Yep, I have an old N5010 bought from the Dell outlet many years ago, original i3 chip, still does everything I ask of it. Have considered replacing it on many occasions - simply to get something 'newer' - but, as someone who touch-types I need a good keyboard, and all the newer ones I've seen and tried have crap keyboards. Also, I'm still on W7, everything Windows after that is garbage imo.

Wow this is amazing.

Excellent deal!

I've had a reply from them regarding warranty, it is 1 year from the time of purchase since its a Dell refurb. If you need to use the warranty then Dell will ask for proof of purchase to work out the 1 year warranty expiry. Since the laptop doesnt know its a refurb you can ignoire the warrenty expiry date on the Dell software according to XSOnly.

Received mine, great condition warranty runs out in June on mine.

since you want a 15inch, my recommendation is a Dell Precision 7510, this is a powerful machine and will make your son happy. The price is not £350 but you can get it for like £500. Get this and sell his old machine. A couple of these are on fleasbay for around 800 but an offer of 500 might do it.

Ok, give me till tomorrow and I will post some feedback. I notice his old HP had an AMD processor, an update will be a machine with an Intel processor, possible 8GB ram, 64bit OS machine and def a Win 10

Hi I'm looking for a refurbished laptop for my son 15",he has an HP that's 4 years old that is slow here's his old laptop ,so want an improvement on that, would like an ssd,is there anything you could recommend please,he does play games but I haven't got gaming laptop money so just something well made and nippy would be fine as he is in his last year of school and would be good to have something newer for college,I have £350 budget for refurbished laptop

I bought mine to replace an i5 powered Thinkpad x240 and it performs just as well. It is a very good performing laptop and quiet slim. Backlit keypad. Very easy to upgrade by taking the back off. 12 month Dell warranty. Plus unbelievably good support from XSonly. Ignore the ill informed comments on the CPU.

Hi - yes keyboard is backlit with 2 brightness levels to select from. Dave

Thanks, that's really useful. I'd ordered some memory with the specs you posted. I was just puzzled by the fact that Intel themselves suggested that spec of RAM wasn't supported! I'll try the online memory checker to see what's installed already when it arrives, so I can return what I bought if it doesn't match.

Yes, it's got the 4415U CPU. I've found one of the most reliable sources for memory information the Crucial website (uk.crucial.com) which shows the memory for the Dell Inspiron 13 5378 as "DDR4 PC4-19200 • CL=17 • Single Ranked • x8 based • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR4-2400 • 1.2V" They also have an on-line memory checker which you can run that shows what's currently fitted and what upgrades are possible. While the processor itself may support a variety of memory types (which is why the info from Intel gives a number of different types) , a specific chipset and BIOS will generally only support a limited type.

Thanks. Is yours the 4415U model? I'm confused because on the Intel website, it states that this processor only supports DDR4-2133, LPDDR3-1866, DDR3L-1600. But yours recognised the DDR4-2400 fine right?

10% slower than 1060 6gb, not worth of upgrade it in my opinion

I haven't seen anyone run it on one of these. It might be possible. However you're better doing a self build and using https://www.tonymacx86.com/ guides for choosing compatible components.

Performs similar to a 3GB GTX 1060, so a mixture of medium/high/max settings at 1080p in modern games. Enough grunt to push 4K on some 4/5 year old titles. Depends on your definition of good I suppose. It'll play any game, with a few sacrifices.

Pointless question as it makes little sense without context. However giving you the benefit of the doubt, this is a lightweight laptop with potentially decent battery life, the Omen is a gaming laptop and for a different purpose in comparison to this one. The question you should have asked would include the purpose for which you want a laptop for and then that would enable people to help you decide.

i'm an idiot, sorry

It does include a power supply "New plain Asus brown box with PSU and mains cable. "

Two have come in stock

Arrived and like new with Ethernet adapter and power lead all in a big brown box along with and a nice little pouch. Great service from XSOnly who I'd never used before. They emailed me after the order informing me of a slight delay due to popularity and before delivery. I too opted for the Obsidian Stone (grey with a purple hue). Cheers OP.

Cheers, I did the same. Cycle count 2, capacity 45030mWh.

My two arrived. They're both slightly purple, which I wasn't expecting. Is this their version of black? Also, one of them was already switched on and was running a bunch of test tools. Maybe they forgot to wipe it? I can't open apps or seem to do anything in this strange mode. I've emailed them to ask what's going on.

Hi, After some advice if you could spare a minute. I am going travelling and want something portable and easy to use in small spaces e.g. On planes but can also be used for basic laptop functions. I am currently considering either a 2in1 like above or getting a tablet and adding a keyboard. My main uses will be; watching movies, using the internet and storing photos/videos. I am happy to get an external hard drive to use for most storage but want something that I could connect camera and hard drive to so I can do a photo dump every now and then. Other then that it doesn't need to be overly fast or fancy as I don't use large graphic software etc. Been searching a while now so any ideas would be appreciated. Budget is £500 max soca bit limiting. Alternatively would look at small sized laptops up to 13"

Anyone had to return an item to this company before? I'm tempted to get one of the refurb XPS 12's but in case I'm not happy with the condition or its performance I want to be able to return it, they've come back to me saying "Goods must be returned in original as sent condition."

I fix laptops for a living and the old x55dc asus was a shockingly flimsy laptop, you could actually twist and bend it and the touchpads aren't great... although that was the old models, maybe they're better built now

Is the battery life only 4 hours? Was about to hit the button but that might be a deal breaker for me. What's the battery life on the Dell mentioned?

- hi there, have you got links for those 2 laptops you mentioned? cheers :) ...also... .. on that intel comparison site, why is the quad alot cheaper than the dual, when the hq procesor is alot faster than the U model, and better specs overall/more up to date etc.. ..weird no?

1. It's a dual core, don't get hung up on the fact that the branding is i7 as if it had been a quad core the price would be noticeably higher. 2. The reseller only offering a 3 month warranty of their own will keep the price down a bit. I doubt it makes much difference to the price but a bigger one to peace of mind maybe!

Yes I know but then my point is 'why not a quad-core i7'. It's just a weird mix of parts, it's good value for what it is but I reckon it'll draw less well informed buyers in based on the marketing names and numbers and in reality without an SSD it would be largely infuriating. And back to my other note - the Dell machines are better balanced, in fact Dell is normally very good at having all components complement each other and nothing outwardly mismatched. The short Asus warranty doesn't instil confidence - it may work fine for years but then why not give longer?

I have had this laptop for a year and it's good. The only problem I had was that it would restart randomly which drove me absolutely insane, eventually after much research I discovered there was a setting somewhere that would trigger an automatic restart if the device ever encountered a crash (or what it interpreted as a crash even if there wasn't one). Once I turned this off, all was right with the device.

Not him but... This isn't the best 960m deal ever but it's decent. The dell 7559 has gone for £700 (rarely) in the past and the lenovo y700 was £700 just two weeks ago (but only for a short time, about 5 hours, before selling out/ price going up). You have to be smart and use quidco, online codes, asking for lower prices and constantly looking. If you're like me and 960m isn't necessary right now/want to wait for 10xx gpus, I just bought a second hand i5 950m for £430+ accessories+8 month warranty which will easily keep me going until the 1050 laptops cost around £700. I'm lucky in the fact very few modern titles interest me and I can sell this to my parents who need a laptop in the near future anyway. Good luck with your search.

 Very likely no on both.

I looked into them and they have bad customer service and charge to get it fixed along with sending it to then fees. It's an option but I personally do not trust the product or the company much. If you do, you can get great deals on eBay for them at grade A for £600.

"The product is new in the box, but has been repacked into Lenovo non-original packaging. " Mine arrives today so will let you all know.

I have this laptop just over 14 months now. Specs wise its good, FHD, 1TB HDD and 8GB RAM. Basically its future proof. The big let down is the screen, it really is crap. When switching from dark to white it takes a few second for the backlight to catch up and thus illuminates on a delay. There is some ghosting, though I suppose not to the extent which people would notice. Boots up fast as well, only draw back is wifi is not dualband or AC, you will need to find yourself a dongle for that. I have noticed after a period of time the USB ports do tend to become a bit intermittent when recognising an attached device, in some instances it does it straight away, in others can take 3-6 mins. The gfx card isn't anything to write home about, its basic thats all. Its a good laptop despite its flaws, I just don't think its worth £379.99 refurbished, there are other laptops out there with similar specs for the same price.

You need to bear in mind that SFV REQUIRES 60fps otherwise you are paying in slow motion.

The screen problem will be the same on Z50. This is a Refurbished for cheaper price, do not go for it if you already dislike the screen.

I had a good experience and would not hesitate to use them again.

HP Probook and Elitebook are good too. So do not dismiss HP completely. HP Probook since Christmas has been below or around £300.

I think Thinkpad is good too. But Lenovo Z50 is not a good model. Lenovo B, G, Z series are all budget, not good. There are good quality business laptop for around £300, with i5, or i3 with SSD. Although not FHD, but Z50 FHD is quite bad, do not think it's FHD screen is worth much extra. Go for those business laptop on overall quality, not Lenovo budget models.

Great spec in all fairness. You can't really find a true quad core laptop i7 for less than £700 with a dedicated gfx and fullHD screen.

This isn't a UK model, it's a US import. The same laptop with a 750GB drive sells over there for $699 (no tax if you live in a state where MicroCenter don't have a warehouse). That equates to about £450 (new) as opposed to £500 refurbished.
