Great price for new copy.

The glitz, glamour, and unbridled decadence of the 80s are back in Yakuza 0. A prequel to the long-running series set in Japan's criminal underworld, this entry introduces mainstay protagonist Kazuma Kiryu and series regular Goro Majima as they fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka in their climb through the yakuza ranks. Along the way, players can interact with all the vices 1988's Japan had to offer: from discos and hostess clubs to classic SEGA arcades, there are tons of distractions to pursue in the richly detailed, neon-lit world. At its heart, Yakuza 0 is a classic 3D brawler, where players roaming the streets of Tokyo or Osaka will encounter all manners of goons, thugs, hoodlums, and lowlifes to beat up. Featuring an engaging combat system allowing players to switch between three different fighting styles instantaneously, Yakuza 0 gives players fluid, free-flowing fights that are easily learned and a joy to master. Take combat up a notch by using environmental objects such as bicycles, sign posts, and car doors for bone-crunching combos and savage take-downs.

  • A Hard Boiled Crime Drama: The story follows Kazuma Kiryu as a junior yakuza member who finds himself in a world of trouble when a simple debt collection goes wrong and his mark winds up murdered.
  • Fight Like Hell: Kiryu and Majima can each switch between three brutal hand-to-hand combat styles on the fly to create the most fluid beatdowns ever experienced in a Yakuza game.
  • Kiryu and Majima will find themselves interacting with many of the colorful denizens of Tokyo and Osaka in some of the most absurdly comedic and heartwarming tales from the red light district.
  • Languages: Enjoy the original Japanese voices and new English text.

The story in this game was amazingly well written even if it's a bit over-the-top in combat sequences (nothing new for returning Yakuza fans), the characters invoked a lot of emotions especially in the closing chapters. My personal GOTY closely tied with HZD which gave a similar sense of emptiness after everything was done and dusted - can't wait for Yakuza 6 to come out soon enough.

I have never played any Yakuza game, and I am on the fence. Any gameplay video I have watched seems to be cutscene after cutscene, is there much game to it?

There are plenty of cutscenes but there is a ton of game to it with the main story and lots of side missions. Just get it it’s easily the game of the year for me with one of the best storylines in any game I’ve ever played.
Playing this now for the first time.. so addicted
I'm intrigued, loved sleeping dogs, would I like this?

Thanks for your input. I will probably end up getting it once I have finsihed Assassin's Creed.

They're not really that similar in gameplay terms. The Yakuza games are "tighter" experiences and more focused on story with less frequent, but better combat, rather than the standard open world-style gameplay. It's a fantastic series though, and in atmosphere terms they have some common ground (though Yakuza is a slower burn). Worth giving it a try IMO.

Cheers, will give it at go once I've played some other titles in my backlog
This is brilliant, combat is amazing, game is hilarious.
This was my first Yakuza game and I absolutely loved it. Kiwami was a bit of a let down since it's about 60% the size of Zero with 70% of recycled content but I still liked that as well, can't wait for Kiwami 2 (going to be a long wait)

This is my game of the year, so much better than Horizon overated dawn and all the crap that came out on the 2nd half on the year
Yakuza 0 is brilliant. Easily my favourite game of the year (although i haven't played mario odysey, zelda, or persona 5 yet). There are very few games where I am so engrossed with the story that I actually wished there were more cutscenes!

There is so much good content in it too. Many of the side missions are amusing and very varied. I actually read all the dialogue! The two main characters also have their own side businesses that you find yourself investing time in to grow.

The storyline may be their main focus, but it's clear the developers have spent a lot of effort on the other content in the game. Even though it's gotten great reviews, it's an underrated game in the general gaming population.
The most underrated game of the year award 2017 should go to this game. Brilliant fun and you’ll be sad when it comes to an end!

Roll on Yakuza 6
I already have this on digital. I wanted a physical copy too, but my damn card won't go through for whatever reason. Shame they don't accept Paypal.

To be fair, whatever else you've got going on at the moment is inferior. Getting married? Waiting on the birth of your firstborn? Wrong! Kiryu is better.

Hi, fwiw it's not something anyone would want to have to deal with. Great game or not it'll have to wait. But thanks for the recommendation.
