Hey guys, first post but I grabbed a bargain before so thought I’d share it. I know entry level 3D printers get a lot of schtick, but for this price I thought it was a great buy for a Christmas gift.

Using the code ‘PARTYTIME’ on eBay currently gets you 20% off, making it the cheapest I’ve seen this particular model. And it’s from eBuyer which I’ve had great customer service with in the past.

Cheers!

Explore 3D Printing
The XYZ Da Vinci Junior is a great way for youngsters, adults and experimental designers alike to experience the wonders of 3D printing. The ideal size for mounting on a desktop in the bedroom, classroom or office it is probably the best value, and most affordable, 3D printer on the market.

Simple to set up, easy to use
For novice users 3D printers can be difficult to calibrate and set up. However, the Da Vinci Junior is designed to be used more or less straight out of the box. As it doesn’t need to be calibrated it is as easy to set up as a normal inkjet printer.
The printing process is straightforward and the user can print directly from a computer using the bundled software and a USB connection.
Alternatively, pop in an SD card and set up the print using the touch display on the front of the machine.

How it prints
The XYZ Da Vinci Junior uses a process known as Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF). Basically the plastic material used to print, or build, an object is loaded onto a spool which is then fed via a filament to the printing plate. The object is printed using layer upon layer of the material which hardens and sets almost immediately.

The printer can be set to one of four resolutions, ranging from 100 to 400 microns. Basically, the higher the micron setting the faster the object is printed as the resolution, or quality, is lower.

Yep, just watched a quick review and the spool has an NFC chip in. So it's proprietary all the way. Sadly.

I take it you mean filament if so I think yes.

Maybe a way to circumvent here instructables.com/id/…Jr/

Sorry but I think theis deal is cold

Your tied to expensive filament (going rate seems to be £25 per kg compared to £10 for normal on ebay ) and that range is going to be limited in color and materials.

I looked into programming my own chips and could have sworn there was an app someone made to program them relatively easily, I could be wrong though as it was a while ago.

I just ended up buying a bulk load of pre-programmed chips off ebay a year or so ago – think I paid £10 for 15 chips and they work fine. If you don’t already have one they’re excellent little printers, a bit limited compared to newer open frame types but they’re well made and ours has been trouble free.
