has dual core processor which is more than powerful enough for anyone. But i got a g300 for the wife and cannot see myself buying a phone with smaller than 4" screen now. But this is hot because of the price and the phone is amazing
i was in trafford centre p4u and i saw this at 116... with a payg upgrade????

Another G300 comparison here … Another G300 comparison here http://geekaphone.com/compare/Huawei-Ascend-G300-vs-Sony-Xperia-U

I like on that comparison the sony wins on storage... so does the fact that the Huawei have an SD card and the Sony does not, not matter then ?
no SD but for an 8gb 3.5" Dual Core Sony with warranty, hot

Thought it was 4gb ??

Yep reckon my single core (but nippy) 2gb with 32gb memory card (for £12) and warranty just won't cut it ;-)

Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray is about £150 unlocked, worse processor but has an SD slot and a better camera (8MP).

I was just looking for a similar low to medium priced Android and after trying them I ended up opting for a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S for a more pricey £200.
Had this phone for a few weeks, on the whole I really like it and would definately recommend it, it's slighly smaller in screen size but chunkier in feel than your average smartphone so it fits well in your pocket yet feels very sturdy. Never really had any glitches, downloads are smooth and calls are clear. The battery life is ok, I use it for an average of calls, texts and internet and it tends to last until the end of the day ok. The camera is so so, I wouldn't want to use it as my main snapper, but as an occasional back up it's fine. The one thing to be careful of, if you like surfing or texting (and you have fingers that are more like cumberlands than chipolatas), it is quite a small screen and can make hitting the right button as well as viewing website less than ideal. Other thing to be wary of is the lack of expandable memory but I don't think this would affect the average user.

4gb accessible but 8gb in total. These days a single core compared to a dual core quality-build specially for heavy apps like browsers just won't cut it for many of us.
The payg upgrade price for this is from £116.96. Seen it was this price on Orange payg upgrade, not sure about the other networks.

hotukdeals.com/dea…079

Also I seen the Sony Xperia Play was from £116.96 on payg upgrade aswell.

Well I bought the Huawei G300 and its excellent, very fast and runs anything I throw at it. Not bad for £73
My understanding is that the Xperia U is a stripped down version of the Xperia S (which IS the one to have)??

Good for you
Thanks OP, bought one this evening. The guy in P4U said all their phones are sim-free. I rang another branch before-hand just to double check and they said the same thing.

I bought a £10 Orange SIM to use for Orange Wednesdays. I'm on an O2 contract which I shall be using with this Xperia and it is only costing me £11.50 for 300mins, 500MB and unlimited text.

Thanks again!
